Redskins Recon 2017: Week 6 vs. San Francisco 49ers
AuthorRedskins Recon

San Fran. Frisco. The Golden City. Baghdad by the Bay. The Paris of the West. Call San Francisco whatever you want, but with their 49ers winless so far in 2017, there's not a lot of hope in Mudville these days.
While not optimistic about the ‘now', some 49ers fans have hope for the future…
I genuinely think that we're going to win this game. The return of Foster (even in limited snaps capacity) will give this D a second wind, and the O will do just enough to come out victorious. I'm all in for a W this week.
Surprisingly, I saw almost no references to Pierre Garcon's return to DC – as I expected some fans to seize on the potential of Garcon having a big ‘revenge' game. As previously mentioned, the ‘returning player factor' is almost always overhyped and rarely ends up being a significant factor in NFL game outcomes.
Blatant homerism is usually found with ease on NFL fan forums. But the despair and negativity is rampant in San Francisco. Instead, we found a ton of snarky pessimism, doom, and gloom…
We couldn't take advantage of the 31st ranked defense what makes u think we would fair better vs a more talented team like Washington? 0-6 coming soon.
Ummmmmmmmmm Saw my dumpster fire team yesterday in person and this won't be very close. Prob 30-13ish. Team is devoid of talent everywhere. Frank said it best after the game. "Trent messed this team up" dline was getting gashed all game on the ground.
Lol omfg we are going to get killed. They have speed on O. D is a lil banned up but they have a QB too. Hopefully they rest Norman up.
Looking like a 1-2 win year!!! Lol. Hey just think about this. Imagine if we had a legit QB, then we would win these games.
Skins O-Line will pose a big mismatch for our D-Line. The Hogs 2.0 will eat our boys up. I wouldn't expect to see much of a pass rush this week. Not like we've really had one but just don't expect much this week.
This guy sounds optimistic, but in a single paragraph moves from hopefulness to dire prediction.

The Redskins could be looking past the Niners and their pitiful record to their next game against the Iggles. Then I thought it's past the time for the Redskins to be looking past any team. They have to keep winning games to stay in the hunt for a playoffs berth. They're gonna beat the Niners like a red headed step child.
Although 49ers fans didn't seem to predict a big day by Pierre Garcon in their favor, they were significantly worried that Vernon Davis would burn them bigtime in his return to San Francisco.
Amidst the noise and hysteria of every fan forum, if you look hard enough, you can find traces of reason and smarts.

I have been a fan of the 49ers for about 40 years but they are a team in disarray. Possibly because of their location or because of their clueless owners they have let silicon valley types who never played the game make major decisions for them. We now have zero impact players, an inexperienced coach whose offense just went 20 plus possessions without a touchdown on what looks to me like a very poorly coached team that commits a lot of penalties. Washington will win easily. 1-15 this year 3-13 the next then time for a real coach not an inexperienced and way over rated semi-celebrity to 49er fans because of his last name.
As much as I want this win, Redskins would have to really not take us seriously and come out unprepared. I think it could get ugly in a hurry against them on the road. But I think we keep it from being too bad again. Not one score though.
After four straight close games, it'll be interesting to see how the Niners come out playing and how they do the entire game vs. a pretty good Redskins team when playing at home. In addition to whether or not Foster, Reid, and Juice play, I'll be interested in the following:
-Can Hoyer play a more consistent, quality game for 4 Qtrs.?
-Will Hyde have a better all-around game?
-How will the OL do against a good Redskins DL?
-Will the O sustain more drives to help keep the D off the field?
-Can the DL/pass rush get consistent pressure on Cousins?
-What adjustments will be made to do a better job of covering the RB out of the backfield (Chris Thompson is tough to deal with - hello R. Foster?)
-Will the secondary be more consistent?
-Will the D do a better job on 3rd Down to keep conversions down?
-Can the team cut way down on the penalties?
-If it's a close game, can the team find a way to get the win?
But the best part of Redskins Recon is the comedic relief one inevitably finds, sometimes driven by outlandish homerism, sometimes by immense pain and suffering…

We should be competitive for the first 20 seconds.
One poster got in the way back machine, pinning his hopes on a 1996 trip to Fed Ex Field…Pssst… that won't be Gus Frerotte under center on Sunday, or Steve Young and Jerry Rice leading the way for San Fran…
Cousins is going to beat us into the turf. Then when he's done, he's going to stand in the middle of the field and resurrect Christ. Christ will then gather his apostles and they will then play us, beating us into the turf again.
‘Ninerpunk' summed up the feelings of most 49ers fans so far in 2017 with this gem…

It feels like somebody took my heart and dropped it into a bucket of boiling tears, & at the same time, somebody else is hitting my soul in the crotch with a frozen sledgehammer, & then a third guy walks in and starts punching me in the grief bone.
So there you have it, a sneak peak from enemy territory. It's safe to say cocky predictions of a resounding 49ers win on Sunday are in decidedly short supply. I do think this week's game has all the makings of a trap game. Skins favored by double digits at home, coming off a bye week, against an opponent that's viewed as one of the worst teams in the league. Add in former besmirched OC, out to avenge his poor wronged father, and stick it to the owner who ran them both out of town. It's the perfect recipe for a shocking ‘Any Given Sunday' Redskins defeat.
But somehow, the 2017 season and this Redskins team feel different.
It may not be a blow out, dominant win. But my money is on Cousins, Gruden, and the Redskins taking care of business this week. With the surging Eagles, and the still dangerous Cowboys, this is a must win game.
