Not the End Yet!

That was like a bad romantic comedy last night. Our hero gets close, but never actually ends up getting the girl. Each time he gets closer, the audience roots for him that much harder, only to see the girl continue to step on his throat and crush him.

OK, that part seems like a creepy romantic comedy, or more like Fatal Attraction or something.

Still, didn't you feel sorry for the Redskins last night? They did not give up, kept trying, made an impressive fourth quarter stop with the game on the line, and finally... just couldn't finish.

Wait a minute. That's not how the script goes. Harry gets Sally at the end, right? Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan hook up (twice), Bridget Jones gets Mark Darcy, ... uh, I mean, I think that's what happens. That's what my wife says, anyway.

A better analogy would be that Bruce Willis kills The Sheriff of Nottingham, the creepy yoga guy, the Sheriff's brother, AND the dude from Justified. Yeah. Ummm, let's just go with my wife taking control of the blog for the previous paragraph, OK?

Anyway, we were supposed to win. Could have been at the last second, McNabb hitting a streaking Galloway down the sidelines. Could have been some other way. But the game was NOT supposed to end with a crazy good interception made by a Colts' DB.

(I mean seriously, between that catch and Pierre Garcon's circus catch, gimme a break - was Carlos taking notes on which brand of stickem to use?)

So we didn't win. All right then, what can we take away from this?

Uhhh... Peyton Manning is good? I have to confess, as a football fan, it was a joy to watch him conduct that offense last night. He had our defense more turned around than ARE on a punt return. And still, we had a shot.

Look at the rest of the QBs we face coming up: Cutler, Shawn Hill/Matthew Stafford, Vick/Kolb, Vince Young, Favre, Eli Manning, Josh Freeman, Romo, Garrard, Eli. Anyone scare you like Peyton does? Peyton played great, and we still almost won.

I know, coulda, shoulda, woulda. Words of losers.

Sigh.

Coulda been ours. Coulda been a lot worse. Anyone willing to say out loud at the beginning of the year that we would split with Green Bay and Indy, go see a shrink, will ya.

The next two games are crucial. We can build on this loss, but not if we do what we did the last time we had a "moral loss".

We need to keep pounding Torain, who looks like the real deal, minus a couple of very correctable mistakes. I like that we are leading the league in plays of 50+ yards. That needs to continue as well. And is it just me, or do you sit up just a little bit when the other team kicks to Banks? The kid is exciting, and he will break one soon.

So who knows. Maybe Game 6 of a sixteen game season isn't the whole movie. Maybe this is one example where we get knocked down, only to get the girl later?

"I don't think you're an idiot at all. I mean, there are elements of the ridiculous about you. Your mother's pretty interesting. And you really are an appallingly bad public speaker. And, um, you tend to let whatever's in your head come out of your mouth without much consideration of the consequences... But the thing is, um, what I'm trying to say, very inarticulately, is that, um, in fact, perhaps despite appearances, I like you, very much. Just as you are. "
