Random NFL Thoughts

who do we have as a LT that is better?

I am being genuine in asking.

You know we have a new LT - and no one knows how good he will be but there’s every reason to believe he’ll be a very good one. Villanueva will be 33 at the start of this season. I don't get the gripe to be honest.

97 consecutive starts
started all 16 games last year
2 time pro bowler
proven at the LT side.

He’s good, but we’re a rebuilding team. I guess I just am not following why drafting a twenty-something stud OT and paying him a rookie salary for 4 years is anything but a good thing?

I think Meyer's just throwing Tebow a bone. Man hasn't been on an NFL field in like six years, and has never played TE. He's Sammis Reyes, only way older, slower, and non-Adonis-like.

The returning Jags players must be rolling their eyes. Gonna be a "brief" media circus and then Tebow will once again fade back into semi-obscurity.

I give Tebow a chance, albeit a small one, to catch on. He’s a better athlete than he gets credit for being because all folks remember is his inability to throw a pass with a spiral. But he is shifty and can move. Will be interesting to watch. Agree this is likely Meyers doing him a solid.

Perhaps. But you know any and all other actual TE's on the roster now, or hopeful of landing a spot, are going to be salivating at the chance of competing with a 34-year-old converted QB who hasn't suited up since 2012. :)

Methinks Mr. Tebow is branding ...

He is a great dude and a hell of a motivator. Those seasons in FL and in Denver were not a fluke.

I am not sure why people don't like him. He doesn't have on field issues, he doesn't curse, doesn't drink, and is always being positive. He never says he is the best or acts like a jerk. He goes out and tries his hardest at everything he does.

The hate that man gets is baffling to me.

For the record, I don't hate the man. I just don't think this is a serious football move, either by the Jags or Tebow. I think it's a solid from Meyer for a favorite son, and a great publicity opportunity for Tebow.

Be a great story if I'm wrong though, and he ends up making the team and contributing.

People always want to see the worst in anyone in my experience MikefromOH, even when there may be no ‘there’ there. I’m not a Christian, nor am I greatly impressed with the virtuosity of many who claim they are. But by all accounts, Tebow is genuinely a caring, unselfish, generous guy. Perhaps not above self-promotion, but a nice guy. Nothing folks like better than digging up dirt or heaping scorn and skepticism on someone who is perceived that way.

I think Mark is right that this will probably end like Tebow’s other efforts to make pro sports a career. He won’t embarrass himself but probably won’t prove to have enough raw talent to make it work. But I don’t see any reason to root against the guy.

Mark, I didn't mean you. I meant the media and just in general.

I agree with your analysis. He is a really good athlete, but he isn't great in any one sport. I applaud him for even getting the shot, but he isn't going to step on the field and demand double coverage.

If Tebow is willing to play special teams, he'll be on the roster.

The Jags have nothing to lose seeing if he can be a Taysom Hill clone.

Tebow "in the room" is what matters, and being a veteran presence; teaching the players the ropes of preparation mentally and physically. I think he's the oldest on the roster?

I can't wait for his Gridiron Heights parody....immortalization.....

I liked that article. It was pretty genuine.

Using one play where Sanchez throws the ball to a guy who has never played TE isn't really telling of his skills, IMO.

I am not really sure why he is there. I know he is a heck of an athlete and always in amazing shape. But, I am not sure what he brings to the table.

RG3 has offers from Fox Sports and ESPN to become an analyst and commentator when he decides to stop being a backup per NY Post
