2021 Roster Updates

Kamren Curl was quite a find in 2020 for the team as a seventh round pick. He looks to be a starter here at a bargain price (at least for the next 2 years).

But the other safeties, Landon Collins and DeShazor Everett, both ended last year on IR, the former with a very serious injury. Right now, we don't know if he is going to be 100% ready to go to be the player he used to be.

So, if I were the GM I would be looking for depth at safety. But we can't afford to pay a guy $12M.

I said on Twitter, if we get 1 legit starter at a position of need out of free agency, I'll be happy.

This makes 3. So.... I'm pretty thrilled.

This is a very strong WR free agency class. We had stiff competition for him - I'm sure.

So what's the next FA shoe to drop - a linebacker maybe?

This ain’t your grandfather’s , father’s, third-uncle from your mother’s side, or your youngest child’s Redskins.

FS. Trey Boston officially came available today

McLaurin, Samuel, Harmon, Sims - that is a pretty good receiving corps...

While I tend to agree, my one concern is how much we will be able to rely on Harmon coming off a major injury. I really liked him in his rookie year and think he can be a solid contributor to this offense, provided he can pick up from where he left off in his rookie year. That said, he will have a lot to prove to this coaching staff, for whom he has yet to play a game for. I am curious to see if they try to still make a move in free agency here with a cheaper guy to push Harmon, or if they use the draft to add competition for him.

Keep in mind CH - he tore his ACL in July of last year. He'll have had 14 months to recover by the time we get to the regular season. That's plenty of time to be at full strength. He's already working out like a demon. He'll be fine wait and see.

That would be the dream scenario if Kelvin can contribute this coming year. It would really round out the top end of the receiving group nicely. How Rivera chooses to address the WR position the rest of the way via FA or the draft will be really telling of the type of faith Rivera has in Harmon, and some of the lower end guys at the position such as C. Sims.

...With the signing of Samuel, I can't help but think how nice it would have been had Gandy Golden shown anything this past year. Had he given you a glimpse of hope in his rookie year, you combine that with a promising Harmon coming back into the rotation, and you arguably could have put WR to bed for the rest of the offseason. The focus could have then solely shifted to meeting other needs like LB, OL, S, etc.

For me the WR approach the rest of the way in the offseason will be a fascinating story to watch. Do they think they now have enough?

Given how often they throw to the RBs and TE in this offense, possible the core is set. Also possible they grab someone else or more likely, draft a guy as this is supposed to be a very deep WR class...

In case folks don't know, McLaurin and Samuel were teammates at Ohio State. Wonder if that played a part.

I also find it interesting that in a year where many, including me, were predicting that guys would be looking for one-year deals because of the cap reduction, Washington has signed all their FAs so far to 3-year deals.

When Terry and Samuels were freshmen, lying awake at night discussing playing together in the NFL someday ... Ryan Fitzpatrick was a 10-year veteran getting ready to play for his fifth team.

Just facts. Lol.
