I'd rather have the aqua eagle then this, bigmike is in his Al Iafrate jersey screaming down with "hydra" with these capt America jerseys

I was sure they were done after going down 3-0 in the 1st. What an effort!

Being out of market, I don't get to watch all the Caps games. But the last few that have been on TV have been very disappointing. They showed a good fight to comeback against NJ, but really they were just the more talented team and should have won. The game last night against the Penguins, the Penguins just looked like a much better team. I felt like the Caps were lucky to get a point. I don't know what is going on with the team, but outside of a few players, the guys just don't look like they want to play. When they looked like this last year, everyone thought it was the coach. Well, they got rid of him and they still have games they look disinterested. You look at their record and they aren't doing poorly. It's just they aren't showing much fire so far from what I have seen.

I think we're seeing a product of a weird offseason, a team missing 6 high caliber starters over the course of a month, an 'older' roster, a new coaching staff, a rookie goaltender, and still being 2 points behind the first place Bruins.

I have a feeling that we're gonna get on a heater here shortly.

I think Ovechkin was really missing his family. They are back now and he is on fire. The team is on a mission right now too. They are a lot more fun to watch now than they were a month ago.

I wonder if they're pissed that Willy got suspended so they doin the 'win one for the boys' type mentality. You hope they want to win always, but being angry at the safety commitee....

That definitely crossed my mind as well. I do think that fired up the team collectively.

one of these days i'm going to go back and actually track how the team has done this year when down 'men' We've had 4 of our top players on covid, Wilson missing time, Schultz taking a puck to the face... and we're in 1st place. This team is DEEP. We probably haven't had our complete lines together for more than about 8 games this season...

The Caps have faced the most adversity in the division in terms of injuries starting with Lundqvist in the offseason and with the COVID suspensions of 4 very important players for week(s). You lose your top scorer and top goaltender and most teams are close to being done. And yet the team held out and went 6-0-4 during that rough early stretch with AHL players in and out of the lineup and 7-0 with Wilson out of the lineup.

Most importantly the defense has gotten a lot better from the start of the season. With 3 or 4 new players on D and a new system for the forwards it was going to take time. I think Laviolette seeing the early adversity made the right decision in putting the accent on strictly winning games and not criticizing the players for a 5-4 victory where there were turnovers and poor play for stretches. A win was a win, at least until the roster started to regain its form.

A coach like Mike Babcock would have alienated the entire team with tirades early in the year and lost guys. You have to know WHEN to push the button.

NOW is the time, and now is when Laviolette is rewarding players like Sheary and Sprong, who produce, and is moving at least in part away from players like Richard Panik who has never been the player the team thought it was getting in free agency in 2020.

Injuries are key. This team has more depth than many but the lack of a center the team can activate from the taxi squad or call up that can play in the NHL for a stretch of games is a real achilles heel. It's obvious now with Lars Eller out and TJ Oshie having to play out of position at 34.

If McClelland can work some magic and come up with a trade that nets a spot center for the balance of this season that would set the club up well for an extended run. I am sure he is looking around the NHL for veteran centers on the back end of their contracts or one year deals that will become available.

Ovi hitting a groove doesn’t hurt either.

Alright, game 2 tonight against Boston, Anderson saved the day (pun intended) in game 1. I'm curious to see who we start in goal and if we can win without Ovi scoring we could be deadly if he gets rolling. Lotta hits early on in game 1, it'll be interesting to see if that continues.
