Washington Football Team Launches Website to
Bring Fans Insider Access as the Franchise Evolves

Interactive online portal will be updated daily as the season begins and will allow
fans of the burgundy and gold to learn of the team’s path forward in real-time

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.
– The Washington Football Team today rolled out a fan engagement site that will offer a comprehensive and ongoing view into the organization’s rebrand efforts. The immersive hub is designed to bring fans along for the ride and provides a platform for their voices to be heard as the franchise ushers in a new era.

Fans visiting www.washingtonjourney.com will find interviews and exclusive content to share via their own social media channels, including images, wallpaper downloads, videos, and more. Additionally, the site will feature official team announcements pertaining to the branding update, unique behind-the-scenes access to the work-in-progress blueprints, and several ways for fans to weigh in on what the organization hopes will be a collaborative and inclusive process.

“We have one of the most passionate fan bases in sports. The goal of WashingtonJourney.com is to bring them in virtually and not only give those fans an in-depth look at the efforts and directions we’re going in, but to involve them in this evolution,” said Marcus Stephenson, Vice President, Digital Marketing and Programming for the Washington Football Team. “We are just at the beginning stages of this adventure and a transparent, participatory process will ensure that we build an identity our entire community will be proud of.”

As the season nears, the hub will be updated daily with fresh content and fans will have the opportunity to help mold the franchise of the future as the team considers new names, logos and uniforms. Fans can also expect to see – and interact with – opinions and insights from some of the franchise’s most prominent alumni and celebrity influencers, in addition to the current roster of players.

That website leaves much to be desired, then again by trying to wipe away history they haven't got much to work with

I like the effort. It's easy to be negative and pissy, but the reality is that we are not going back. Julie Donaldson is working like mad to make all of these changes and while nothing is perfect, the efforts are top-notch.

It will take time for many fans to come around, but the best way to make changes is to go at full speed and be super diligent about it.

I think they've made some nice hires in terms of quality people who have some integrity and class and who will try and do things the right way. But they have stumbled some - because they aren't fans and seem awkwardly unaware of how raw, angry, and/or disappointed many fans still are and will be about the name change. The breathless release of video showing them scrubbing Redskins imagery and symbology wasn't 'exciting' for fans. It was sad and regrettable and even traumatizing for some. The fact that they had zero clue that would be the case is a problem. Pretty stupid if I'm being harsh.

BB is right that many if not most fans will 'get over it' with time. But not all of them will, and I think the number of fans for whom this is 'the last straw' is more significant than the team (and their new media leadership) realizes, and let's be honest, the fanbase was beleagured and shrinking even before all of this.

Fans have every right in the world to be negative and pissy - 'easy' has nothing to do with it. I don't think you're a typical fan BB. That's not criticism in any way, but not everyone has your 'there's no point in railing about things we can't change so let's be positive' temperament. It would be better if we/they did, but most don't.

Ultimately, you're right - it will be okay and most fans will adjust. But I think people will do it on their own timetable and in their own way.

I'll beg to differ on the site. Yeah, it's very simplistic, but this is the beginning of the process, it has to be a near blank slate. I think the site itself is very slick. And they put it up not only to communicate with fans, but to solicit ideas and input. I don't know how much more un-Redskins-like you could get than to operationalize that simple concept. So I find it encouraging.

I'm sorry, but the "Washington Football Team" was not established in 1932. The Boston Braves were. Then... a year later the Washington Redskins were created. That is the team I cheered for.

The WFT is neither. That team was created in 2020 because a sniveling POS owns the team and doesn't care about anything but himself.

They really should treat the WFT as an expansion team and just start all over. this here is just pissing off the old school fans.

I will never call them anything but the Redskins until the day I die. I dont care what anyone says or thinks about it. That is the name of the team, and that is what I will call them.

I feel like Coming to America "His name Cassius. His mama called him Cassius, I'm calling him Cassius".

I am curious to see how they treat Sean Taylor's locker? If they tinker with that then they will piss off a lot of younger fans.

Anything from now on is the WFT and all records start new. The team is no longer the Redskins.

Like Mike, I will remain loyal to the Redskins. The Redskins are still my team.

I'm getting a little tired of fans taking out their frustration with team changes on Julie Donaldson. Not directing that at Karl, but some of the stuff other fans are tweeting at Donaldson are way over the line imho. Fans can be real dicks. I'm not sure I understand what Karl is worried about in the first place... I can't imagine any scenario where the team, under any name or logo, is going to disrespect Sean Taylor.

I quite like the website. As a starting point to grow moving forward, I like it. I'm happy with the fact that the colour scheme is staying!

I'm interested by the fact that although Rivera has stated we have a QB competition for starter, Dwayne is the face of the website. Not someone on more solid ground so to speak, like McLaurin.

I think Rivera has previously stated that the job is Dwayne's to lose - acknowledging that when you draft a QB in the 1st round, that guy is going to be presumed to be the future starter until he proves he's not the best QB on the roster. I think Haskins is absolutely the planned starter. Only one of the other 2 drastically outshining him or him suffering through bad performances in multiple games could change that imho.

Solid graphics...horrible layout and design, it's just terrible and yet another site that is garbage mechanically because they are going for the mobile platform with reactive function ignored. Pure crap from this designers POV. I wonder if the designers actually used it on anything but a mobile platform, that would get sent back to the drawing board for a major overhaul before it was ever made public in my company. Yikes.

Doesn't matter much anyway...I have tried but have come no closer to "coming around" and am still staunchly in the NO category. Basically everything they've done has gotten a big fat flying of the bird in response from me. Oh and as for cutting the new folks some slack...nope not doing that either. They weren't forced to walk into this shit show, they chose to do so with open eyes. Deal with all of us that are pissed off beyond belief or don't associate with this crap show run by Snyder and you won't have anything to complain about. If that makes me a dick...so be it. Being a gentleman has gotten me two things so far...jack and squat.

The goal of WashingtonJourney.com is to bring them in virtually and not only give those fans an in-depth look at the efforts and directions we’re going in, but to involve them in this evolution

Most of us don't WANT to be involved in the process of dismantling something we have grown to love. It pisses most of us off! What a load of tone deaf crap.

We are just at the beginning stages of this adventure and a transparent, participatory process will ensure that we build an identity our entire community will be proud of

If you did that from the beginning we'd have had a new President long ago and the name never would have changed. Adventure my ass...newsflash you idiots: nothing you do will inspire pride in a franchise that caved to a loud, clueless few and literally took a crap all over your entire fanbase. The team became a joke on the field and now took the only remaining remnants of a once proud franchise and pissed it away out of misplaced fear and a desire to appease the PC/woke mob. The VERY least this so called team should do is ditch all remnants of the past and quit claiming establishment in 1932. You ditched all that history, you don't get to keep the parts that are convenient. And no Mike they AREN'T the Redskins anymore and never will be. They don't deserve your stubborn loyalty to that. Cooke and everyone who came before Snyder do but to me the very least they lost when they sold out was the privelege of continued claims to that history.

Don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining like they're trying to do with this. Sorry BB and Boone, nothing personal but the LAST thing I'm going to do is just bite the bullet, suck it up and act like all is hunky dory just because I can't do anything to change it. They completely F!#*ED us and the last thing I'm going to do is act like I'm OK with it to make some newbie's transition less unpleasant. Screw ALL of em including Donaldson and Wright.

It's up to every *former* Redskins fan to respond however they feel is appropriate. The last thing we would presume to do is to tell anyone how to feel. Do you really think the owners/staff here are immune to any/all of those sentiments? We are first and foremost fans, and that will always be the case. On the other hand, railing at the moon and anger doesn't really produce anything meaningfully positive.

It is what it is. Every fan will have to decide (and probably did awhile ago) how they feel, and what they will do. It's a personal thing and believe it or not, we respect everyone's right to arrive at whatever place they arrive at without judgement.

Yeah but I guess we shall see how the new website to get used to it now won't we?!
