The Bombshell

This whole thing is objectively disgusting. The statement from the team denies nothing so I really think we can all move on from the "WaPo might be lying" bullshit.

Besides which, everytime "named sources" are used by ANY news outlet, the story is immediately discounted and attacked. This story has names of people willing to come forward on the record so their voices can be heard. That's enough for me.

(and by the way, I stopped watching after the Ray Rice and concussions shit so my emotional ties to the Team are rooted solely in the past - the distant past; with a lot of therapy (read: drinking) I've been able to pretend like my Redskins functionally stopped existing around the time I was in High School and that's worked out nicely for me)

Being a dad is pretty awesome. Being a dad of three girls is overwhelming, wonderful, scary and the best thing that has happened to me in my life. I remember the day that I realized my oldest was being sexualized by someone and I was filled with fury. I'm mature enough to realize she is a sexual being but that is a PART of who she is and she was being reduced to that alone.

Her intelligence, her acerbic wit, her kindness and empathy and a whole lot more was eliminated in the two seconds it took for some punk to look at her and drool about her boobs.

His loss.

I couldn't be more proud of her. She dropped out of college because she was sexually assaulted and instead of coming home, stayed in that city and worked 3-4 jobs, got her own place, and is wrapping up Community College now. She's a fucking rock star.

While she waits tables I know she gets her ass grabbed by customers, she's talked about the sexual comments that demean that she smiles and walks away from because she needs the tips. It infuriates me when she tells me these stories because SHE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A SEXUAL OBJECT.

And yet she feels reduced to that.

Reading Special K's posts broke my heart. Thinking about my daughter's experiences breaks my heart. Add all of that to the rage I feel when I read this story: burn it all down. And yes, FS, ALL - the entire NFL, the entire patriarchy, everything must go.

Our daughters and wives deserve so much better than this bullshit. So much better.

Yeah, I don't think anyone just believes blindly that it happened. everyone remembers a story or had an incident near and dear to them that has proven time and again to wait for all facts regardless of what is happening.

but, you gotta be respectful when talking about it. you never know when you run in to a James or Eric with their personal stories and offend them. Or worse, take them back to that moment it happened and it kicks something off they were past.

the reason I posted a thread titled " did I miss something" is simple, the stuff reported by wapo is not even remotely " earth shattering" its barely even surprising.

flirting with coworkers and hitting on coworkers happens all the time, and when its a person with direct authority over you hitting on you, yes that is sexual harassment but unless it was direct pressure to have sex, its harder to feel like this is " earth shattering" from the sound of it, santos merely asked women if they were romatically attracted to him, which sounds like adude just trying to outkick his coverage. a broadcaster trying to use his celebrity to sleep with women? omg that never happens!

the costa rica stuff? the Dallass cowpies literally hired cheerleaders who couldnt dance as long as the management could sleep with them. so being told to shake your boobs for a bunch of old rich guys? are we really that naive?

as for the work environment, I am pretty certain Sarge ( I think it was sarge) whose mother worked there, told us all it was unpleasant under dan. we saw how he treated people we all already knew that.

yeah I get it, sexual harassment is bad, but I thought this was gonna be some massive scandal and its not. this is not even worth talking about except to fire some idiots, and I am saying this as someone who would love it if snyder sold the team.

Santos merely asking women if they were attracted to them. That isn't what work is for. Work is for working and a place to act professional.

"OMG that never happens" - that makes it alright all of a sudden?

the cowbums did it, too - that doesn't make it right. if anything, it makes it even worse because you see it and know it is wrong yet you do it anyways.

what an absolute shame it is when people try to downplay something as serious and gross as sexual harassment. trying to define different levels or acting like its normal because it is not a big deal in your eyes is just fucking weird.

and seeing how the entire woke mob is manufacturing outrage and pretending like this was all a massive horrific scandal (actual words being used) and seeing how you guys are reacting only makes me think that this is going way too far.

Neither Sarge nor Al were wrong in what they said but you guys got emotional because you have been whipped into a Frenzy. FFS Sarge has been the most anti snyder guy on this forum and even he was saying that this all just seems too trumped up. Al was saying the same thing. I get it that emotions are running high, but acting like autocrats and saying " only my opinion matters" is exactly why the name is changing and its why the internet has ceased being civil almost entirely.

yes I am aware, I am also aware that it happens in every workplace. people are people.

never said it made it right, said it was pretty much happening everywhere

the cowbums actually prostituted their cheerleaders, slightly worse than what happened here.

you sound like a guy who doesnt get how damaging #metoo was to society in general

"woke mob"

that tells me all I need to know about your thoughts here.

Please...tell me more about "how I sound". I could use a good laugh at your expense.

Ryman, this is the kind of attitude that allows it to continue. It is a massive scandal. It should NOT be happening and we should be as outraged and horrified that is STILL happening as we would be if we discovered the team had been throwing games, buying refs, buying opposing players, or threatening employees with violence.

The problem is these actions aren't seen as a scandal and the need to be. They have to be.

Go on youtube, go on facebook, people are literally acting as if this is the worst scandal to ever hit the NFL and as if the redskins are the most toxic. ffs irvin tried to murder a teammate, the pies fronto office treated their cheerleaders like a personal harem, anyone with friends who play in the league knows what the environment is like on almost every team but you guys are buying into the manufactured outrage, its ridiculous. was it bad? yes, was it earth shattering bad? no

you're justifying this by saying that because its happened before it shouldn't be a big deal now.

you really don't see the issue with that?

one of the quotes was that a woman was told to wear high heels and tight dresses. are you seriously telling me that a woman hired on the basis of her looks is being sexually harassed when told to maximise her looks? why even include that quote?

santos if the quotes are real didnt even pressure women to have sex, he literally just asked them if they liked him romantically, that sounds more like a nerd trying to outkick his coverage than flat out sexual harassment.

I get it, we are all supposed to be outraged, I do think the whole culture in that office is toxic af but we already knew that

btw we have known for years that the skins front office is toxic, we know its a terrible workplace, Sarge gave us an inside look into it. so acting like this is all "news" is just really odd to me. but then I just assumed you all paid attention and knew this stuff was pretty much par for the course on most teams

If we were ‘autocrats’ we’d just toss you for challenging our judgment.

We rarely moderate much less toss someone. When we do it’s for good reason. That’s all anyone needs to know.

No Ryman, you don't get it and this post proves it.

No one should be told how to dress to maximize their looks in a business environment. Period. Especially not by an exec who is viewed by those below as having power over whether they continue to work there. There is an implied threat and it is unprofessional at the very best.

Sure Santos only asked a couple of questions but do you really think for one minute that the person on the receiving end of those questions didn't fear for their team access, and hence their ability to do their job if the answer to those questions didn't make Santos happy?

It's power, man.

On the surface, everything looks innocent but if you talk to any woman who has held a corporate job they will tell you it is anything but innocent and all too often they pay a price professionally for not playing along with this shit. If you continue to shrug it off as you are, effectively saying "boys will be boys", you are contributing to the continuance of this culture.

well I disagree with tossing two members who have been here a long time and contributed a lot. you own the site, you spend your personal time moderating, but I think you allowed your emotions to get the best of you, thats human, I do it too. anyway I said my piece, this entire thing sounds like nonsense to me, overblown nonsense. should some people have gotten fired? yes, is this "earthshattering world changing scandal" not even remotely. but as much as I want Snyder gone, I don't like this.

when someone is hired because of their looks they know it. when I was hired to do high visibility security, they wanted me to wear suits designed to make me look larger and more intimidating, they even paid for me to get suits tailored for it. that is not much different than hiring a woman for a position and telling her to wear high heels and tight dresses.

I already said that the power dynamic was problematic, yet if santos was very attractive we probably wouldnt be having this conversation, good looking dude hits on woman= no problem. nerdy dude hits on woman= creepy.

I never hit on women at work in 20 years of working in telecom and security, but I did get hit on a few times and yes it was awkward when someone higher up the food chain hit on me and I wasnt interested.

my point is not that this stuff isnt a problem, its that some people are acting as if this is all new and specific to the skins, its being rather selective

Snyder has been in denial for years.

He steps to the podium and talks about the need for change and how Ron Rivera is an upright guy and someone that will bring integrity to the job, etc.

Somehow he sidesteps the fact he bears responsibility for hiring guys like Bruce and Jay that helped to create the toxic environment.

Then you add in Snyder’s own bullying and demeaning tactics with employees and you arrive at where we are.

But Snyder seems to think all those empty seats and losing seasons are because others screwed up.

You know Ryman, I really don’t have a problem with you expressing that. I try to be reasonable and fair. Maybe I’m not always. But some things, as both Sarge and Al would be the first to say, are not tolerable or acceptable. You don’t know all the facts nor do you need to. So I’ll leave it at that.
