The Legend
This whole thing is objectively disgusting. The statement from the team denies nothing so I really think we can all move on from the "WaPo might be lying" bullshit.
Besides which, everytime "named sources" are used by ANY news outlet, the story is immediately discounted and attacked. This story has names of people willing to come forward on the record so their voices can be heard. That's enough for me.
(and by the way, I stopped watching after the Ray Rice and concussions shit so my emotional ties to the Team are rooted solely in the past - the distant past; with a lot of therapy (read: drinking) I've been able to pretend like my Redskins functionally stopped existing around the time I was in High School and that's worked out nicely for me)
Being a dad is pretty awesome. Being a dad of three girls is overwhelming, wonderful, scary and the best thing that has happened to me in my life. I remember the day that I realized my oldest was being sexualized by someone and I was filled with fury. I'm mature enough to realize she is a sexual being but that is a PART of who she is and she was being reduced to that alone.
Her intelligence, her acerbic wit, her kindness and empathy and a whole lot more was eliminated in the two seconds it took for some punk to look at her and drool about her boobs.
His loss.
I couldn't be more proud of her. She dropped out of college because she was sexually assaulted and instead of coming home, stayed in that city and worked 3-4 jobs, got her own place, and is wrapping up Community College now. She's a fucking rock star.
While she waits tables I know she gets her ass grabbed by customers, she's talked about the sexual comments that demean that she smiles and walks away from because she needs the tips. It infuriates me when she tells me these stories because SHE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A SEXUAL OBJECT.
And yet she feels reduced to that.
Reading Special K's posts broke my heart. Thinking about my daughter's experiences breaks my heart. Add all of that to the rage I feel when I read this story: burn it all down. And yes, FS, ALL - the entire NFL, the entire patriarchy, everything must go.
Our daughters and wives deserve so much better than this bullshit. So much better.
