Coronavirus - COVID19

I have posted following previously: our liberties were taken away without any legal foundation, no vote, not a damn thing except fear. The data/modeling was bogus and that was obvious to most - more so because we were never, ever told the details.

Let's pose a hypothetical: suppose the details unfolded and the dire predictions were proximately accurate; moreover, imagine that the analysts stated this may last for several years. Do we continue a lockdown/quarantine? Suppose no vaccine is ever produced (took over a decade for AIDS)? Do we shut down? The point? There was never, IMO, any real plan. It was mostly shooting from the hip. There is mounting evidence, to compound the matter, that much of the advice /decisions was counter-productive.

Ax's point that people die every day is spot on. Lot's of people. We don't shut society down because of that. Per other posts, we never really implemented a risk based approach. Reality is that people stayed home and exited when they needed to tend to necessities - unless, of course, they were prevented from doing so out of fear or policy. Necessities like cancer treatments, surgeries, etc........

I see much of this as a mix of some practical moves and a heavy dose of power structure control. Look how quickly the social distancing/lockdown weenies (i.e., mayors, governors) changed their tune once Antifa and the rest decided to put Chapters 3, 5 and 7 of the urban destruction playbook into action. Not a friggin peep from the same people who were thrteatening folks with police action (the same ones they now deplore) the day before.

There was supposed to be a spike after the Wisconsin election. Don't recall seeing one.
There was supposed to be a spike after Georgia starting opening. Don't recall hearing about one.
Florida? Ozarks? Spring Break Beach Party?

So far, I haven't heard, or read, about any significant spike, yet. Which is good news.

The human race has survived every virus that's come down the pike. This one will be no different.
Neither will the next one.
Florida has had an increase in cases in some areas. No due to opening up per say, but due to more testing in one of our most impoverished rural communities. We have farm workers, mostly Hispanic that have little access to many basic necessities. There getting hit hard. How do you isolate when you have 13 people living in a trailer intended for 5, with about as unhealthy living conditions you could find. No health care coverage, and no choice but to work or starve. Some of the "work camps" have standards on the lines of the 1880's. The state, if you look at the numbers has had a decline overall, but going county by county, you will see it's not as it seems. You have to follow local news here, not national. Our governor wants it seem all is well. Phase 2 starts this weekend, so we'll see how it goes. Story below

MIles...what's the trend on deaths? Up to May 19th, 83% of Wuhan disease deaths in FL have been 65 or older.

I'm sure there are isolated spots where an increase in diagnosed cases are/will occur. But the hysterical death and suffering predictions made by the media, and other unmentionable cheerleaders of the "Shutdown until there's a cure" crowd, to date, have not happened. Anywhere. And as fansince eluded to, what's the death count? Because that's the criteria used to justify the overreaction. If it's not far more deadly than any virus ever known, there is no justification for the suicidal reaction to it, IMHO.

1400 new cases over night. I'll look into the trend of death

Florida didn't lock down though, did they?

Ya, we did. We were one of the first opening up too. Today starts phase 2... bars, clubs, bowling alleys, gyms, tattoo parlors, and other stuff at 50% capacity.

stay safe, bro. that seems scary.

Visited FL a couple weeks ago. When family drove there the first time there were checkpoints for out-of-staters. No issues. Wife and daughter are flying back there again this week. FL's problem, for this virus, is rather obvious - it's the retirement capitol of Amercia.

Note that the scope of FL's reopening does not include the counties/cities where the majority of new Covid positvie tests are occuring. The obvious hole here is travel. Nevertheless, policy is in place - whether based on "science" or not.

Got to go - there are mass demonstrations in Blue states I need to participate in that are Wuhan disease Not-Applicable.

The 'science' is imperfect. In any COVID-19 related discussion, expecting science to drive all decisions to our liking is going to lead to disappointment. The science so far is all over the place. It impacts only the elderly. Young Americans are at risk as well. This medication is an effective treatment. This medication results in worse outcomes. The virus will be quelled with the arrival of warm weather. The weather has no impact on the virus. A vaccine will be available in a year. No vaccine will ever be effective against this virus. And on and on. And these contradictions are not based on opinions - they are based on data. We are not in a controlled environment and it's nearly impossible to conduct blind verifiable studies to ascertain absolute facts in the middle of a pandemic. This is one of the reasons why I push back on the rampant and harsh criticism leveled at people like Fauci, the CDC, and state and federal leaders. It's very tough to predict and anticipate what will happen with different scenarios because 'science' is not all that helpful in the short term. I believe the vast majority are doing the best they can, in incredibly difficult circumstances, to make the best decisions (both in terms of safety and other considerations including economic ones). But the 'science' is only marginally helpful in that regard.

While positive Covid tests have spiked up, the death rate is on a downward trend in case anyone is tracking. This, despite ample evidence that the stats have been pumped up from the very begining. Does this undercut the seriousness of the threat? No. But it does call into question the approach that was adopted.

Yeah, most of the media is still trying to push the "China virus is a giant Pterodactyl snatching people out of there speeding automobiles, and eating them alive."

even though they're still open here in OH I havent stepped in a restaurant or pub since this went down.

Haven't been to a bar being I don't generally go to them but 2 or 3 times a year. We've been going out to our favorite restaurants since they opened up. Tables are spaced way out everywhere we've gone. So far, so good...

I was reading that a large reason for the spike in Florida is because it was hitting the migrant communities, especially in Palm Beach County where out toward Lake Okeechobee they have small 2 bedroom homes housing 8-12 people.

That is a big issue, and it's actually worse in collier county. Been saying it for a while, but the living / sanitary conditions are scary. Worse, these people can stop working, even knowing they have the virus. There doing a lot more testing too. One of our biggest test centers, a drive up with no script required originally were doing 450 tests a day. There doing a thousand a day now, and never actually get to all the people waiting in the que. There was a half mile line there at 6:30 this morning. I still don't know anybody personally here that has had it. Cabin fever didn't help either. You also have a wonderful loophole. Restaurants with bars can remain open if they make most of their money on food... don't know the percentage, but you can go in and sit and drink. It's screwed up here no doubt.

No problems where I live in VA. Stuff gets sanitized, seats are spaced. Only workforce wear masks. Since this all started there has only been one positive test case.
Businesses are starting to pick up.

Lotta (and I mean a lot) of NY, NJ, PA vacationers in my area this weekend. Not a good thing from a Covid perspective and on principle. However, since those states decided to actively eliminate their older/more susceptible demographics, these vacationers are almost uniformly younger presenting a lesser threat. /s

Still waiting for a certain party and its leadership to affirm that controlling our borders is necessary to control this virus and future such events.
