The Trent Williams question

Missed time...due to an injury. It happens to the best of them. Stop acting like hes weak due to it.

Scherff is not an NFL tackle. They tried him at RT and Morgan Moses beat him out for the position.
That's simply not true. He was versatile enough to move to the RG position as Moses began to catch on. He would never have been the draft pick had we known Moses would turn out to be serviceable at RT.

If it had come down to the 2 if RG had not been a need, Scherff would have been the starter at RT.

I wonder about the wisdom of having so much cap tied up in two OL if you were to ink deals for Williams and Scherff. I know you can get creative in writing these deals, but just want us to be smart about this.
The deal for TW should not be barn busting, and should be short with the guarantee up front so we can dump him in a couple years. He should just be a stop gap at this point.

If not, we don't re-sign him...that simple. Make him play out his contract or trade him. The problem with trading him now is that this draft class is deep with tackles. We will not get more than a 2nd round pick for TW if we can manage that.

I wasn't looking at Pro Football Reference on the age, just ballparking it (should've said so). He's still a FULL 4 year contract younger than TW which is a huge difference. Again - I'm just putting out there as an alternative thought. I almost guarantee you if TW doesn't return and they did re-sign and move Scherff, he'd certainly be able to play as well as Donald Penn. I think Scherff is better than he gets credit for. And for a supposed OL guru, Callahan sure as hell left us in a pretty shaky situation. I know he doesn't buy the groceries, but I have to think he had some input. And it's surprising how unhappy most of that OL has been under his watch.

And then a naked Scarlett Johansson walked into the room bringing you a cold beer...

Nobody's giving the Redskins that much draft capital for a LT entering the twilight of his career.

ScarJo would be a much needed upgrade to the secondary. With agility she could jump on a receivers shoulders and intercept any pass coming her side of the field.

I think the Skins are going to do everything they consider reasonable to get both Trent and Scherff signed sealed and delivered. Remember what Rivera said on day one when asked about this philosophy for building a team ... first, get a franchise QB, and second, protect him.

We don't now if he thinks he has said franchise QB at this point, but until and unless we see indications he's planning to move on from Dwayne, he's acting as if he's checked box 1 and is moving quickly (see talking Trent back into the picture) to consolidate box 2.

Multiple sources are now reporting that Trent wants a new contract or a trade. Not a big shock here at all, but now we've heard it from him (or his people). So that pretty much eliminates the idea of having him play out the contract before we deal with this.

hes been wanting this the entire time! This isn't new.

Give him a 3 year deal.
Make it good, but not top of the line
lace it with incentives like "play all 16 games get X dollars"

all people are happy and a lifer Skins player gets to retire with us. That hasn't happened in a long ass time. Samuels maybe?

I apologize for not going through the thread and then posting, but I’ve largely been in the same spot about Trent for a while. I largely appreciate how valuable he is and has been. I completely appreciate that he had no love for the previous regime; duh. I get he had a major health scare that was not taken seriously enough. But this whole ordeal has clearly been more about money than anything. The latest installment has proven this.
if I can get a high 2nd for Trent, good riddance. Go play 6-12 games a year for someone else and we get a high pick, deal done.

I'm inclined to agree with Mike in that we just need to extend him, get it over with. Otherwise, trade him to the Lions or Jets and let him live life in obscurity.

We just need to shit or get off the pot, I am growing fatigued as well.

I’m fatigued with this guy. That’s what this whole thing has been about from day 1.

I feel like there was probably a legit health issue there with the cancer scare. That kind of thing is kinda hard to fake and no doubt the team will want to review all the records on Trent's treatment. So I don't think it started as a money grab.

Having said that, I think Trent and his agent have looked at this situation and decided that there is an opportunity here - turning it into a money grab or a way to force his way out of Washington and onto a team with a real chance at a title. Honestly, I am not sure which. I also have no doubt that Trent wants to recoup the money he lost last year in the holdout - probably blaming the team and feeling like they should have to pay.

I am tired enough of the situation to trade him between now and the draft. There has got to be a team out there who thinks that with a proven All Pro LT they have a real shot at a Super Bowl and because of that are willing to part with some quality draft picks. Not saying a 1st rounder but maybe a 2 this year and a 5 or 6 this year and a conditional 3 to 5 pick next year.

I wasn’t implying the health issues aren’t real or even that he could’ve played last season. But his ridiculous effort to blame the team for it and to use that as the reason for not even showing up was all about $$ imho.

It said a lot to me when Trent refused to take legal action and the NFLPA said "We're disappointed, but.... "

The said to me the team really had very little liability in his health issues, if any at all. He could have won a HUGE payday even just to keep quiet... but no. This has been about money and his contract from the very beginning. I say trade him to Detroit, let him make $45m over three years and be bad seed in their locker room.

The pothead is on the downside of his career but he's gonna want crazy money. Trade his ass and be done with it

Because of Trent:

Bruce is gone
the entire training staff was fired

That right there is worth the "headaches" he supposedly caused.

Without getting a first round pick for him we can't let him go. We would then be without a LT as I really don't see getting a player good in the 2nd to be our LT of the future. I don't want to pay him the top money for a LT, but there should be some middle ground. We could get another 3-4 good years out of him.

I would be pretty psyched for both our lines and chances with Williams, Flowers, Roullier, Scherff, Conklin.
