Random Commanders Thoughts

Hooper is being allowed to test the waters by Atlanta. It's going to take a massive deal to land him though as everyone outside of KC, SF and Philly is going to be after him!

The WP article on how the Ravens have built their offense around the receiving skills of their TEs a la NE a decade ago was interesting.

Of course years ago TEs were a relative bargain compared to wide receivers but are now moving up in $$.

Not sure if Rivera is deploying a smoke screen or he has legit interest in Tua. I hope he’s just playing coy to get a King’s ransom for the 2nd pick

Well - we rebuffed them the last time they approached, and up till the past couple days all indications were that he was open to possibly returning and the team working something out. There will definitely be teams interested imho.

I guess there’s a rumor now that he’s asking for a ridiculous amount, like $20m a year to offset his holdout losses for last season. I believe the sooner we get rid of this chump the better off we’ll be

Yeah, if he is looking for 20 million a year I would let him go.

People act like he's not getting paid well right now. The market at any given position is continually going up. The idea that players deserve to be able to halt a contract mid-stream and demand it be 'market adjusted' is ridiculous and I guarantee you the NFL is going to put a stop to that nonsense in the upcoming CBA. You'll either play out your existing contract or you're going to take a huge hit. Watch and see if they don't address it.

Haskins would be better served just to get off social media, or figure out that **** posted there is meaningless and doesn't represent the opinions of the masses.

I agree he needs to stop tweeting and just focus on getting better. On the other hand ‘IF’ Rivera & the skins are seriously contemplating doing a Kyler Murray sequel it’s going to backfire imho.

I hoped getting rid of Bruce would cure our practice of drafting injured players (Tua), especially at a position Dwayne is currently at. No one is going to give us a 1st for Haskins this season and we’ll only end up with unneeded tension on a team with even greater holes unnecessarily created in doing so.

What's the alternative to not doing due diligence on Tua and other top QBs though Win? Telegraphing there's no way we are drafting a QB and guaranteeing that there's zero chance of a big trade-up offer? They have to convince other teams there's at least a possibility they'll go QB - it would be stupid not to. Haskins needs to be smarter, man up, and keep whatever angst he feels to himself (or at least off social media).

As for Tua, just as with any hot QB prospect - no one can really know who he will be at the NFL level. Folks claim an 'Andrew Luck' type prospect is a 'can't miss' but even with players of his measureables, no one can ever be 100% sure which QBs will prove to be stars and which ones won't. It's quite possible that Haskins will prove to be a bust, and Tua a HOFer. It's also possible the reverse will prove out.

As far as the 'drafting injured players' thing - I don't entirely disagree. But by that definition, you're literally eliminating about half of every draft class. I don't think that's a reasonable approach. Tua's injury was a very uncommon one... some might even call it a 'freak' injury. I'd need to know, is his hip more or less prone to future dislocations after the surgical repair. If the answer is that it's no more or less likely to dislocate in the future, then it's a non-issue. I think when it comes to injuries, the devil is in the details.

And Win - what's wrong with the Kyler Murray move? That's a perfect example of WHY you don't compound a huge draft mistake by doubling down on it. Murray is going to be a good one. The guy he replaced will probably be out of the NFL (or a career backup) in a couple seasons. I don't know if Haskins can be a great (or even reliable) starter. But if Rivera looks at his tape, gets to know him, and determines he's far closer to Josh Rosen than Kyler Murray, I hope like hell they do draft Tua.

And sometimes Haskins sounds like a little whiny, insecure *****. I want him to succeed, to be the guy, I've been an advocate. But if you're strong and confident and determined - act like it instead of bitching on social media like a sad little millennial.

hes 20?

dude was shit on by Gruden (like a lot of our players were) for almost his entire rookie season, thrown in there in a losing situation, and then whatever the rest of the season was.

Is he just a kid now with a chip on his shoulder or a real whiny bitch? I dont know.

he is working out HARD right now, taking the WR corp to FL to train with them, and that post says to me that he is tired of people talking about him being an "if" and is pissed off because he knows what he can do.

I agree with a lot of that, most in fact. But the bottom line is that he hasn't proven anything yet. You prove it on the field, not with social media bravado. There are plenty of reasons for social media experts to doubt him. I believe in him. But if I'm his coach, his social media posts reflect hypersensitivity and insecurity. If you're uber-confident - act like it. That's all I'm saying.

Part of the reason I get irritated with it is FOR him, not because of him. There are a bunch of tools on social media that are looking to trash players and get a reaction. It's totally unfair and classless but that's what 99% of the internet is about. I just wish he'd eliminate that from his mind and stay off social media entirely. There is literally nothing to be gained from it for a young QB trying to prove himself.

you are 1000000000% correct. I don't like people telling me how great they are. When I see the tape, I will listen to you.
