WaPo: Cooley's Ankle or Foot Broken :(

Cooley and Samuels are done for the year. Chris is almost certainly done for his career.

The irony on the OL is that the Redskins have been forced by injuries and poor performances to re-make their line midway through the season, and almost certainly will have 3 or 4 new starters next season.

Derrick Dockery is the only player now starting that I expect to see back.

Williams and Heyer are not starting caliber. Montgomery is a natural center not RG, and Casey Rabach will be 33 years old and his contract expires at the end of the season.

Does anyone think Randy Thomas at 34 and having missed much of the past 3 years is a good bet to play 16 games here in 2010?

Since we know that Rinehart simply can't play the game at this level, it would seem to indicate that a complete housecleaning will be underway.

I don't see a way to do this for 4 positions in a year, BD. Especially considering that we could not seem to get it done for just one position, Right Tackle, last year.

In fact, the only way I see this happening is if we have a couple of these positions filled with guys already but aren't using them in the right positions. Maybe if Montgomery is starting Center material and Williams can be moved inside to Right Guard successfully leaving us with only the two Tackle positions to fill.

Even so, you are talking about the two highest demand, most expensive, hardest to fill positions on the Offensive Line.

Especially when we can be virtually certain that the team will be looking for a starting QB too.

Actually Neo, I think it might be more like three positions. I'd actually like to see BMW at RG. He's simply not quick enough to play tackle but at guard I think he could be a decent player, at least long enough to get us over the hump anyway. If we're lucky, Montgomery ends up developing into a solid, if unspectacular center which would leave us only needing bookends. As you say, OT isn't exactly the easiest slot to fill so we'd still have a long way to go to build a decent OL. However, if it does work out the way I described, it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

**Edit** I just pretty much said the same thing you did. Nevermind. Just consider my post changed to "What he said". :)

I dont agree at all here. He may not be known for his blocking but he it is far from sucking.

Most pass catching TE's aren't great blockers and vice versa.
We'll just have to disagree then, my brother.

I certainly agree that most receiving TE's aren't great blockers. But, as much as I like the guy, I feel Cooley is a below average blocker, at best.
