Amid the wash of mistakes and miscues that can't be fixed immediately because of a lack of talent at certain positions, ie QB and OL, you can look at the special teams as one area where improvement should not only be hoped for but expected.

I am counting the games and so far the special teams have cost this team at least 3 points in each contest going back to the opener.

Missed field goals. Botched snaps. A protection breakdown allowing a 6'7 DL to get penetration. And then there's today with a Redskin running onto the field about 5 seconds before the 30 second clock was set to run out.

This latest installment of special teams error is not one of talent but simply of focus and concentration. How can you forget you are on the kick conversion unit as a player on the sidelines being plugged into the game?

Don't get me wrong, there's limitations to what this team can do in other areas and that showed up in the first half today, but Danny Smith is once again managing to fly under the radar in terms of the miscues of one of his units.

Yeah. The delay of game on what was already a 50-50 long field goal to essentially take us out of FG range was just unforgiveable. And someone needs to explain to Banks that he's not allowed to run it out of the endzone 15 times for every 1 decent return.

Been saying it for a while, I think Banks gets cut soon. An entire half of piss poor returns resulting in poor field position is not wiped out by one or two nice returns. He either needs to be more consistent or he will be cut. Consistency would result from taking a knee every now and again, btw.

well, my point is exactly that. the discipline on special teams is lacking.

from an outsider's perspective this team seems rudderless on teams.

every week brings new breakdowns and points left on the field.

Banks on returns is a situation that is out of control. Right now there doesn't seem to be any guidelines the team is giving Banks on when to bring balls out.

It seems as if it is all left up to him.

Who is Banks at this point?

He is a 23 year old second year player that shows poor judgment at times.

He is NOT a 28 or 29 year old Brian Mitchell or Mike Nelms you TRUST with the ball in his hands.
