How did this ever get passed? I understand giving players time to work on their degrees or other interests...but can't talk football with coaches? Can't have a football on a football practice field?

I can't imagine going to work and being told can't discuss anything business related for a period of time.

If we sign Peyton Manning the coaches can't discuss the playbook? According to this the discussions would have to be 'how your parents doing' or 'going fishing'....this doesn't make sense.

NOTE: In case you can't tell, I am going through serious football withdrawls and hate the offseason. Guess with go view the thread and look at the pics for better health.

I can understand it not being "required" that players attend all of the off-season stuff, but this is just silly. It is after all a job.

If I were a millionaire football player (or even a houndred-thousandaire), I wouldn't mind going to the facility a few hours during the day to talk to coaches and better myself. If this was something the players wanted in the CBA, they are really becoming hardcore primadonnas. It's sad.

On the surface this doesn't make sense to me either, however it seems to me this is so the players actually get a true 3-4 month off-season. The OTA's are technically voluntary but we all know they are not if a player want's to stay out of the coach's doghouse. These rules seem to me to allow the players to use the facilities without being coerced to do more. Yes they get paid tons of money and 3-4 months off is way more vacation then what normal folks get but once the season starts (for them) in April with OTA's followed by training camp and the season, they put in allot of time at work/sharing hotel rooms with other restrictions compared with most (outside of the active duty military).

Not trying to defend this rule, but I "think" I understand why this rule is in there?

Now I understand why even Mark Murphy thinks the pendulum has swung far enough in favor of the players.
