I realize that the Skins are going to be huge players if Free Agency this year, but just to get a conversation going, lets say you can only pick one. Who would it be?

We had what I consider to be a good draft this year but we still have lots of holes to fill. It also looks like that the Free Agency rule is going to be four years. So lets assume that is the case for this exercise.

My pick is Aubrayo Franklin. I think a good NT and getting a descent CB to replace Rogers makes this defense good again. We need to work on the O-line not to mention that little position called QB. However, I just don't see a free agent QB that excites me. So if I only had one pick it would be Franklin.

Have to agree. Other than QB, it's the biggest spot we DIDN'T address in the draft and, unless we trade for one, there's not a FA QB I'd rather have over Franklin.

Then again, depending on what Jamal Brown does, I'd have to rank Ryan Harris and maybe Nnamde Asomugha up there mighty close.

The fact that Franklin is 31 and would be looking for a pay day doesn't concern you?

Nnamdi Asamougha!

A shut down corner isn't necessarily a need as much as a solid Carlos Rogers type, but imagine if he went to Philthy with Asante Samuels on the other side. This is a case where we should probably spend a little more than we should to keep a player away from our foes.

Franklin's age does concern me a little. Nnamdi is the same age and will be a whole lot more expensive.

Who knows, what he says is probably meaningless - I'm sure he doesn't want to show his hand just yet. Can't blame him for wanting out with John Skelton leading the offense though...but would he leave John Skelton for John Beck? I'm not so sure...maybe if we draft Luck in 2012 he'd come here, but not before that.

I think the Cards win the Kevin Kolb sweepstake.

Brad Johnson. Or maybe Gus.

Romeo Bandison. He can rip the heads off of opposing QBs like no other DE.

Ok, ok...

Ryan Harris.

What I've been seeing online suggests the Jets are going to make re-signing Santonio a priority so his availability may be questionable.

Picking just one is a tall order for me but I'd probably lean toward Ryan Harris. Cullen Jenkins is a major temptation but he has a problematical injury history being out of five games the Packers played including the last four regular season games.

Seeing as he's technically a Free Agent and has not yet been franchised, and getting into the spirit of the OP by only being able to sign ONE FA this year, my choice would be...........Peyton Manning. :D

I can dream, can't I? :doh1:

That brings up a good question - since there is no CBA right now, there is no tampering, correct? Can teams just call up Peyton and see what kind of money it would take to pry him from Indy?

I'm guessing tampering would be a league "administrative" rule that is not subject to a collective bargaining agreement. Since there is a lockout in place, I don't think anyone representing the owners' side, i.e. front office and coaching staffs, can have any NFL football-related contact with players or their representatives, i.e. their agents.

Would Kyle and Peyton get along?

That's an excellent question. One is a coach ON the field and the other is a coach OFF it. Manning is actually older and has pretty much seen it all. Kyle is still a little wet behind the ears with a "seemingly" big ego. I have a feeling they would likely butt heads on philosophy.

Then again, it's simply a pipe dream. There are likely a half dozen teams Manning would play for BEFORE the Skins. The odds of him leaving the Colts are slim and none.

Do you guys want Jammal Brown back or would you rather have Ryan Harris? Something can be said for a Offensive Line that has worked together before but Harris is several years younger.

I see the O-line going like this. LT - Trent Williams, RT - Harris or Brown and then Interior Line being Lichtensteiger, Montgomery and a free agent. Not sure if Lichtensteiger or Montgomery will play center or rather a free agent will but I don't see how Rabach comes back. I guess Eric Cook would be in line to compete for a Guard job too, but he is to tall to be a center.

I read something that said the Skins should go after Doug Free and move Trent to the right side but I am not buying that one.

A RT has to be a priority. We'll most likely have to make due with what we have on the interior and hope some new talent emerges.

I thought the move to get Jamal last year was a good one but he hasn't been 100% and I understand he wants to move back to LT (or at least wants to get paid like one). As long as he's willing to play on the right side and his price isn't out of line he's probably our best option.

Doug Free's name has come up in conversation a couple of times but the Cowboys seem serious about re-signing him. He'd want LT money anyway and we need to be smart how we spend. We could look at a guy like Willie Colon who is coming off an Achilles injury but should be 100% by the start of the season (if we have one).
