The NFLPA is prepared to sign an extension of the CBA today 3/2!!!!!!!!

What the?!..... Ok somebody tell me if i'm reading this incorrectly.

the last bargaining session - because we felt that it was in the best interest of the fans, the players and the League to work on a long term agreement without the unknowns of the uncapped year - we went even further to propose a one year extension of the CBA that froze the salary cap at the 2009 level. The League rejected the players’ proposal.

Our representatives today renewed that proposal and also offered to negotiate a longer extension on the premise of the League’s statement that it will guarantee that the salary cap will not decrease and that retired players’ and other benefits will not decrease.

We have asked the League to meet with our representatives immediately to attempt to reach an extension of the agreement.

I think that what they are trying to do here is to ensure there is a salary cap floor, that teams can't be super stingy under the 2010 uncapped year and therefore cost them money. At least that's what I thought of when I read this.

I don't honestly know though.

It's not a new CBA, it was an offer by the union to extend the current CBA through 2010.

The NFL said no.

More or less where the players have looked forward to a uncapped year, they've realized that an uncapped year is bad for them with a great deal of players becoming RFAs and with no salary floor.

Expect a uncapped 2010.

I think it's a case of “careful what you wished for”. For the longest time the player's association said if the salary cap ever went away they would make sure it never came back. Okay, but that cuts both ways. Not only can the top levels spend whatever they want but the bottom feeder teams no longer have to meet any minimums, and there are a lot more of those types in the mix. Overall salaries in the league could go down this season, way down. I'd love to see the numbers at the end of the season.

There are so many ways the new CBA could go it's pure speculation on my part as to how things will work out. If I had to guess I'd say there will be some sort of rookie pay scale and some system that looks an awful like what we have now.

Neither side is going to get serious until the 11th hour, next year, about this time.

I'd expect a great deal of vet min. deals this year
