I think this is a good idea to post any rumors, suggestions or news on a potential new head coaching search.

For those against a new HC, this probably isn't the thread for you.

For those interested in learning about potential candidates, this thread may be great.

First, current, some wild, unsubstantiated rumors going around the internet.

1. Jon Gruden--It's widely believed that Dan is in love with him. Personally, I don't ever see an announcer giving up that cushy job for 100x more stress, and a ton of more hours.

2. Art Briles--HC at Baylor University. The RG3 connection, and his teams score an insane amount of points.

3. Steve Mariucci--Dan was rumored to have been very interested in him during the last time around. Although an announcer, I do believe there is a small chance that he would actually return to coaching.

4. My personal dream coach, Jay Gruden. His W-L record as a coach at different levels of football is amazing. His AFL success was legendary, and he's built a monster of an offense at Cincinatti. That team used to be a dumpster fire. Now it's a real contender.

After last night I'm done with the Shanahan's. They may not have all of the pieces, that may have unfair cap restraints...I get all that but the Oline is a mess who is this Leribus guy again? I'm so done with Aldrick Robinson, Hankerson, Morgan, Biggers, Rambo etc. There are way too many misses, not enough hits. They aren't developing the talent that we have. How do players get to this level and not know how to tackle? How do the coaches let us get to week 5 and still have so many wiffs and broken tackles by the special teams? I wish we would just quit returning kick offs we are much better off going for the touchback. I understand there have been some nice pick ups as well but not enough to counter the bad ones.

Don't let this get ugly, gents. McD5 is expressing his opinion and that is what internet forums are all about.

And no, this isn't directed at anyone in particular. Just making a statement up front so we are all on the same page.

From your list, McD, Art Briles interests me the most. Admittedly, I don't know much about him except that they seem to have a plug and play style of offense that scores a lot of points.

For the record, I think Shanny stays barring a direct intervention from Griffin (yes, if Griff went to Danny and pulled a Magic Johnson, I think Shanny would be gone) or a monumental collapse the rest of the year (finishing with 3-4 wins). I think both of those scenarios actually go hand in hand and are extremely unlikely.

I will say, Jon Gruden would annoy the hell out of me. So I really hope nothing with him.

That's fine and all. But MCD5 doesn't get to tell those that think he's insane to find another thread either :)

Because in my opinion, anyone wanting to start over is insane.

Our QB is a glorified rookie.
He's coming off a 2nd total knee reconstruction.
We've been hamstrung in a real rebuilding effort by two major factors. First, the price we paid to get Griffin. Secondly, by the ridiculous cap penalty. This team has only found a couple of studs to plug in so far. We're not done yet. If we are still in a downward spiral 2-3 years from now, then I might listen to this kind of talk.

Shanahan and Allen inherited a mess. We may be 1-4 right now, but the organization is the most stable it's been since Gibbs I. Even with Gibbs II, we were rotating coaches and never seemed to have a real plan (other than to start Brunell and run Portis). The coaches some of you want to burn in effigy gave us the best goddamn Redskins football we've seen in 20 years last year. That's no exaggeration. What short memories we have. I'm willing to bet they have more for us down the road.

We're impatient. And deservedly so. But I see no signs of panic, implosion, or other dysfunctional response amongst the players and coaches. They are continuing to work, to say the right things, and I think they'll turn this franchise around.

Start over?

Man, you guys are gluttons for punishment.

Gruden won with a team built by Tony Dungy, and did little after that. I'd have to shoot off a toe just to get past hiring him. Bad part is, I don't have enough toes to make it through a complete season with him in charge.

Dude, you live in Florida, right ?
Losing toes in state that's famous for wearing flip-flops, can't be a good thing.
Especially if you start out by losing your big toe.

Holy crap is that an understatement! I had a bit of loud disagreement with a co-worker this morning on this very topic. Who in their right mind, having watched the Redskins start over with new coaches on a ridiculously regular basis recently, could possibly think doing it again is the right move?

Blow up the coaching staff, new focus on the type of players, rebuild the roster, give the players time to learn the new scheme's. In two or three years blah blah blah ... really?

I've seen every second of this year's team. I understand how ridiculously poorly they've played. I am extremely pissed off about it, especially given how well this same group played at the end of last season. There is no doubt in my mind that I would still much rather maintain continuity, and let a veteran, proven, existing coach, with his established coaches and players, work their way out of whatever this crap is then reset for another three years, with zero guarantee that it would work.

Hire a real special team's coach if things don't drastically improve, definitely. Bring in a proven, successful 3-4 defensive coordinator? If there's someone available that fits, I'm on board with that as well. New head coach and everything that goes along with that change? No freakin 'way.

The problem I have with this staff is the same one I had from the beginning. Mike can't fire the offensive coordinator. A huge lack of accountability and therefore complicity. Its really a bad recipe, one that may lead to disaster. Despite the special teams failure, Griffin had a subpar game and the play calling was suspect. I never saw shots down field and taking advantage of matchups. Maybe I missed it, but I think we were out coached by a team playing mostly street guys and backups.

I try to be rational with conversations so I'm going to ATTEMPT to give my opinion on this and treat this thread as its own...

I cannot avoid this thread simply because I don't agree with the sentiment, in fact I think it's way off base that the notion is even being suggested... Boone hit it on the head. This team has had turmoil, frustration, and utter EMBARRASSMENT for more then 20 years now. We've cycled through coaches of every type. We've tried the up and coming coordinator (Turner), the rehash (Gibbs 2.0), the hot shot college coach (Spurrier), and the new guy on the block (Zorn). Outside of a momentary spark during Gibbs 2.0, and a flash in the pan with Turner, it's been a constant snowball of metaphorical poop rolling down a slope of overspending and false hope.

I am still 100% devoted to this franchise, that's not going to change, but I'm also not going to be narrow minded and short termed like the decisions revolving around this team have been. Looking at the direction this team was headed in... we finally reached the Bermuda Triangle of the sports world. Talent comes in, but its lost...

In comes Mike Shanahan... He's criticized about how he handles Albert Haynesworth... player no longer in the league... He's criticized about how he handles Donovan McNabb... player no longer in the league. People cant believe he lets go of the receivers we drafted in Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas... NEITHER player in the league. He's criticized about how he handled Clinton Portis... Player no longer in the league now... as much as it pains me to say this... he was questioned with how he handled Cooley.... and Cooley is no longer in the league. He caught slack when they drafted Kirk Cousins and without him, we don't win the division last year. He was criticized for not running any read option in the preseason last year and we ended up changing the NFL landscape for multiple franchises. WE ran the read-option first... He was also criticized for not addressing the offensive line last year, and we ended up having a ROOKIE break our FRANCHISE SINGLE SEASON RUSHING RECORD... guess who held that before Morris... JOHN THE DIESEL RIGGINS.

He's put the feel good stories aside and he's cut the fat from the franchise... EVERYTHING was in disarray when he got here and he changed that. He's gotten the OWNER to back off... the most micromanaging owner in the league has stepped back and given the football people the ability to make the football decisions. He's also been able to work the culture to where players WANT TO BE HERE to play football, not get paid. We've got a future now. We now have a young secondary who appears to be developing. We have a VERY strong front 7 on the defensive side of the ball.. and as crazy as it sounds.. ORAKPO is considered the "weakest link." 4 years ago he was one of very bright spots on the entire roster... Oh, and lets not forget that rookie running back I referenced earlier, along with another young stud in Roy Helu Jr. OH YEAH... how could I forget.... ROBERT GRIFFIN III... How many Heisman winners go on to win ROY? I can only find 3 other names, Barry Sanders, George Rogers, Marcus Allen. THIS regime brought Griffin here.

They took these pieces and led them to one of the greatest turn around seasons anyone has ever witnessed... from 5 - 11 and in LAST PLACE to 10 - 6 and division champs. All while playing in the same division as the (at the time) defending super bowl champions and the lovers of the league, the Dallas Cowboys. We also went 5 - 1 in the NFCE, and we were literally 60 seconds away from sweeping it. Oh, and I forgot to mention that he did all of it, dealing with an outrageous cap penalty. Players have resigned here for less money because the culture has changed. Allen and Shanny changed that, the facts show that.

To suggest that they haven't earned the right to work this team for AT LEAST 2 more years, without a cap penalty, and with 2 rising stars in the NFL is absolutely absurd and unbelievable. THEY changed this team and this franchise. You want to dismiss my opinion... so be it... but to think it's fair to want his job, after the things stated above its comical at best.

I don't think it's any one factor that cost us the game. We didn't execute at critical moments. We sure as hell didn't get the calls. And our QB is still struggling, whether it's rust, fear, or the fact that he can't blink twice before the pass rush is on him. I'm not sure any of that is coaching. The only obvious issue I saw with the coaching was the inability to run the 2 minute drill with any kind of clock management. Playcalling is always suspect when the QB doesn't make the throws, the WRs don't make the catches, the blockers miss key blocks, the kickers miss kicks.

When those things come together, the play calling - it suddenly looks pretty good.

And by all means, those who want to talk about who our head coach should be, keep discussing. Asking for the thread to stay on topic is certainly fair. I just think 'the same one we currently have' is a possible response.

The Giants were close to firing Coughlin before the 07 and 11 seasons, as difficult as patience is at times, we need to have some.

High coaching turnover has never won any franchise anything

Now if someone wants to put their foot in Kyle's bunghole and wake his *** up, be my guest

You know what staff moves should be made?

1. AFTER pops leaves, move Kyle to HC. Yeah I said it.
2. Offer Jim Haslett to Dallas in exchange for a ham sammich. If they refuse, draw and quarter Haslett on pay-per-view and hire Wade Phillips to replace him.
3. Bring back......wait for it......Norville to be our OC.

After the run we went on when pops took the cuffs off of Kyle last year, I am convinced it's him holding back Kyle that's killing our offense, not the other way around.
