Tandler: Haslett says he'll turn Orakpo and Kerrigan loose

Whelp, that shot at Shanahan says a lot about our defensive production last year and why Haslett is still here. You know, for those who are still wondering why Haslett wasn't fired.

And even Tandler with a shot of his own.

"From what I can gather, dropping Orakpo into coverage as much as he did was not Haslett’s idea. It came from the top, aka, offensive genius but defensive bust Mike Shanahan. Haz would draw up ways to get more pass pressure in OTAs and early in training camp but when the season rolled around, Shanny wouldn’t let them in the playbook."

I strongly believe that Shanahan was the worst coach of my lifetime.

Yeah, Zorn and Spurrier may not have been fantastic, but neither used three first rounders on a QB and then ran him into the ground on a bad wheel. That makes it Shanahan, hands down.

I'm not sure that any other coach in NFL history has done that before.

.

I think you say things like this just to get a rise out of people. Yeah, he made some questionable acquisitions, rode his QB too hard, yes it appears he demanded control over the defense, but for ****'s sake he was able to win the division too. Worst coach of your lifetime? Jim...friggin...Zorn!!!

I respect that opinion, and know it's popular, but even Zorn didn't jeopardize three first rounders.

If RG3 never returns to full health, or if he never has the same throwing accuracy again, I think people will see things differently.

If that does happen, Shanahan may have set this team back an additional five years.

McD5 is just excitable that's all. I know we hate Shanahan, but he did win us a division. That may mean nothing to everyone else here, but I enjoyed the hell out of that season, and it didn't just happen by accident. He also had a hell of a lot of success with Denver. And yeah, I know about John Elway :) I think the era of control freak 'my way or the highway' coaches has passed. Shanahan's style of coaching just isn't a good fit for modern NFL clubs anymore. Joe Gibbs was a frigging saint and he failed to have the success he had in his first tenure. Shanahan surely didn't. But worst coach? He's not even in the top 5 of worst Redskins coaches.

I like this response, but I believe when you really step back and take a look, it's not even a question about who was worse. I'm about to go out for dinner, but here's a shortened version.

Shanahan had a lot of experience, with SBs to his name.

Zorn had virtually no experience. Neither as a HC, nor as even an OC with a playbook.

They had nearly identical, if not identical records.

Now sorry, but if the guy off the street walks in and does as good as the guy with 20 years of experience, I'm giving the new guy the nod.

In addition, Shanahan oversaw the single worst ST in the history of the league. Not Zorn.

Shanahan had 3 WR coaches in four years, and guys like Bob S. He didn't know what a good coordinator looked like. Not Zorn.

Shanny risked three first rounders. Not Zorn.

And to add insult to injury? He leaked ugly info before games on Sunday morning about our team. Over and over.

Sorry, I just don't see how a case can be made for him. Zorn was less qualified, and a terrible hire. But Shanahan did more damage.

Shamahan was an ultimate failure here. I always thought him to be an asshole, which, IMO, he proved while he was here.
But he's still a better NFL head coach than Zorn, or Spurrier.

Arguing otherwise is theoretical hogwash. Using cherry picked stats as a defense for such a far out claim is a little comical, too.

Zorn seems a better person. But not a better coach.

Exhibit A. One of the most embarrassing moments in the history of the Washington Redskins. Swingate, courtesy of one Jim Zorn......

The worst part about the swinging gate was that the giants recognized it, and called timeout. Any sane person would've said to themselves, "okay, giants know what is coming, let's kick the field goal."

Nope ol' Jimmy Zorn called the SAME THING. A play that relies on total surprise to work, and Jim called it against a D that was sitting on it.

This article, by the way, is awesome. Next year, when Rak is approaching 20 sacks, I'll say I told you so. :D

Hope you're right, but I don't buy into probability predictions that takes nothing into account besides the numbers. The probability numbers are always fun to look at, but going from 11 to almost 20 sacks is a huge jump. I'd be thrilled with say 15, if he's healthy enough to make it through the entire season.

Haslett is a turdbag, if he had any integrity he would have said that shanny was hamstringing him when it was happening but instead he suckholed, because he suckholed to get get the job in the first place. shanny hired him because he wanted a yes man, if you take the job under those circumstances, you are what you are. He said last year he was turning kerrigan and rak loose too, he has zero credibility

Lol. Slightly different... Rak has already shown he can perform. :)

;)

after 4 years of not getting what he wanted out of orakpo, we're now supposed to believe haslett will do it this year?

even if shanahan was controlling him that much, that just tells me haslett has no sack. ( ;) )
this whole "everything was shanahan's fault and now that the wicked witch is gone we can be a great team" is getting a little... suspicious.
