I'm a Redskins fan through and through. Anyone who knows me knows that. But growing up in a "football" family (my brother is a football coach and my family has had Redskins season tickets since the 40's).. I'm a realist also.

Of course I'm disappointed about today's game. Any Redskin fan is going to be disappointed by a loss.

But I'm looking at the future. I was excited about the trade to get RGIII. Who knew we would find the gem of Morris in the sixth round. These are our players of the future. What we've seen with RGIII so far has been exciting and it brings hope. But that hope is for the future because we know we need other things. We need more strength on the OL. We need a secondary that will not give up big plays constantly. And yes, despite Cundiff kicking the winning field goal against the 49ers, I'm not sure he's going to be around after missing what should have been a chip shot today.

I'm excited for our future. I'm excited about what RGIII and Morris, along with Garcon because of his chemistry with RGIII can do for us. I want RGIII to be safe. He plays fearless. He's not afraid to take off with the ball. The one thing I did really notice today that when he was about to be sacked, the FIRST thing he did was embrace the ball and protect it. I don't remember exactly when it was in the game, but that impressed me. His first thought as he was being taken down was to protect that ball. That is something that some veteran QBs do not do. We need to protect RGIII so I think the OL has to be addressed. Just as we have to address the secondary. Kerrigan and Fletcher cannot be everywhere all the time.

Anyway that's my take. I'm a disappointed Redskins fan but one that has a lot of hope for our future. The exciting era of football for Redskins fans has started.. as long as we keep RGIII safe and healthy.

That's all I gotta say. I love the Redskins and I love football. And I hope you don't mind my babbling here a bit.

And see below.. even one of my halloween decorations is griffining :)

I'm like you. Further, I had no real expectations for the team this year other than learning to play together under a new QB. I do like that we finally have an offense that can put more than 6 points a game on the board. I too am glad we get to see the kids get a year under their belts. Most of all, I like the fight I see this year. Up until last year had we gone down a touchdown, the team was mentaly in to locker room taking showers in the third quarter. Now, they fight. They may not be able to win yet, but they fight.

all we learned today is that if we dont get a better Oline, we wont have Griffin very long

The oLine did well today, I thought. Griff running with abandon out of the pocket is what got himself hurt. The hits Griff took earlier in the game were on blitzes for the most part. I thought the line opened some nice holes for Morris and protected Griff rather nicely. The coaches have got to coach him up on running safely.

An elementary blitz that should have been (A.) picked up by Fred Davis or (B.) Griffin should have seen it. Neither noticed it so he took a pretty good shot to his blind side. The only saving grace was that Turns-TYLER™ Polumbus was beat like a drum, again so Griffin was already preparing to take a beating from his right when he got blindsided by the DB on his left.

How come our blitzes don't get to the QB inside of 3.5 seconds?

Yeah I'm copyrighting that ****

I agree with you. Unfortunately I wasn't "watching" the game, I was going by what was being said in chat. Obviously holes were being open for Morris. Whether they have to pull in the leash on Griff running with abandon or what... he needs to be protected. But the replay on the one sack I saw is what impressed me with his protection of the ball.

On the blindside sack, Morris missed the corner that was blitzing.

Our receivers had skillet hands today and dropped what would've been some 3rd down conversions today.

We convert a few of those and the defense gets a decent rest on the sideline and isn't stranded on the field all day.

Steve Young said Griffin has to be smarter about running out of the pocket and knowing when he is not going to get a first down and look to protect himself.

I agree the OL is a problem overall, but was not responsible for the injury today.

What bothers me about the OL is that NONE of the team's draft picks from 2012 were active today on a team whose line has been inconsistent and downright shaky at times.

If LeRibeus and Gettis can't get on the field or at least be the top backup at Spot X on a given Sunday with the line as it is, when are they going to get on the field?

I anticipate next year we are going to acquire an OL or two in FA and the draft, I hope that these current players are still in the mix and improving with another offseason, but I am beginning to be concerned that these guys are NFL -not for long.

I thought morris was lined up on the other side of the formation. Freddy D never even looked at him. I know Morris came over from the other side to no avail but it was a DB coming free.

On that blind side sack they called a transparent play action after 2 long runs by Morris.

Morris was on the other side, and crossed to try and get to the DB and whiffed. Meanwhile somebody else was coming up the middle. Coming from where he was he had a better shot a picking up the guy coming up the middle. The two defensive players met at RGIII. While he couldn't have gotten both, he should've picked up the guy in the middle so he at least blocked someone.

When Beck got sacked ten times against Buffalo last season it wasn't the line's fault. That sack today that knocked Griffin out wasn't the line's fault either. Griffin had enough protection throughout the day and Morris was absolutely gashing the Atlanta defense. Our line isn't great but it doesn't suck nearly as bad as some of you suggest.

Pass protection is bad Henry, no matter how you want to dress it up. They have been doing well on the run, but it helps to have an RB with great vision.

Yes, it's bad but we have a QB who should be able to mitigate that without getting hit like he did today. Neither our game plan nor our line today was getting him killed out there.

I disagree, he runs because he doesnt have time in the pocket. we dont pick up blitzes and frankly our line is atrocius, the rare holes we do get often come from overpursuit not from outstanding blocking (that is the only god thing about our scheme lol) its a myth that mobile qbs help bad lines, it seems logical that they would, but mobile qbs get sacked more than standup pocket guys

YES. Everyone on earth saw it coming. I called it before it happened sitting on my couch.

I'm with you here. Everyone who is saying our OL is good because of how well Morris is running just take a look at a 5 step drop and count how long Griffin has to throw the ball. Then look at Matt Ryan's 5-7 step drops and see how much time he has. Worlds apart. Our OL is abysmal in pass pro. I'm glad the run blocking is getting there and that the "scheme" seems to help the pass pro out but lets not kid ourselves because Morris had a good stat line.

You couldn't be more wrong here.

Yeah, their pass-protection is horrible. I shudder to think what is going to happen when we play the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants...
