so where do we stand?

realizing you can't fix every problem in one year...here are my uncertainties:

1) O-line
- line-up (will this be another learning year given personnel changes)
- back-up depth
- ability of Brown to perform to a higher level

2) Inside Linbacker
- is Lorenzo the guy to replace Mcintosh? can he cover in space and blitz any better?

3) Nose tackle
- nothing new here

4) QB
- the real long-term liability for this team
- when does this get fixed and how?
- do I really have to watch Rex this season?

5) Wideout
- will this corps be any better than last year's? (hard to answer since given QB limitations)

6) Pass Rush
- will the d-line signees improve the pressure from the line?

7) father/Son Coordination
- will the Shanahans mesh their pass/run preferences

others?

I think you got em' all.

As to the O-line: I want to see how they look about mid season. Barring major injury of some sort we'll know what we have by that point.

I would add Special Teams to that list.

- Kicker, do we stick with Gano and will he improve?
- Who punts?
- Banks, real deal or one year wonder?

yea....missed those. agree.

since we're in this discussion...what's the real reason for moving Sellars to TE? What twist is Shanahan working here?

I hope Gano can be the kicker he was at FSU.

Rocca? Ugh! Just as long as we see improvement over Palescu and all the other bums we've had.

I think/hope Banks is gone. Who doesn't love his explosiveness? But who wants to see him continue to get injured (with his size he will) and continue to fumble the ball.

Considering a last minute trade for Cooley?

If I had to guess, I would say it is about giving Mike something to do in order to keep him around without his being in the way of DY getting the reps as the starting FB. If Young can do it, Sellers might be out and if Young can't do it, we still have Sellers available.

Actually, the o-line is going to look pretty similar. As of right now, the line will be Williams, Lichten.., Monty, Chester, and Brown. The only difference is the addition of Chester, and we are allowing Monty to start. Monty did better than Rabach last year when he played. I think the line will be better with the upgrade at center. But, that may not be saying much. Not sure about Chester, the jury is out.

I've also thought about the Sellers situation. First thing I thought of was trading Cooley. Wouldn't bother me a bit. He is still a good player, but Davis is younger, faster, and is in the last year of his contract. I would like to see Davis re-sign, but he won't if he does not get a chance to start.

I think Cooley is at that age where the party animal's body starts to break down. Look at Shockey. Known partier and body started to give out. Giants got rid of him at the right time. At 31 years old, Shockey is not the same player anymore. If Cooley took care of himself the way Tony Gonzalez does, I think it would be crazy to discuss trading him.

With that said, I don't think Cooley is going out the door. Not this year, maybe next. Honestly, we wouldn't get much for him. The Panthers just gave up a 3rd pick for Greg Olson. What does that mean about Cooley's worth?

I think Sellers is on his way out the door if Young steps up and plays FB solidly in the pre-season. I think this is all up to Young. We will see what he can give us in these four games, and then bye bye Sellers. We will get even younger!

Honestly, I say good riddance to Sellers. I don't think he has played all that well the last two years. I think his stock with the fans is inflated because he is a beast when he catches the ball out of the backfield.

No way! Sellers to TE is a desperation move by Sellers himself. He knows he'll be cut unless he can bring something else to the table. Probably not enough anyway.

The only way Cooley would be trade bait is if Fred Davis had shown last year that he was ready at 25 to take over from Chris as the #1 TE.

He failed to do that.

I am not saying Sellers is the answer at TE if Cooley is traded. I am just curious about the new TE's we have brought in. I know they are UDFA's, but wouldn't it make more sense to bring in offensive lineman instead? I got a feeling they are testing Sellers there just to see, not with the intention to replace. But the acquisition of 2 more TE's when that is one position we really don't have a need, makes me wonder.

I think it's a big to-do over nothing. Sellers at 36 is a poor bet to be kept on a younger roster where the coaches know 2011 is about learning to play together and growing as a team. If the Redskins were pegged to be a contender I could more readily see him making the team in the dual role.
