Redskins vs Titans Discussion Thread!

Yeah, if White can out perform Rex again, it might be his last snap as a redskin.

I'd also lean to White over Grossman. He's five years younger, and may have a future.

But most of the people I read seem to believe that Rex is a lock. They cite the scenario that if both RG3 and Cousins went down for some reason, and we needed a QB to step in and start immediately, that the coaching staff would prefer Rex due to his experience. I can see that point, but I would keep White.

I think the White/Grossman thing is tough but for me ultimately it comes down to what these guys can give your team as backups running the opposing O.

If we are down to our 3rd string QB we're in trouble anyway so I'm not sure how much difference it makes who the choice is in terms of that guy actually having to come in and play. But White brings a lot more to the table for our practice sessions against the pistol formation with a read option attack like Seattle or SF or whomever else throws it at us. Grossman looked like he always does, flashes of brilliance interspersed with "bad Rex". At this stage given the state of our offense and the experience level of our top 2 guys, I'd prefer a guy at 3rd string who can give us more options and actually help our team prepare for the read option attack.

If the current trend for White continues and he keeps getting better then it seems that he is seriously benefiting from the Shanahan's tutelage and given his talent I would expect that to continue. Miami obviously didn't know WTF to do with him.

It's unreal how amazing it feels to have quality coaching back here again.

I can not believe we're having this discussion about how much (legit) value our third string QB offers.

Mike and Mike took a call this morning from someone who pointed out that Peter King tweeted last Friday that we might be able to get a First Rounder pick for Cousins next off season because the QB draft class is really ****ty, or at least that's how it looks now. The caller wanted to know if they thought we should trade Cousins now, and go with White and Butterball.

I almost threw things, but decided to do an extra 15 minutes of cardio to work off my rage.

Cut Sexy, keep White and develop him behind Griff, with the goal of having him ready to be second string next year when we trade Capt Kirk for a First Rounder.

Rex is done before the start of the season if White has another performance playing against a 2nd team, perhaps 1st team, defense that is even remotely close to the one he had the other night .

There is a very valid reason for Rex to still be around during pre-season, he knows the offense is just part of it. He gives the 2nd and 3rd string players a guy who is capable of leading this offense without major hiccups. If you noticed the other night, he did horribly against the 1st string Titans defense after Cousins left, but by the end of the 2nd quarter he put together a very solid drive that led to a TD. That was with many of our 2nd string OL and younger receivers. That is valuable for a young player who is looking toward their QB to lead them. Not that Cousins couldn't and it appears maybe Pat White can, but we know what Rex can do...and he was solid enough in a few drives against lesser opponents giving the younger guys a chance to concentrate on their responsibilities and not whether their QB will **** up the play. Look at Geno Smith in NY for example of how a young 2nd string QB is not faring well and damaging the opportunity for some younger players to step up because he can't get the plays off correctly.

I know that sounds like a glowing compliment for Rex, but it's not. He's solid enough to give experience behind for the 2nd and 3rd string players against 2nd and 3rd string players. We didn't know that Pat White had that. We'll see how White performs with more time behind center against better than 3rd string players on a so-so team. Rex, while showing more Rexiness, does give a veteran presence to some younger players who may not have that chance with an unknown behind center like a Geno Smith while giving a proven commodity like Kirk Cousins the opportunity to sit.

Yeah, a lot of boneheads are talking Cousins, Griff, White.

Anywhere from trading Cousins now to minimizing the value of Griff, should have kept all of the first rounders and drafted Wilson/Kirk instead.

Hindsight seems to be the only perspective some of these jokers have, Shanny must be lovin' it, this is validation of the move
that these same guys were so highly critical of. (not that Shanny gives a flat **** but I'll bet there's a grin in there somewhere)

We now have one of the best QB situations in the league and way too many folks want to break it up.

I could see White rather than Rex but as said we're talkin' third string here

Tom...I don't know if folks want to break it up. I think they are more along the lines of "we gave up 3 first rounders and had to deal with two years of cap penalties. let's get back some of that missed opportunity." bottom line: if Cousins continues to do well, unless the team decides to franchise their second team QB, he's gone after year 4.

If Griffin is the franchise QB, which I think pretty much everyone thinks he is, then you have to use your 2nd qb spot for a backup that can play when needed and otherwise groom into a tradable commodity.

Cousins needs to be traded, just not this year. I would have liked to see them draft another QB late to try to work on as a 3rd QB this year, but maybe that's pat white. It'd be nice if at the end of the year (assuming Griffin is healthy) we could trade Cousins for something valuable to us (player and/or pick) and still have a decent backup in White.

I'm not sold White is capable of being that guy. I guess you can wait until after next season, not sure how Cousins being in the last year would help/hurt as trade bait.

Oh I agree, was trying to point out that folks want to trade Kirk now rather than later which to me is too soon, let's see how Robert gets through the year before considering a viable trade offer for Kirk.
