Redskins vs Titans Discussion Thread!

For the TD run? Or in general? Most articles I've seen mention him in the 'good' column, outside of the CJ TD. He generated a lot of good pass-rush.

In general.

Though they say the td run is a glaring example of his biggest weakness.

I enjoy my teams more when I don't listen to talking heads yapping about them all day.

If Pat White can replicate last night's performance, or even get close next week, I will happily admit to being DEAD wrong about that signing.

A few things stand out about the game for me. I had a friend remind me about Chris Johnson so I am less inclined now to point out our lack of run D, but that doesn't explain why their 2nd string RB churned off some chunks against our DL. We need to do something to stop the run, our DL looked suspect...as expected, I guess.

I was impressed with Amerson, for a 2nd round pick I can see him starting at CB to start the season. Minnifield looked pretty solid too. Rambo looked like a rookie. No problem with that, but he needs to make up for it over the next couple of games. Just when I thought Gomes was done on a terrible play last night, he came back with a few solid plays to make me think he's not ready to be cut...yet.

Rak looked like a man possessed...but he looked the same in pre-season last year. I hope he can stay healthy!

Our Pass Pro sucks! If Cousins wasn't quick enough to step back, get the read and deliver as fast as he does, he would have looked like Rex last night. Instead, he looks like a very comfortable NFL QB in spite of the pressure being put on him. I gotta hand it to the Shanny's, they call a game plan that gets the receivers open quick enough to hide the poor pass pro we have. Rex? Well, he shows how bad our pass pro is. When given time, he delivered some pretty passes, had a nice drive in the 2nd quarter stall because pass pro sucked and he isn't good enough to step back, get his reads in and deliver the ball like Capt Kirk did.

McRib, LeRiebus, looked awful last night. Unless this kid steps up, we could be looking at a 3rd round bust!

As for Pat White, I wasn't sure what to expect after hearing all I had about him being behind in camp. That kid looked good! Piggy backing on Terry's assertion, I don't see Pat White going anywhere. I think he ends up 3rd string behind Cousins through this season to see how Bob comes along and when we maximize the value for Cousins at the end of the season, Pat WHite steps up to #2. I know, I know...it's only one pre-season game, but he looked too comfortable in that offense last night. Cousins is good enough we don't need to maintain the Pistol to keep things going when he goes in, but White looks like a natural fit for the Pistol...if nothing more than to backup Bob. And Terry, he is not as crisp with his passes as Bob, but Pat White had a couple of lasers in tight coverage down the middle of the field, but an absolute beautiful throw out on the sideline for a completion. I was impressed.

As for our 3rd string offense, most of the receivers were 50/50...for every one good catch it looked like they had a bad one. I was not as impressed with Aldrick Robinson last night as I'd hoped. He had one drop that was simply rookie stuff.

Oh...and I would hate to have to decide who our RB's are going to be. Evan Royster was not lying down to the solid performance from Helu. He had a solid outing last night. It looks like it's up to Chris Thompson to get on the field and make an impression if he wants to unseat Royster or Helu.

I've watched the game twice now, and am very happy with where we're at. Minnifield and Helu made me the happiest. Minnifield could be huge for us.

On the negative side, only three things stood out to me:

Our run defense seemed absent. But it's only the first preseason game. They'll improve.

Orakpo continues to bring back memories of Lavar. Not that talented, too hyper and out of position.

Rambo made Madieu Williams look like Sean Taylor. I say that jokingly....kind of.

I got to watch most of the second half last night... didn't watch it live was working.... Did Royster seem to have an extra burst in his step or was it just me? He hit the hole with authority several times, his holes didn't seem as big as Roy's at times though.

Am hoping that Hankerson can get to the next level this year. At times he seems to play with a lack of passion.

Minnefield had a couple of good plays.

Run D was atrocious. I stand by my assertion that ILB and NT are big time needs. Will need to consider that in the offseason next year.

White surprised me - maybe a work in progress?

Cousins looks like a starter to me. Makes me more angry we didn't see him come in earlier to protect the win vs. the Seahawks.

I've been saying it over and over. Minnifield is a 1st round talent. Only re-injury will keep him out of the eventual starting corner slot.

So far it seems you've been nothing but right. Easy to root for that kid after what he's gone through!

His first play 3rd & 8 for 6 yards I think pretty much showed what I have felt about him all along. However, when the endzone was in his sights he gritted it out and went airborne. :whoknows:

Only time will tell. :( I just hope that Robinson doesn't get cut for Hankerson and then blow up somewhere else while Hankerson continues to underwhelm. That's my fear with that group. Also that Stallworth and Henderson make the team... that's more like a nightmare!

Anybody else hear Sonny compare Skye Dawson to Banks? You know because he couldn't gain any yards or something along those lines.

I was really impressed. His passes were sharp and he demonstrated a lot of mobility. Pat darted out of bounds on two long runs before the defenders could hit him - smart moves. He scrambled for what seemed like an eternity on the two point conversion - that entire play was on him.

Suddenly, I have dreams of two or three times a game when White comes in at QB and Griff lines up in the slot or the outside. Or we could have Cousins come in at QB and have Griff and White in the slot or outside. It's intriguing.

Feral feline? Sounds intriguing but I think the NFL teams mostly have that figured out defensively-unless Shanny came up with a bizarre new wrinkle-which wouldn't surprise me all that much actually.

I think Hankerson and Robinson are both locks to make the final 53.

First off great post El, lots of good info to digest. That's kinda troubling to hear about Lerib, tho it is first game of preseason. Still makes ya wonder if he's got "IT" or not. Was he missing assignments, getting bullied or combo of the 2?

Watched the game again last night and he continually got pushed around oat the point of attack. He was solid enough in the run game, but still didn't appear remotely close enough to unseat Lichtensteiger for the starting position.

Besides Trent I just don't like the way Shan picks linemen for this system. Both lines are our only glaring weaknesses IMHO after he hit secondary up in April. We're decent to solid everywhere else.

Edit: Shoulda clarified that backups and RT are what's worrying me for the O and d-line is pretty meh with minimal depth. Fingers crossed no u know what's any where to either.

Losing both Carriker and Jenkins has a lot to do with that

Would like to see Minniefield start one of the next two games to get a better indication of where he stands. It's obvious he's on the bubble. It "appears" that Hall, Wilson and Amerson have three spots locked up so it boils down to Biggers, Crawford and Minniefield for the remaining spot(s).

Edit: Looks like he did get some work against the Titans starters. Hope that continues.

Grossman would be cut right after the game if i was coach.

funny you should bring this up :)

I was musing the other day: it's been several years.

"he knows the offense" doesn't cut it anymore
- the offense has changed
- RGIII no longer needs rex's insights

why is this kitty cat on the roster? what hold does he have over Kyle? I just don't see it from a talent or team needs perspective.

Yeah, if White can out perform Rex again, it might be his last snap as a redskin.
