O.K., preseason game #2-Da Bears. There wasn't a whole lot of discussion of the upcoming preseason game with the Redskins but I did find a few...

I think the Bears and the Skins are in fairly similar spots. Haven't heard too much about the Bears from the national media, except that people think the combination of Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler may reignite both their careers. Not super high expectations for either team for year, I don't think.

The Bears are further along than we are. They started out 7-3 before Cutler went down and ended their season. I would think they are thinking playoffs and maybe even a deep run, despite being in the toughest division in football. We're thinking about not being in last place maybe.

I do like that they think so highly of our defense. Our front seven is going to be what we hang our hats on this year and if other teams' fans are noticing it already, that's a good sign.

Anyway, thanks for doing this Serv. This is one of my favorite weekly installments on this board.

Yeah, I didn't phrase that well. I meant with all the injuries (Cutler especially, though Forte seems to be a risk as well) people don't seem to be expecting as much from them.

Disagree Henry, I think we're about even with the Bears also. The Bears were a couple terrible calls and bad bounces away from 7-9 or 8-8 two years ago, so 8-8 last year was right around where I thought they should be. Seriously...they were the luckiest conference champ of all time; they only won their division due to two horrendous calls against the Lions. They got the 2-14 Seahawks in their first game b/c the Saints can't play outdoors and NFL playoff seeding rules are stupid, then they lost to the rightful division champs in the NFCCG, as it should be.

Lanky, over the past seven years the Bears have had four winning seasons and two losing seasons, both 7-9.

Over that same span we've had two winning seasons and four losing seasons, all worse than 7-9. In the past three years the Redskins have been at least three games worse than the Bears every year. There's nothing flukey about that.

Now you may think the Bears are over-rated, and maybe they are, but we are nowhere NEAR their weight class yet.

Goal, thanks for clarifying. That's fair.

I'm just saying we're a lot closer to them than you make it. Head-to-head results over the past few years support that as well. The NFC East is serious business!
