REDSKINS PLACE COOLEY, HIGHTOWER ON RESERVE/INJURED LIST

ASHBURN, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have placed tight end Chris Cooley and running back Tim Hightower on the Reserve/Injured list.
Cooley (6-3, 255) was in his eighth season, all as a member of the Redskins. Selected by the Redskins out of Utah State in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft (81st overall), he has amassed 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns in his 108-game NFL career. This season, Cooley surpassed Jerry Smith to become the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions by a tight end, and his 428 career receptions rank 18th all-time among NFL tight ends.

Cooley ranks fifth in team history in receptions and ninth in both receiving yardage and touchdowns among all Redskins players. He holds five of the top six single-season reception totals by a tight end in franchise annals, led by his 83-catch, 849-yard performance in 2008. Cooley made Pro Bowl appearances in both 2008 and 2009.

Earlier in the month, Dr. Jeffrey Lovallo performed surgery on a broken hand suffered by Cooley in the Redskins’ Week 6 game against Philadelphia.

Hightower (6-0, 222) was in his fourth season and his first as a member of the Redskins after being acquired from Arizona via trade during training camp. He started in five of six games in which he participated during the 2011 season. Through six games in 2011, Hightower led the Redskins in carries (84) and rushing yards (321) and led the Redskins’ running backs in pass receptions (10), receiving yards (78) and receiving touchdowns (one) as well.
