Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan

Opening statement:
“That was a tough one to lose. We had some opportunities to put the game away. We didn’t. We had some missed opportunities, and you can’t do that and beat a football team, so it’s disappointing again coming close but not finishing.”

On chains being moved on the final drive:
“Well, I said I wanted a measurement. He said, 'You don’t have to, it’s a first down.’ I saw it was a first down on the other side, and he signaled to move the chains on our side. I asked him if it was fourth down. He said he already told me it was a first down and I wanted a measurement. Anyway, that was disappointing.”

On the official telling him it was a first down:
“I told him I wanted a measurement, because I knew it was close. It was inches, and he said, 'No, it’s a first down.’ He moved the chains. Then, after I saw it was fourth down, I asked him, 'You already told me it was first down.’ That was quite disappointing.”

On if it affected the play call:
“Well, anytime you have a sequence of plays, you’re not going to call a quick hitch on fourth and inches. So obviously, it’s going to affect our play call.”

On the challenge of the spot on the Giants’ last drive:
“We couldn’t get a replay quick enough. They were at the line of scrimmage. We had different viewpoints from upstairs. That’s why we threw it, because we thought they were going to snap the ball. We thought they were fumbling it. You could see very quickly once we got to the replay that it was a catch, so it was a bad decision.”

On if there was a reason running back Alfred Morris saw fewer carries in the second half:
“Not particularly. We just had a lot of three-and-outs. We had three three-and-outs and one four-and-out. We got in a little passing situation in the end.”

On wide receiver Pierre Garçon kicking the ball:
“It was frustration. You can’t lose your poise. That was disappointing. We have some competitors out there in Pierre. We had the opportunity to get that ball in the end zone for a touchdown and Pierre got a little upset, so you have to keep your poise in those situations, and we lost it a couple of times.”

On punter Sav Rocca fielding a low snap:
“I thought he did a heck of a job to get the punt off. Anytime you roll it like that… it was a bad snap. Kyle’s [Nelson] done a good job for us, and for some reason he didn’t make the snap on that play.”

On Morris not having a lot of carries:
“Well, he had 11 carries in the first half and he was averaging about a yard-and-a-half a carry. That’s one reason why you probably go away from it a little bit more.”

On if teams are defending the run differently:
“Yes, people are going to do what they can do to stop our running game. Sometimes, you’ll can the running back, sometimes the fullback and sometimes the quarterback. Either way, we’ve got to be more effective.”

On the rhythm of the game:
“I was disappointed. We had a couple good drives in there, and you have to maintain. You can’t stop yourselves. We had some penalties. We had some dropped balls. We had a couple of missed assignments. You combine all those things and that’s how you lose a football game.”

On Morris’ opportunities:
“A lot has to do with third downs. If you don’t get the opportunity to have a bunch of plays and then it’s second down, you don’t have the opportunity to run that many plays. We’ve talked about this a number of times. You have to make third downs. We didn’t make many, and then in the second half I think in the first drive, even though we went 50 yards, I think we had 30 yards in penalties. Then, you get a couple three plays and outs. Then there’s a couple of situations where you have some penalties, and you’re in long-yard situations trying to get a first down, so that’s why you don’t get a number of carries.”

On being knocked out of playoff contention:
“It’s disappointing. That’s what you are playing for. That’s the one reason you play this game – to get to the playoffs. It gives you an opportunity to reach your goal. When you are out of it, it’s very disappointing. Now, you find out how guys step up and play the remainder of the season. You don’t like to play for pride, but sometimes that’s the card that is dealt. That’s where we’re at right now, and we’ll see which guys step up and play at a high level for the remaining games.”

On how he keeps quarterback Robert Griffin III’s morale up:
“It’s not one guy specifically. It’s everybody on your football team. It’s not about one guy, it’s about the team. Everybody is disappointed. You try to work to win a football game, and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

On tight end Jordan Reed:
“Before the game, he had a headache. Once he had a headache pre-game, we could not go in that direction.”

On safety Reed Doughty:
“They are going to go through the tests again for a concussion. We’ll find out here in the next couple of days exactly where he is at.”

On if the protocol is different since Doughty’s concussion against Chicago:
“I’m not sure at this point, but I will check with the doctor and find out.”

On cornerback DeAngelo Hall:
“He has a sore hip. Right now, I’m not sure exactly how bad it is. I knew it was sore, and he missed a couple of days. Hopefully he will be back, but I don’t know for sure.”

On linebacker London Fletcher:
“He had an ankle in there. He looked like he sprained it pretty good. How bad, I can’t tell you at this time. Again, it will take a couple of days to find out exactly where he is at.”
