PFT: Redskins still not ready to yield in cap fight

Their reported plan to file a lawsuit that could delay the start of free agency ended up being a bluff.* But when it comes to pursuing a return of their $36 million in stolen cap space, the Redskins aren’t ready to yield. While it’s unclear whether the Redskins will pull the pin on a litigation…

I am just hoping the bluff about holding up the start of free agency was just a smoke screen for the real nuclear threat about to happen at the meetings next week. The problem is by then we could already have lost out on a chance for a few players throughout the week during the start of free agency.

Waiting until the meetings definitely takes away the leverage of holding up free agency and could cause even more ill will with the other owners because they could see it as grandstanding.

I suppose a final appeal to the other owners before going nuclear MIGHT be the best way to go but since they voted WITH Goodell last year, I just don't see them willing to change their mind. I say screw 'em. It's time for our FO to either **** or get off the pot.

If the other owners plotted to bury us when we were 4-12 and 6-10 what will make them reconsider now that we just finished 10-6 with a playoff appearance?

I don't think this goes ANYWHERE unless Snyder decides to blow it up. And I think everyone knows that. I regret that with the progress we've been making, blowing it up has to take the back seat now that we seem to be a ship sailing to a destination instead of just aimlessly bouncing around at sea.

I think the Redskins are howling at the moon - when push comes to shove, they'll take their medicine and move on. Would love to find I'm wrong, but I don't see any evidence Snyder has the balls to really 'go nuclear'. I'm sure someone could make a reasonable argument that he's playing this smart, but I don't see what the Redskins have to lose screaming bloody murder (although it would have been more effective to go there early, vs. waiting 6 months to make a federal case about it - not sure why we've let all that time go by before throwing whatever fit we have planned?).

The ONLY argument I've been able to come up with is his fear of retaliation down the road, and in that sense, the fear of the unknown. NFL Owners have proven to be a retaliatory group, and petty as well. Given that Snyder and Jones generate a HUGE part of the revenue sharing that Jax and Cin depend on (and others), you would think they would be a bit more... nice to Snyder. But they appear willing to **** all over the enormous revenue stream the Redskins provide. If they didn't stand up for him with this, they certainly won't stand up for him at his next transgression. An argument could be made that it is better for him to take his medicine, put on a good face and smile at his tormentors.

Should he go that route, I can only count the days until Mara ****s up. And then I hope Dan is still smiling while he bends Mara over and ****s the **** out of him.

I think many of us are easy to forget all the massive payments to FAs and coaches that continually drove the market up over the past 12yrs. This upset all of the small market teams and a good deal of the remaining teams too. Thats prolly why that smug prick Mara declared we were "lucky" to not lose draft picks. I don't think its just Mara as many do I think he just had the balls to start talking when he shouldnt have.

Yeah, I get all that. But there's a big part of me that would like to remind all those asshats that the Cowboys and the Redskins provide an assload of the revenue for the revenue sharing, and without Danny and Jerruh, they wouldn't have nearly as much money as they do.

The more I think about this, the more it reminds me a good ole boy network, and Danny has continually stepped out of line (in their minds) so this was an opportunity to remind him that he needs to bend to their will. God, that pisses me off. With my temper, I would probably go nuclear and fight that battle. Don't know if it's best or not, but I probably would.

We'll see how Danny handles it.

Lot of great points guys...will be interesting to see if the Redskins (ie..Snyder) got quietly into this good night. Or go the other way :)

Man i'd love the Dan going into that owners meeting , going straight for Mara's table and say something like "You ****ing cockaroach..you really want to **** with me", in Tony Montana voice.

i figure the longer the team waits tho the more nada's gonna happen with it. Have NO idea what the hell could be going on "behind the scenes" but can't be much tho. Mara will get his one day, karma is funny like that.

Would really LOVE for Goodell and Mara to say hello to Tony's "little friend". I'd dance a jig on BOTH those bastard's graves.

why would they wait until now to act?

Something I've been thinking about as well...makes me think it really is all a big bluff. With something like this, timing is of the essence. Waiting until now is just silly.

They need to stop letting their estrogen get the better of them.

Man Up Shanny & Co.

So it was a bluff?

For ****s sake either do something about it or let it go away. What is to be gained by constantly bringing it up every 3 months with some dumb PR move/statement?

You'd have this issue even if you didn't restructure Haynesworth and Hall. So either do something about it or stop whining about how it hurts your ability to sign players and figure out how to get people in here.

1 more year of being plagued by Cerrato then we can all finally move on. 4 years to move on from what that worthless POS did to the franchise.

So is the Press Conference that they announced today part of this whole cap battle bluff delay free agency thing? I saw on twitter this is the first time (since Shanny hire) that a press conference is being held with Shanny and Allen. Sounds important?

Not sure...there is a small part of me that thinks something is going on with Allen, and he has to step down for awhile (hence the AJ Smith hiring). Health reasons, personal reasons, whatever.

Highly unlikely, just a nagging suspicion I have.

Oh God, Hush that mouth! That would be a disaster!:bomb:

Haha... nice try. I don't like this answer, someone else please?
