PFT: ESPN commentator on RG3: “He’s kind of black, but he’s not really”

As much as I deplore Parker's comments, I actually am even more disgusted with the seemingly overt "Racial controversy" driven programming that ESPN seems to sanction.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out because if Parker gets canned (and I do think he should due to this and his past of these things as well) how does ESPN rationalize the fact that they replayed the whole episode as one of their "best of's".

The whole network sucks and needs a new schtick.

Well it's funny because the video has been pulled from their site (unless I just can't find it)

All of which I included in my complaint to them. ESPN and Parker can't just apologize for this - his twitter feed indicates he meant every single word he said, and ESPN categorized it as 'best of'...

I hope its a lesson learned

But i doubt it will be.

Yep. This idiot probably thinks he was suspended for speaking the truth. He is more than likely incredibly defensive about it and unable to process any mistake.

As has been said, anytime Stephen A Smith thinks you've gone too far...

E.B. from the Sports Junkies brought up a point, and the more i think about it.. the more it makes too much sense.

He threw out the notion that ESPN put Parker up to this, because they knew this would happen.... they would then suspend him for a period of time and it would blow over. How else can you explain them replaying it, as well as him using ESPN in his twitter battles against people, and them only suspending him "until further notice."

It's a win/win for them.... ESPN has been getting TONS of attention from this, and you know they dont have a legit competitor, so it's not like people can just stop watching and shut them down. They make it LOOK like they're taking action, and they've now gained the 'respect' of a lot of the fanbase... conspiracy theory? Maybe... but think about it.

It's a good theory, which is why it included in my complaint that I will no longer watch ESPN, use espn.com, or listen to ESPN radio if something isn't done.

You just have to be willing to boycott ESPN if this is that offensive to you.

The other issue is advertisers... we haven't heard if any of them called ESPN and asked them WTF they're doing...

Maybe Parker should say Tom Brady isn't white enough and is a wigger. Then he can work on making everyone mad. Parker is an idiot and he is hearing this from numerous sources. Heard Tony Dungy ripped him.

When I see RG3 I see the QB of my Redskins. Don't see a white or black issue. In the end all that matters to me is he is my QB.

I don't know if ESPN planned to suspend him or whatever, but I do think they put him up to it. He probably butchered his position but in my opinion ESPN does have something to do with this, and it makes them very ugly.

Of course ESPN put him up to this. Does anyone honestly think these segments are not 100% produced, down to the discussion points? ESPN people constantly throw out these controversial opinions - its clearly encouraged by them.

I'm definitely in the "ESPN Put him up to it" camp. They love shockjocking and I'm done with their crap. I'll gladly miss the few skins games they televise and boycott them.

I'm not a big fan of firing people because they said something stupid. People make mistakes, and just because an idiotic statement was directed towards a guy we love, doesn't necessarily mean someone should be fired for it. I get the impulse, but that kind of overreaction is why I hate how far political correctness has taken us as a society.

Boone, this same guy was guilty of creating a story about Kirk Cousins while he was at Michigan State...then was proven to have created the story. Sound like the kind of guy who should be given another chance?

arian foster ftw>

I find it really funny that Rush who is an asshat, was treated far worse for saying something that was not only true, but far less retarded than questioning Rg3's blackness.

as I recall he said that Mcnabb was overrated becase the media really wanted to push a black QB, which at least at the time, was an arguable point, now this asshat says a man isnt black because his fiancee isnt black? does he even watch the NBA? are any of those brothers who have white or hispanic wives, black?

Thought about this during lunch. I figured out what color I think of when see RG3. Green. Reason is the guy is money leading our offense.

First of all, I thought Limbaugh's statement was race-baiting nonsense. I don't see it as any less, uh, incendiary than what Parker said. If you want to start a thread about that in the PA I'll be happy to jump in.

Secondly, Limbaugh resigned three days later. Parker said what he did one day ago. Maybe wait a few days and see what happens before making any judgements about who's being treated worse?
