NFL.com News: Michael Vick winning Philadelphia Eagles' QB battle

Nick Foles and Michael Vick both had strong outings Thursday night. But Vick's performance was better, and it appears he has taken the lead in the Philadelphia Eagles' QB competition.

I really really hope Vick does win the job because ultimately I don't think he's a winner. He won't be able to stay healthy anyway bit I think the longer we can keep Foles off the field the better.

I really don't understand how NFL FO/Coaches don't see this...

Vick is exciting, sells tickets and jerseys. He's not a winner, but he's exciting.

How much speed has Vick lost, due to age and injury ?
Doesn't really matter. He's athletic but at his age he should be smarter than he is. This game showed him carrying the ball like a loaf of bread yet again and taking another head-first dive after a first down run.

He'll never make 16 games and should be used as a training video every time he steps on the field for guys like, Griffin, Koppernickel(sp?), Wilson, Newton, etc...

Vick is also a clear cut example of what wasting talent can do, if he had even attempted to apply himself early in his career who knows what might've been

Honestly Chip Kelly would be stupid to NOT go with Vick and here's why.

This is a new scheme that is going to take getting used to... not only for skill positions, but for the O-line as well. Vick's athleticism is going to come into play, not if but, when the pocket breaks down. If Kelly is smart, he'll ride Vick for a year or two and turn it over to Bradley when he's ready.

I get what you're arguing ST. But the truth is, he may not have the luxury of a couple years to show his 'system' will work in the NFL. Vick's arguable (and at this point, I do mean arguable) advantage in terms of physical gifts may not be enough to overcome his general carelessness with the ball and highly questionable durability.

You can make the argument you're making. But you can also make a strong case that Vick is a coach killer, especially for a high-risk first time NFL head coach like Chip Kelly.

Going with a player who likely can actually understand and carry out the game plan might be the more prudent course of action for a coach trying to break into the NFL amidst a lot of skepticism.

Thats very true.. but obviously the Eagles have shown they're not going to pull the plug on a coach in a knee jerk reaction.. Andy Reid was the longest tenured coach in the NFL when he left if I'm not mistaken. I also agree with you that physically he's not what he once was, but with your response to Foles being more able to adapt to the offense, this offense is built on tempo and speed.. something Foles isn't exactly strong at.

Plus this gives Kelly an out... After this season, if the offense struggles, pulling the plug on Vick will buy Kelly more time. Maybe i'm a conspiracy theorist, but we have all seen (Shanahan) how a coach can find extra years to build his team.... This screams of a similar situation with McNabb/Grossman. McNabb was thought to be able to get the edge on the boots better then Grossman...

Uh, yeah. But Chip Kelly is no Andy Reid.

I hear you. But Foles can at least grasp an offense and carry it out. I guess what I'm saying is, give me a bright QB who will do what you tell him to do over an athletic as hell, injury prone knucklehead any day of the week. If Kelly can turn Vick into a reliable QB, they should sign him to a 10 year extension. I'm just not a believer.

This could prove true...but if Kelly is counting on it, he's on thin ice. My guess is that the Eagles have an 3-5 win season and go QB in the first round in 2014.

If Chip goes with Vick (some alliteration there), then the former is on a short leash to prove himself in the NFL. If he goes with Foles, then it probably shows patience and a willingness to be in it for the long term. That could be an inaccurate assessment in Philly, but the fan base there is about as tough and impatient as it gets.

Dont forget they drafted Matt Bradley...

Do you mean Barkley, or is there something about calling him Bradley?

No, it's Barkley, I messed up.... Matt Bradley used to be my favorite player for the Caps lol

Just looked, i made that same mistake in the earlier thread... my bad lol

The giants and iggles both went QB in the 4th, because its a copycat league. They're hoping to draft another Cousins. Nassib and Barkley are no captain Kirk.

Edit: Matt Bradley was awesome!

My opinion, but if Barkley is ready you start him. If he's not you start Vick.

Foles is some other coach's project. He's not really part of the equation. If this team is in full rebuild you either start The Future or The Placeholder. Foles is neither of those. I suspect if it's even close between Vick and Foles it'll be Vick.
