Maske - Redskins said to be intent on signing Brian Orakpo to extension

Do you ever look at these stats when you post them? They're rarely formatted any better than lsfihdobvdojvdnovdjnvdoiincwppkcnnpcon vdwoivdwovijvoidvoivdhh eouvheoviuhhvoibvdeoiunvd wvqoihvwdoiinhdvwvd685vw468dvw4++6dv84vwd vwdpvwdnovjdwodwnvwdvd46vd56vd54vd.

Jus' sayin. :redface2:

There is a format you can use, so that it duplicates the way those columns appear in those original stat lists.
I used to know what it was, but I forgot.
Anybody know ?

Franchising normally pisses off the player though. If you're interested in a long term relationship with the player it's probably not a good idea.

If you're just trying to force him to play one more year it works.

That's just my understanding though.

Its kind of a lose-lose for everyone - the franchise deals are by no means cap-friendly (average of the top 5 players at that position, all guaranteed, all on that year's cap) so the team loses. And the player wants a long-term deal with more guaranteed $$$ to ensure he gets paid even if he's injured, so the player loses. Its a last resort.

I think because of the Mara BS cap limit we can't do this until after the season unless Brian would agree to a new deal with zero signing bonus. Even if we keep his numbers the same for this year, that portion of the signing bonus has to slide in. I suppose we could offer him a deal which would give him much less money this year so that the signing bonus makes it net even or possibly a cap savings, but my guess is that kind of offer isn't going to give Orakpo what he wants because you are only allowed to raise the salary by x percent each year.

Thats a good point Burg, even if we do have the means this season, the cap hit definitely is a major part of the equation.

It's not paying players full value when they are worth it that has gotten this team in trouble in recent years, but in prematurely extending or signing guys for what we hope they will produce.

Rak needs to show that he can stay on the field and be a durable, consistently productive player.

He has had some issues with his rush moves being predictable and outside of Dallas has struggles at times against the Giants and Eagles fronts.

Also, this injury has an effect on his ability in the run game, which was a weakness when he came into the league. Even though he got better in the run game in his first couple of seasons, can he absorb the stress of reaching for an arm tackle against a big RB while tied up with an OL?

2009 - 0/11 sacks vs the NFCE
2010 - .5/8.5 sacks vs the NFCE
2011 - 3/9 sacks vs the NFCE

3.5 sacks in 18 games vs our division is definitely "having some issues".
