Kyle Shanahan Possibly Facing Suspension

I wonder what he said that got us that 15 yarder at the end.

Unless Goodell is suspended, Kyle shouldn't either.

Kyle and the Redskins were penalized for running out on the field to inform the idjits that the game was not over, (a worthy effort) and incredulous when the Bengals weren't penalized as well.

In the tunnel? Who gives a ****?

Oh Ax. I love your naivete`, mi amigo. Herr Goodell will not stand to have reports surfacing of his replacement refs (who are just as good as the "real" refs - honest they are, just ask Goodell) being upstaged by a coach.

Kyle's going down for this. Wouldn't be shocked if Goodell makes an example out of him to get the NFL community to pay attention and stop publically criticizing his horrific "handling" of this crapfest.

I will add that Belicheat GRABBING an official may actually ruin Goodell's plans to crush Kyle. That's the only reason, if it happens, Kyle ends up only with a fine and not a suspension.

Reports are that he chased the replacement refs down the tunnel after the game, berating them. Wow.

According to Mark Maske he will only be fined, but I'm not so sure. If this really happened (and it all signs point to the fact that it did), he deserves at least one game.

Hey, thanks Lanky-that is one hell of a fun website-I just got done reading about Ohio State U.president E. Gordon Gee and Matt Schaub's ear.

Interesting stuff.

I hope Kyle does get a couple game suspension to be honest. Just to see how differently the play calling would be if papa was game planning. Maybe the harsh criticism I have for Kyle is misplaced... Be interesting to see nonetheless.

Yeah, sure. Give him a game for being right.

Being right does not give him carte blanche to berate the officials. That is conduct that shouldn't be tolerated even if Goodell has Stevie Wonder calling the game.

I disagree. I think more coaches and players need to escalate this cluster**** to a point where Heir Goodell and his asshole employers are forced to resolve this crap.

Well, I suppose that's a valid point, however I was speaking more towards personal conduct that shouldn't be tolerated ever. I mean, if your normal starbucks' coffee girl is out, and her replacement effs up your order, do you curse her out? Lol.

I agree, when you're trying to demand discipline of your players, you should lead by example. I think as the head coach, it's Mike's job to argue for his team. Kinda like an Earl Weaver.

Yes, unless she offers to service my manhood. :)

It was actually a 20 yarder.

Yes, the replacement refs think there exists a 20 yard penalty in the NFL.
They just said on the radio that the NFL office said it didn't happen.

Are we gonna believe St. Goodell, or our lying eyes?

Hah. I haven't listened since about 1:30. I hope Czabe and Andy are talking about it.

I have no idea what happened. I was too busy leaving the stadium when it became obvious the game was over. I'm going off what the guys on ESPN 980 have been reporting.

I might have heard it wrong, cause I just heard another guy say the NFL acknowledged the screw up. I'm like, a replacement information guy. lol.

Oh, and I was watching the game and didn't catch it.

In fairness though, I was spraying more lighter fluid on my already burning coaching staff voodoo dolls.

Not gonna happen. Goodell has made it clear over the years that it's his way or the highway, and he will get rid of an dissent however he has to.

Consider the Vilma case. The independent arbitrator found Vilma innocent, yet most "experts" I have heard say there is a 50/50 chance at best that Goodell overturns his initial ruling. Dude is on a serious ego trip.

If the players organized themselves enough to strike, I honestly believe he would have replacement players in there before you could sneeze. If the coaches or front office people bitch, he will tell them to shut up. The ONLY avenue I can see that might impact him is if the owners, en masse, went and demanded that he fix the ref problem. But considering he is trying to save them money in the long term, unless we get some serious injuries to some big name players, I don't see the owners doing that.

Goodell ain't gonna blink. The real refs are going to blink before he will.

Ok, so it looks like Kyle Shanahan will get a hefty fine from the NFL, but that would be wrong on every level of fairness. Don't get me wrong. I am not advocating that coaches should place their hands on officials in anger or chase them down a corridor with harsh rhetoric. Is there anything wrong with a stern warning for Shanahan directly a la a first time offense, especially in light of the numerous officiating mistakes that cost the Redskins of a possible overtime game or even a victory?

Let's take a look at some of the mistakes made by the referees in this game. When BenJarvus Green-Ellis fumbled for the first time in his NFL career, Josh Wilson smothered the ball and proceeded to run to the endzone for an obvious score. He was not touched, but the referee blew the whistle too quickly and it cost the Redskins a lead of 31-24 late in the game. It would've continued the strong momentum that the team had at that juncture and for a few moments, other officials knew that the whistle was blown too quickly. After a brief discussion, the referees probably acknowledged their mistake in a huddle, but had to call the play dead at the time the whistle had sounded.

What does it take to get a holding call as Ryan Kerrigan is rushing the opposing team's QB? No, this is not a part of the team that Kyle Shanahan coaches, but the defense needs to hold up their end of the bargain. If the officials are ignoring blatant examples of obvious penalties, then how can we expect to get a favorable call that could benefit the offense (more time on the field)? Additionally, how could the officials miss the pass interference penalty on a bomb to Leonard Hankerson from RG3? I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

The last few moments of the game appeared to be officiated by members of the Keystone Cops. Kyle simply pointed out that time should not come off the clock and the league acknowledged it today. So why was their an unsportsmanlike conduct when he was able to plead his case correctly? True league officials would've known the rules and said penalty would be non-existent. However, if by chance had league officials made the wrong call, you can be sure that Kyle takes the same approach and the officials make the right choice. In other words, there was no unsportsmanlike penalty whatsoever. RG3's final attempt at a Hail Mary is about fifty yards and not sixty-five or so. Chances are better than average that the shorter attempt fails, but the young QB has the arm strength and intangibles to make that last second play a successful one.

I'm reminded of a funny saying that applies to today's league and replacement referees. "The beatings will continue until morale improves".

The players won't 'strike' - I agree it's silly to think it would get to that point. But if they did (just for hypothetical's sake), and Goodell did anything other than bring the replacement officials era to an end, the fan outcry would be such that Goodell would be run out of 'office' on a rail. Goodell, in my opinion, is one bad decision away from being unemployed. He's worn out his welcome on so many levels, he doesn't have enough support, even from the owners to survive another hyper-aggressive move. I really think he's vastly overestimated what he can get away with and he's going to pay big-time for future displays of hubris.

Actually, this is incorrect, sir. The arbitrator upheld Goodell hearing the appeal but this ruling was over turned by the independent panel, meaning that Goodell cannot hear the appeal. They reinstated the players pending a new decision from Goodell with the statement that a new suspension for these players should be accompanied by sufficient evidence to support it, but no where has anyone found Vilma innocent. Two very different things that...
