Game Notes: Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings

· The Washington Redskins lost to the Minnesota Vikings, 34-27, in front of an announced crowd of 64,011 people at Mall of America Field in Minneapolis on Thursday.

· The Redskins and Vikings met for the fourth time in as many seasons, marking the first time in series history the teams had played a regular season game in four consecutive years.

· The Redskins are now 6-8 all-time in Thursday games. Washington is 4-2 in Thursday games played on dates other than Thanksgiving.

· Linebacker London Fletcher played in his 249th consecutive regular season game, extending his record for the most by a defensive player since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

· Fletcher started his 208th consecutive regular season game, tying Derrick Brooks for the most by an NFL linebacker all-time.

· Running back Alfred Morris posted season highs in rushing attempts (26) and rushing yards (139).

· The 100-yard game was the 10th of Morris’ career, tying him with Clinton Portis for eighth-most 100-yard rushing games in team history.

· Morris posted consecutive 100-yard rushing games for the first time since posting three straight in Weeks 12-14 last season.

· Morris enters the weekend as the NFL’s leading rusher with 825 rushing yards. He also ranks third in the NFL and first among running backs in yards per carry (5.2).

· Morris rushed for 88 yards in the first half, his most in a first half this season and the third-most in a first half in his career.

· Quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 24-of-37 passes for 281 yards with a season-high-tying three touchdowns and a season-high passer rating of 114.8.

· The multi-touchdown game was Griffin III’s fourth of the season and ninth of his career.

· Griffin III’s three first-half passing touchdowns tied the most in his career, a three-touchdown first half at Dallas on Thanksgiving last season. Griffin III has thrown three first half touchdowns in each of his two career Thursday games.

· Griffin III has completed 43-of-64 passes (67.2 percent) for 585 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 126.1 in two career Thursday games.

· Wide receiver Pierre Garçon recorded seven receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown.

· The 100-yard receiving game was the 11th of Garçon’s career, his fifth as a Redskin and his third of the season.

· Garçon has surpassed 100 receiving yards in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 4-5 of the 2011 season as a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

· Including a 172-yard performance last week, Garçon’s 291 yards in the last two games represent his best two-game total in team history.

· Garçon is now tied with Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown for most receptions in the NFL entering the weekend (61).

· The Redskins posted 433 yards of total offense. Washington has amassed 933 yards of total offense in the last two weeks, marking the team’s best two-game output since posting 976 yards in Weeks 3-4 of the 2006 season.

· Washington was 9-for-16 (56.3 percent) on third downs. Including a 70.6 third down percentage last week, the Redskins posted a third down conversion rate greater than 50 percent in consecutive weeks for the first time since Weeks 9-10 of the 2000 season.

· Redskins rushed for 191 yards. Washington has recorded 937 rushing yards in the last five games, the team’s best five-game stretch since rushing for 978 yards in Weeks 2-6 of the 1985 season.

· The Redskins amassed 288 yards of offense in the first half, the team’s highest first-half total of the season and most since compiling 299 yards in the first half at Houston in Week 3 of the 2006 season, a span of 117 regular season games.

· The Redskins scored 24 first half points, matching their best output of the season set in Week 7 vs. Chicago.

· The Redskins held Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson to 75 rushing yards. Peterson, who has averaged 98.3 yards per game in his career, has averaged 51.0 yards per game in five career games against the Redskins.

· Safety Brandon Meriweather recorded his first interception of the season, intercepting Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder on the game’s first possession.

· With the interception, the Redskins have now forced a turnover in 13 straight regular season games. The team’s current takeaway streak is the franchise’s longest since a 21-game streak across the 1995-96 seasons.

· The Redskins have intercepted a pass in seven consecutive regular season games, their longest streak since an eight-game streak across the 2011-12 seasons.

· The Redskins scored on a 20-yard Kai Forbath field goal on their first possession of the game, the team’s third opening-drive field goal this season and first since Week 7 vs. Chicago.

· On the team’s second drive, Griffin III connected with wide receiver Pierre Garçon for an eight-yard touchdown.

· The touchdown pass was Griffin III’s 30th of his career, becoming the 15th player in team history with 30 passing touchdowns with the Redskins. The passing touchdown was his 10th of the season.

· The touchdown reception was Garçon’s third of the season and the 23rd of his career.

· The touchdown was Washington’s first first-quarter offensive touchdown of the season.

· Griffin III threw his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter, finding Jordan Reed for an 11-yard touchdown on third-and-goal.

· The touchdown was Reed’s third of his rookie season and his first since Week 7 vs. Chicago.

· With a 13-yard reception in the second quarter, wide receiver Santana Moss caught his 550th pass as a Redskin, passing Gary Clark (549) for sole possession of third-most in team history.

· Tight end Logan Paulsen caught his first touchdown pass of the season toward the end of the second half. The touchdown reception was the third of his career in regular season games.

· Tight end Niles Paul returned a season-high three kickoffs for 74 yards.

· Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson caught a season-long 29-yard pass in the first quarter. Hankerson matched his season high with five receptions.

· Linebacker Brian Orakpo registered his fourth sack of the season, dropping Ponder on the game’s first drive.

· Safety Reed Doughty played in his 100th career NFL game.
 
I like reading these stats each week. When it is a terrible loss, it feels like the team is putting a blue dress on a pink pig. Bottom line, it is still a pink pig.
