Cowboys Stadium – Arlington, Texas

Game Notes: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys

• The Washington Redskins defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 38-31, in Week 12 on Thanksgiving Day in front of an announced crowd of 90,166 people at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
• The game was the Redskins’ first on Thanksgiving Day since 2002.
• The win was the Redskins’ first Thanksgiving Day win since defeating the Detroit Lions, 20-0, in 1973. The win was the Redskins’ first Thanksgiving Day win against Dallas in franchise history.
• The 38 points scored are the most scored by the Redskins on Thanksgiving Day in team history. The team’s previous high was 23 points (Nov. 28, 1974 at Dallas).
• Quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 20-of-28 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns. His four touchdowns tied his career high set against Philadelphia last week, and his 300-yard passing performance was the third of his career (his first since Week 4 at Tampa Bay).
• Griffin III broke single-season team records for passing yards by a rookie (Norm Snead’s 2,337 in 1961) and passing touchdowns by a rookie (Eddie LeBaron’s 14 in 1952). For the season, Griffin III is now 206-for-305 (67.5 percent) for 2,504 yards with 16 touchdowns.
• Griffin III became the first player in Redskins history to pass for four touchdowns in consecutive games. He is only the second NFL player this season with four touchdown passes in consecutive weeks and is the only player to do so without the benefit of a bye week in between games (New Orleans’ Drew Brees threw for four touchdowns in Weeks 5 and 7 with a bye in Week 6).
• Griffin III is the first player in NFL history to have four 60-yard passing touchdowns and a 60-yard rushing touchdown in a season.
• Griffin III is the first rookie since at least the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to have multiple games with four or more passing touchdowns in a season.
• Griffin III’s four passing touchdowns are the most in a single game by a Redskins quarterback on Thanksgiving Day, surpassing the three Thanksgiving Day touchdowns thrown by Jim Ninowski (Nov. 28, 1968) and Danny Wuerffel (Nov. 28, 2002). Griffin III’s 311 yards are also the most by a Redskins quarterback on Thanksgiving Day, surpassing Ninowski’s 280.
• Running back Alfred Morris rushed for 113 yards on 24 carries. It was his fourth 100-yard rushing game of his rookie season. The Redskins’ last 10 players to rush for 100 yards in a game have all been rookies, dating back to 2011.
• Morris has nine games this season in which he has rushed for 75 yards or more, tying him with Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson and Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch for most in the NFC this season.
• In the second quarter, Griffin III connected with wide receiver Aldrick Robinson for a 68-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
• The touchdown pass was the 13th of the season for Griffin III and the third touchdown reception of the season for Robinson.
• The touchdown reception was Robinson’s second in as many weeks, marking the first time in his career he has posted touchdowns in consecutive games. The 68-yard reception was Robinson’s longest of his career.
• The touchdown marked the second consecutive week the Redskins have had a touchdown pass covering 60-plus yards, the first time the team has done so since Weeks 1-2 of this season. It was the Redskins’ sixth touchdown of 60 yards or more this season, including rushing touchdowns.
• Cornerback Josh Wilson forced a fumble in the second quarter that was recovered by safety DeJon Gomes. The forced fumble was Wilson’s seventh of his career and his third of the season, tying a single-season career high set in Seattle in 2008. The fumble recovery was the first of Gomes’ career.
• On the ensuing drive, running back Alfred Morris rushed for his sixth rushing touchdown of the season on a one-yard run. The touchdown was his first since Week 6 against Minnesota.
• Later in the second quarter, Griffin III found wide receiver Pierre Garçon for a 59-yard touchdown. On the play, Griffin III broke Norm Snead’s team record for passing yards in a season by a rookie (2,337 in 1961) and tied Eddie LeBaron’s team record for passing touchdowns in a season by a rookie (14 in 1952). Griffin III would take sole possession of LeBaron’s record later in the quarter.
• The receiving touchdown was Garçon’s first touchdown since scoring on an 88-yard touchdown at New Orleans in Week 1.
• Garçon finished the game with five receptions for 93 yards. His five receptions were a season high.
• Cornerback DeAngelo Hall registered an interception off of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. The interception broke a streak of 140 consecutive pass attempts by Romo without an interception.
• It was Hall’s second consecutive game with an interception, marking the first time he has had at least one interception in consecutive games since October 2010, when he had four interceptions at Chicago (Oct. 24, 2010) and one interception at Detroit (Oct. 31, 2010).
• The interception was Hall’s fourth of the season, marking his best single-season total since registering six interceptions in 2010. It was his 39th career interception. With his next interception, Hall will become the sixth active player to the 40-interception mark.
• After the interception, Griffin III led the Redskins on a four-play, 33-yard, 25-second drive culminating with a six-yard touchdown pass from Griffin III to wide receiver Santana Moss. The touchdown gave Griffin III sole possession of the team record for passing touchdowns by a rookie.
• The touchdown reception was Moss’ seventh of the season, his highest total since posting nine receiving touchdowns in his first season in Washington in 2005.
• Moss finished the game with four catches for 42 yards and now has 78 career receptions for 1,125 receiving yards against the Cowboys in his career, both the most among active players.
• With the touchdowns by Morris and Moss following the Gomes and Hall takeaways, respectively, the Redskins have now scored 76 points off turnovers this season, the team’s highest total since posting 88 points off turnovers in 2005.
• The touchdown to Moss capped a 28-point second quarter, marking the first time the Redskins have scored 28 points in a quarter since scoring 28 points in the second quarter of the team’s 38-36 win vs. Carolina on Oct. 3, 1999, a span of 214 regular season games.
• The Redskins led 28-3 at halftime, marking the team’s biggest halftime lead since Dec. 18, 2005, when the Redskins held a 28-0 halftime lead vs. Dallas. The game also represents the last time the Redskins had scored 28 points in a half.
• Including his performance vs. Philadelphia last week and his play in the first half, Griffin III posted a six-quarter stretch in which he completed 24-of-28 passes for 406 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions. The Redskins outscored their opponents 59-9 in that stretch.
• Defensive end Stephen Bowen registered his first full sack of the season in the third quarter.
• Linebacker London Fletcher, who played in his 235th consecutive game, intercepted Romo in the third quarter to register his 20th career interception, joining Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher as the third active player to have at least 20 interceptions and 30 sacks in his career.
• Thursday was the fifth time the Redskins have had multiple interceptions in a game this season, the first time the team has accomplished the feat since posting six multi-interception games in 2007.
• The Cowboys scored their first touchdown of the game in the third quarter, ending a streak of seven consecutive quarters in which the Redskins had held the Cowboys without a touchdown in games played at Dallas. The Cowboys’ last home touchdown against Washington before Thursday came in the third quarter of the teams’ meeting on Dec. 19, 2010.
• In the fourth quarter, Griffin III hit tight end Niles Paul for the first touchdown of Paul’s career.
• It was the fourth passing touchdown of the day for Griffin III, the most in team history in a game played on Thanksgiving Day.
• The touchdown pushed the Redskins past the 30-point mark, marking the fifth time the Redskins have scored 30 points in a game this season, the team’s most since scoring 30 or more five times in 2005.
• Griffin III threw an interception in the fourth quarter, snapping a streak of 124 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.
• Kicker Kai Forbath hit a 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to improve to 10-for-10 to open his NFL career.
• Washington held the Cowboys to 35 yards rushing, marking the Redskins’ second-best effort against the run the season and their best effort since holding New Orleans to 32 rushing yards in Week 1.
• The Redskins are now 2-1 in NFC East play and 5-4 against all NFC foes this season.
• The victory evened Washington’s road record at 3-3.
• The Redskins have now won consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 1-2 of the 2011 season.
• Including a win against Philadelphia in Week 11, Washington has now defeated NFC East opponents in consecutive weeks for the first time since defeating Dallas and Philadelphia in Weeks 4-5 of the 2008 season.
• The victory gives Head Coach Mike Shanahan 170 combined regular season and postseason wins as an NFL head coach. The win was his 162nd regular season victory as an NFL head coach.

That was kinda fun to read!

kinda surprising that this is the first time in franchise history a Redskins QB has thrown for 4 TD's in consecutive weeks.... I figured Rypien would have done that in 91 at some point.
