Hey all, I figured we have enough firearm owners here to warrant this thread. Basically any and all firearm related topics and discussion.

Here is my latest purchase, it's a Springfield XD mod 2 subcompact .45 caliber. I have yet to shoot it but it grips nice and is very balanced. Whatcha got?

That's one I'm interested in. Have had a chance to shoot it yet?

I wish I were able to legally carry a firearm here in the People's Republic of Maryland.

I will post some pics of my concealed carry choices when I get the chance. I don't carry all the time, due to my work environment, but I don't drive anywhere without a weapon any more. And you wouldn't want to be breaking into my house.

Actually haven't, bums me out too. Sits in your hand comfortably and every review is positive on it.

Edit: This guy reviews any and all pistols coming out on his range. He doesn't bullshit and knows his stuff. Overall good stuff

I hear ya Boone, wish I could as well but against work regulations. I do have it holstered on the bottom of my steering column so I'm good when driving. We're lucky here in Alaska, open or concealed is permitted.

I purchased a S&W M+P Shield 9mm last night. It's my first ccw. Fits my hand like it was made for me.

Snap a pic or shoot it yet Chris?

This coming Friday there's no school so the plan is about 700 or so rounds at the range. 5 firearms though

Here's my starter kit. Top is a Ruger .556
Middle from left to right is....
Glock .380, Glock .40, Springfield .45
Bottom is Weatherby PA459-12 gauge

i have fired one but I don't possess it yet, I'm still within the cooling off period.

Okay apparently shooting a 556 on the designated pistol range isn't "allowed". Who knew....am I right?!?!

I don't own a gun, never have and never will, but I also pity anyone who breaks in to my home. Actually, it will be a case of one man enters, dog poop leaves!

Aussie, curious if you dislike firearms or no opportunity to own one?

It's not that I dislike firearms, just that I dislike the public owning firearms. They have their place in the military, and that is where they should stay. We have very strict firearm ownership laws, so strict that the last 'mass' shooting was Port Arthur in 1996.

However, the Port Arthur massacre should not, in any way, be associated with any act of terrorism.

The only people who openly own firearms are legitimate hunters, criminals and members of outlaw bikie gangs. We don't have any amendment stating we have the right to bare arms, but we do have the right to live in a safe environment, and that means without firearms.

I live by the adage 'Guns don't kill people, psycho mofo's with guns kill people!'. Take away the guns and you take away the motive.

Taking away guns wouldn't take away a motive, it would only, maybe, partially take away a means.

And, how would you take away the guns?

If we could adopt the immigration laws that Australia has we might be able to discuss this the same. But the population, and the diversity doesn't make this the same playing field.

Mike's right, you can't compare Australian law with American law. We don't have a constitution like yours so the right to bare arms doesn't even enter in to the equation. We have a ban on guns that have absolutely no reason to even be in this country, yet in the USA, the same sort of gun is an every day item. We don't have the hunting like that in the USA, so there is no reason to have a stockpile of weapons. One gun is all that is needed, but in most cases, it is one gun too many! As an island country, immigrants HAVE to make an effort to come here, and when they do, they are expected to abide by our laws. Most do, but it is those with a criminal history, dating back many years, who come here and try to make it like the country they come from, or have ties to. Sorry, but that just doesn't cut it with me. If you choose to come to a country that has strict gun control, and you try to make the law to suit yourself, don't whinge about the harsh treatment you get from the authorities.

We still have gun crime, which includes drive-by's, but these are carried out by those who are known criminals anyway, so there is no way to stop guns being used other than to place a blanket ban on the importation of all firearms. As it stands now, what comes in is dismantled, but can be easily smuggled and assembled when it arrives.

Personally, I will never own a gun, and I doubt I ever will. I have no need to own a gun, not even to protect myself or my family. I have trained dogs for that, and the mess is easier to clean up!

You can't take away what is already available unless you make it harder to obtain. It seems that the process of getting a gun is relatively easy, but adding further restrictions, putting in more indepth background checks, looking at family history, and just making it that much longer for the entire process could be enough. Also, make any new prospective gun owner attend a shooting gallery that ensures that person is fully aware of the consequences of owning such a gun, to the point of knowing what happens when that weapon is used against them.

You need to change the mentality of gun users, but when you have organisations like the NRA, you are just fighting a losing battle. If need be, send it to a vote and if the numbers are greater to outlaw firearms than to keep them, make the necessary change. Let the people decide rather than have a law forced upon them.

Discussing firearms is fine guys, but let's stay away from the politics associated with gun rights vs. criminalizing or restricting gun ownership. Plenty of other places to discuss those things.
