Dwayne Haskins- Improving His Physique

Joe Flacco and Nick Foles won Super Bowls.

They have as many rings as Brees and Rodgers.

We have to stop buying into the belief we need a golden unicorn to win something.

Trent Dilfer. Mark Rypien.

Not Dan Marino, Jim Kelley, Warren Moon, Fran Tarkenton, Dan Fouts ...

Seems to me a true no-doubt first-ballot HOF-quality QB can lift an otherwise above-average team to greatness, but they are indeed unicorns. You can't plan for one, they just happen. If you're lucky enough to get one, then it's up to the organization to give him enough support to put it over the top.

Haskins doesn't look to me like a unicorn at this point, but then again neither did Brady or Rodgers to me after one year. Haskins could surprise me and become The Next, but until I see that, based on the progression so far, I've got him as a guy who has a decent chance to be good enough for long enough that Rivera and the organization can build enough around him to get us into legit contention.

Which is all I've ever asked of a team I support.

Can anyone point me to reports from any reliable sources that state that Haskins in not being diligent with efforts to learn the new offense? Or that he is?

I don’t want to assume facts not in evidence.

Is he working remotely with Turner? Can he?

Few things I’ve seen

For anyone to assume because the Redskins aren’t releasing daily updates on how well Haskins is ‘picking up the offense’, or noting he hasn’t posted any Twitter posts about his intense study habits - that somehow there must be issues - is a ridiculous perspective.

That’s not directed at anyone here, but the standard is somewhat ridiculous.

And yet the team noted for smart player selections and player signings keeps RGIII on the roster.

Anywho.....this year we'll see if Haskins steps up and shows he can read defenses expeditiously and make the right decision consistently. Not an impossible challenge.

:bsflag:

I've stated from day 1 I think the kid can have some success in the NFL, but I don't see him being a super bowl winner. He can be much like Dak, given the tools around him, he can win some games, get us to the playoffs, but that's the ceiling.
I 'm sorry, I couldn't make that out. Quit banging on the Jameis and Tua drums so I can hear you....

It takes only a few minutes a day to put some pictures or videos on Twitter. Leaves a whole lot of time for studying the play book.

People on Twitter want action shots, no one is clamoring for some video of Haskins turning the page of a book so you just see action shots. You can't gauge what someone does daily based on a handful of social media posts

In the end, I think we have the talent on defense to be very good. Combine that with now some top defensive coaches, I think we have at least a top ten defense this season. If that's the case, it comes down to Haskins, if he keeps playing and improving like he did towards the end of last year this will not be a rebuild.

The trade for RG3 was terrible and I called it when it happened!

Yeah, you can see it as that...I see it as a kid who needs his ego stroked so he posts his strengths.

Mr P: and if Haskins plays poorly or a teammate leaks something about poor study habits this board is all over him. I've seen it before. So folks do care.

Sure, I'm just talking about social media posts. I imagine if he posted a video of him studying his playbook he would get roasted, because that's a silly thing to post that no one cares about on social media.

We all want him studying, and I think he is, but posting it would be a bit strange. I imagine people would say he's just posing and not actually working. That's all I was saying

Folks care.

But the reality is there are one or two qbs a decade that come into the league with no question marks like Andrew Luck.

So teams and fans are always anxious about the development of the qb.

And many of the best ones like Montana, Young, Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Favre came into the league with early questions about their ability to transition at the NFL level.

Atlanta traded Favre and Tampa jettisoned Young before realizing what they had.

Bulldog...not a probe: I'm working to understand the take-away from your post. If I absorb the message correctly it is that with very rare exceptions there is uncertainty associated with rookie QBs. That uncertainty promotes fan/team anxiety. This was framed under folks care - with an introductory "But....." So the idea is that folks might care but the psychological driver for this is anxiety?

1. I would argue folks will care regardless. It's simply part of wanting to know what the prize bull is doing and saying as it were. The reaction can be favorable or not.

2. For my own part, I wouldn't characterize my psychology as one of anxiety. Especially at this point in the NFL drama. My mindset is more like any non-snowflake burdened leader's "Show me what ya got. Show me you take the job seriously. Earn your pay."

I want Haskins to succeed mostly because this team is in a world of hurt if he does not - IMO.

When all of these players engage in social media they are shaping an image - comes with the territory. Haskins got off to a bad start the night he was drafted. I thought what he said and his body language was, being kind, uninspiring for a first round QB selection. But that was a kid with one year of starting experience still in college. Then the season arrives. His Redskin HC was an arse. The team was bad. Haskins finally gets on the field. He proved some initial thoughts incorrect such as his mobility. Overall, his was still an average initiation. But that was inside a team roiled by the FO and only five games.

I think the move for Allen was an insurance policy. If Haskins doesn't elevate this season, Allen is the caretaker until the 2021 QB draftee matures.

Now Haskins enters his second season. He's still shaping his image. What's the message he is communicating? He's in the big leagues now.

So thankful that I cut my teeth in Redskins fandom at a time when there were no pseudo-psychologists around!

Did we ever worry what kind of message Joe Theismann's body language was conveying? John Riggins'?
;)

The abiding last impression of Theismann’s body language was ouch.

Haskins will either progress from last year or he won’t. Then we’ll actually have something tangible to base prognostications of his ceiling as a QB on.
