Do you have a second favorite team, and is that acceptable?

I see it on FB every year when playoff time comes around suddenly people have back up teams. Especially when Redskins fans change their pictures to another teams, not because they lost a bet but because they have a back up team. How is that possible? The other thing I see is people that changed teams because manning changed teams.

It is different if you pick teams you think will win and root on them, but to openly put up pics of said team, you are cheating on the Redskins!

I have two favorite teams, the Redskins and whoever is playing the dallass ****ing cowboys!

I have players who I'd like to see play well but I'll never have a different teams logo as my profile picture. When I was younger my grandfather, (who lives in SC) shortly after the expansion year, bought me a Carolina Panthers sweatshirt as a present... I think I wore it 3 or 4 times, and honestly didn't feel right doing it... but since it was a gift... lol

Is it acceptable? Sure.. why not. I know in baseball I'm a Nats fan but I was an Orioles fan as a child. I have a borderline unhealthy level of loyalty, so when the Nats and Orioles play eachother, it toes the line of uncomfortable. I like to see the Orioles do well, but the Nats are the only team whose gear I represent. Heads up, I root for the Nats, period.

 This again!

I root for several other teams, but my 2nd favorite football team is the Florida State Seminoles!

Burgundy and Gold only. Teams I hate the most in the playoffs are the ones I want to lose, but I won't cheer for the other team.

I have a friend who says he has two teams - the Cowboys AND the Colts. I mock him incessantly. As I should. It's like what they say about starting QBs. If you have more than one, you don't have any.

I have a longer list of teams I don't want to win, than those I don't really care about lol

I mean for me, is the Skins first and whoever is playing Dallas second. After that I just pick a team to root for in the playoffs and root for them...this year it was KC because I wanted Andy to get a Lombardi before Philly. Whoops. Whatever team I root for now, that won't continue into next season.

If someone wants to have a second or even third favorite team, whatever. Its kind of lame, and a cop out, but I'm not going to judge (maybe poke a little fun, but that's it).

I don't have a second "team" I cheer for after the Redskins.

There are circumstances under which I will root for-temporarily-a particular team.

I'm a little like most here, I think, in that there are other teams I root against, most specifically the Cowbums-whoever is playing them gets my fondest wishes and hope for a crushing victory over that lot.

The rest of the NFCE gets pretty much the same treatment only Dallas has a "special" place in my heart reserved for pure out-and-out hatred, thus I will hope-quietly-for the Eagles and Giants when they play the Cowbums.

Sometimes I find other teams "interesting" from a technical perspective because of how they are playing and I watch them, especially against a team that looks like a good matchup-todays games have been fun to watch and very interesting to me but I wasn't cheering for anybody in particular, just enjoying the tactical maneuvering during the game by both coaches and players.

There is also, however, a perverse part of me that loves teams that upset the apple-cart and make life miserable for sports books and especially those who smash "sacred cows" so I'll likely be rooting somewhat for the Chargers against Peyton. Hell, I'd get a kick out of a Chargers/Panthers SB just because it would screw with everybody's expectations. LOL.

Oh, I root against certain players also. I can't stand Tom Brady.

And I really wish Andrew Luck didn't look so much like the GEICO caveman with a haircut. :movefast:

:)

I cheer and root for the Redskins at all times and under all circumstances-nobody else gets that.

i root for the redskins every week even when they dont play

Mocking him is just being a good friend, whether he agrees with it or not.

I root to see our divisional opponents to do bad in the playoffs. Other than that I will root for an underdog team. This year? I could have rooted for Detroit...I'd like to see Peyton Manning get another ring, but they aren't underdogs. I have a soft side for the new up coming qbs like Kap,Wilson and Luck.

I have several other favorite teams behind the Maroon and Black. (Sorry, couldn't resist the Zorn jab).

2nd - Whoever is playing the cowgirls
3rd - Whoever is playing the giants
4th - Whoever is playing the eagles
5th - Whoever is playing the ravens
6th - Whoever is playing the panthers

Beyond that, there are players or teams I don't want to see win. Either because of their fans or the team in general. The Steelers definitely fall into that category. Their fans are so obnoxious whether they win or lose, but it's worse when they win. We also all hate the Seahags right now, but 3 years ago, I didn't give a flying flip about them and rooted for them in the Super Bowl years before that. So my "other" favorite teams are cyclical. There are only a few rare instances where I just don't care who wins a game.

The bottom line is, if it's not the Redskins, I'm certainly not rooting FOR another team. But I'll always root against teams, starting with the sucky 6 teams above.

I think the ONLY time I could root for Dallas is if we needed them to win late in the season to help the Skins win the division or get into the playoffs. Even THAT would be iffy. There ARE a few other teams I enjoy watching as well as certain players, like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers but I wouldn't call any of them "second teams". I also enjoyed watching Peyton Manning until this year. Living in Colorado, everything he does gets forced down my throat and I'm a bit sick of it. Really hoping Denver loses to San Diego.

Like most of you, I also root against certain teams, like everyone else in our division along with the Cheatriots, Steelers, Ravens, Sea Chickens and Farty Whiners.

I agree 100% with this. It is overexposure everywhere for him. Then you see these people that were Colts fans that are now Broncos fans because he is there. I guess the good thing will be when he is done those jackasses will not watch football anymore lol.

I have a friend who is a cowboys fan. He always tries to trick me with that question. I love telling him that I wouldn't even root for the cowboys in that situation. It gets under his skin so much, I just keep piling on. cowboys fans think they are the center of the universe and even your own team's success revolves around them. So when any of them try to pull that crap, I refuse to play along.

if it meant rooting for dallass to win, in order for us to get in the playoffs, I would cheer like a sonofabitch,..... for the better draft pick. I will not ever cheer for the cowpies, I quit playing fantasy football for 5 seasons, because I found myself cheering for a dallas player in a redskins game. Never again, now I wont even draft a cowboys player.

I have said this before, I would still have sex with a dallas cowboys cheerleader, but I would be selfish and not care if she had an orgasm. because Cowboys.

I play fantasy, but refuse to have any dallass, giant or iggles players on my teams.
