Did the Titans D look familiar last night?

So I'm watching the opener last night, and its late in the game. Tennessee decides to only rush four for the majority of the second half, deciding to drop 7 back and defend the pass. Every time the ball was snapped (with the exception of when the Titans blitzed), Big Ben casually stood back in the pocket, and had 5-6 seconds to find an open receiver, and pick apart the Titans secondary. Why? His pocket never collapsed, cause the Titans had no Haynesworth destroying the middle of the OLine.

Strong DBs, pretty good LBs, and pass-rushing DEs, and no push up the middle to collapse the pocket. It was like I was watching the Redskins last year, total de-ja-vu. Anyone else get the same feeling?

This is what Haynesworth brings to our defense. This is what we can expect this season, for as long as Big Al is on the field (furiously knocking on wood). Ladies and gentlemen, we're going to see a LOT of QBs on their backs this season, and its going to be fantastic. :)

Orakpo and Carter have to be licking their chops.

oh the excitement...

honestly though I didnt think Van den Bosch was going to drop off that much. I really thought he was good on his own and complimented by Al. But I guess he is like Luis Castillo; he just benefits from a great player like Merriman next to him.

Or like Dana Stubblefield.

I didn't get the opportunity to watch much of the second half, but from what I saw in the first half they were all over Ben. He was sacked several times and they couldn't run the ball. Are you sure it wasn't the play calling? Because the first half with different packages coming at them, the offensive line for Pittsburgh was shattered.

Maybe it was just me but the TN D looked gassed late in the second half and overtime, especially the line.

Yes, they stopped the run. We stopped the run last year also. I'm talking pass rush. In the first half, they got to Ben on the blitz, which is also not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about 4 down linemen getting to the QB - Titans had a lot of trouble doing that last night.

Collinsworth kept saying that just rushing four wasn't working and the only pressure they got on Ben was from the blitz.

I watched the DT play most of the game and there was no push up he middle......the DEs were about 1-2 steps late and they had a hard time getting off the field on 3rd downs.......sounds very familiar.

Our friend at the "other site," we'll call him Bart, has said we got consistent pressure on the QB with 4 down lineman last season. Personally, I think he's on crack.

Good to see Collins validate my observation!

I also heard some assertions that, if healthy, we have one of the top offensive lines in the league.

I think that's delusional.

Healthy, at most I'd be willing to embrace 'above average' (and that's mostly due to Joe Bugel being at the helm).

We have one of the best linemen in the league in Samuels. Past him, we're pretty average. Rabach is awful, and clearly the weak link.

Oh sure, we did. about 2-3 seconds AFTER the QB had thrown the ball. You could have made a drinking game last year about our D-line:

Drink every time our DEs were about 1/2-1 steps too late.

Most people would have had alcohol poisoning........

LOL. Yeah, that game would have killed some people. :)
