Long overdo. Hallelujah.

Edit: I see this is being discussed in the free agency thread, so close this if needed.

There is a glut of corners on the market that were surprises so I think the Redskins decided they could move on from Hall.

They were close on Ross last year and he was released by JAX.

With Morris on the staff they could have interest in Talib as well.

No worries, Ex. DHall's career as a Skin (presuming it's over) has been short but certainly not boring. And it would be unfair to let his departure go without a look at both the good and bad ... there was plenty of both.

I'll not be sorry to see the drama and character issue aspects leave town, but I'm going to reserve judgment on how it impacts the team on the field until the plan to replace him has had a chance to play out.

The good:
1. He was usually in position to make a big play.

2. He was guaranteed to have 1 huge game every season.

The bad:
1. He's nowhere near as good as he'll tell you he is.

2. He's not worth half the money he was receiving.

3. He constantly drew flags (and got away with a few) for boneheaded plays.

4. On a long ball, he had a 10% chance of intercepting, and a 90% chance of laying on the ground by making a terrible play on the ball and watching the TD or 50+ yard play go by. I don't recall ever seeing him just defend a pass. Ever.

5. He is the most worthless tackler in the history of the NFL. If I had to watch him spend 30+ yards going for the strip (and ALWAYS failing) on a third down instead of tackling his man short and getting us the ball back, I would have ripped my hair out.

He was horrible for us. His hype made people give him more credit than he deserved, his mouth did as well, and his one huge game a year seemed to wipe peoples memories clean of his horrible play for a year.

I firmly stand by the claim I made here a few years ago that no matter who we replace him with, even our own bench, we will not have a worse result. And it will cost nowhere near as much.

Dreams do come true.

Plenty of teams make due in the backfield with role players and journeymen. I'm ok with that approach until we can get in the position to draft quality players back there. I really hope they learned their lesson paying this diva all that money. Pissed it away, we could have had 3 decent players for the money we paid him. And without all the mouth, penalties and drama!

I have always believed that this team could not move forward until it got rid of DeAngelo Hall.

I have never seen one player get more mileage out of one game(4 int vs the Bears) with a fanbase than Hall has.

Glad to see him go and take all the bluster and drama with him away from Redskins Park.

As a football team, the Redskins can get on with livin' and move on up the mountain. :)

I didn't have that big a problem with Hall. He was a fair player who was overpaid and ran his mouth too often. There are worse things in the universe.

I'm fine not paying a guy more than he's worth, but his departure does leave a hole that needs to be filled. I'll be happy about this when that's taken care of.

He's the final bad contract of the Vinnius Cerratus era.

Who? The official protocol around here is that we refuse to acknowledge his having ever existed. :nono:

He was the only guy we had who was a 'ball hawk.'

I've got mixed feelings about this.

Agreed. I hate guys who run their mouths too much, and DHall definitely did that. But the man completely shut down Dez last year, and we now have no one on the roster who can do that.

Like OM said, I will withhold judgment until I see what else we do.

Adding up the pluses and minuses-and there were both-I think it's likely the amount of money keeping him would have cost that moved him from "need to keep" to "like to keep but even a restructure would have cost too much" status. Releasing Hall has one of the biggest impacts on available cap space and with the limitations on the amount gained by the already done restructures and potential restructures and possible releases it was a decision that seems almost inevitable in its necessity.

pretty much where I sit.

Please stop perpetuating this Bull****. Its 1 game where Dez was hurt and hampered by 2-3 different injuries.

The first game last year his stat line was:

8 for 11 145yds 18.1avg 85long 2 TDs

the second game
4 for 8 71yds 17.8avg 23long 0TDs

That is not shutting down completely.

Sure, he was a ball hawk. Me and my wife were talking about that. I said he's like the Dennis Rodman of the NFL. He's got a knack for being the best at being where the ball is. The only problem is, he doesn't realize he's a midget. There's only so much you can do when the guy you're playing jump ball against is nearly a foot taller than you, and you're playing the ball instead of covering. He just isn't built at all for what he does, and it's why he gave up excessively more TDs and big plays than he prevented or intercepted. I'd be willing to wager by at least a 2:1 ratio. That, my friends, is a ****ty CB. Not worth even half of what he wanted.

Did he ever successfully strip the ball all those times he was dragged 30-40 yards attempting the strip instead of tackling? I don't recall if it ever happened. I do know most in the last 2 seasons, nearly every single 3rd and long against us that our opponent converted was because Hall went for the strip all the way past the first down marker when he could have tackled them well short. He cost us twice as many games as he helped as win. I really don't see any upside to the guy, and those who do need to watch some game tape.

Of course, here's Hall acknowledging he isn't good at his job......

And the google search for DeAngelo Hall sucks returns 560,000 links

That tops:
Tony Romo sucks (325,000)
Michael Vick sucks (445,000)
Ryan Leaf sucks (129,000)
Albert Haynesworth sucks (366,000)

Now that's the kind of research I can respect!! I bet you that I'm quoted in at least a couple of hundred of those 560k!

Me too. When "your name" sucks doesn't even get beaten out by Michael Vick, it's a sad state of affairs.

Maybe. From what I remember, when Hall was on Bryant, he didn't do anything in the second game.

I'm not arguing Hall is a great CB, or worth the money we were paying him. I'm just saying right now we don't have anyone on the roster who can take his place. Some of you guys want to make it out that he is the worst CB in the history of the NFL, and he isn't. Again, not worth the amount of money we owed him, so I get the move. I look at the Pashos signing and figure we're going after other team's leftovers, which doesn't excite me.

Yeah I get that. I heard several people on the radio this week say he shut Dez Bryant down this past season so it struck a nerve. The 2nd game he kept him in check, but again DB had injuries. The numbers speak for themselves.

Halls contract makes him impossible to keep. His shenanigans make him impossible to root for. I find it hard to believe anybody picks him up for more than 2mil per yr. At that price I think we resign him not that I'm a fan of that.

The way shanny raved about him I kinda see that happening.

You know what bugs me? How people keep saying he's better than what we have. How would we know? Nobody else has been given a chance, because his ego and paycheck have crowded the roster, so he always plays. We won't know unless he stays gone what we've actually got. But we do know what we have WITH him, and that's nothing. You can't get worse than nothing.

I'm not saying he's the worst ever, that's obviously not accurate. But he's easily the worst multi year starter at the position we've ever had. A few people are trying to pretend he's above average, and that's hilariously laughable.
