Here is a speech given by Ronald Reagan on the 40th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion.

God bless the men who braved such conditions and those who lost their lives in the process. May this nation never forget the price that was paid so we can enjoy the freedom we do.

Reagan mentioned dying for one's country, even more importantly Democracy because it is the most deeply honorable form of Government known to man. That's been lost on so many.

My granddad landed at Omaha Beach, fought his way in to St. Lo, was wounded multiple times, and carried shrapnel in his body from an 88mm round until he passed away. Despite all that he saw and did, he was the ultimate family man, and my personal hero. I thank God for the fact that he was given the middle name "Lacy," which allowed me to name my eldest daughter after him.

Though he passed in 1979, I think about him daily. But every D-Day anniversary, thoughts of him dominate my mind. I love and miss that man more than I can possibly say. To him, and his compatriots who literally saved the world, God bless.
