Last week, it was Carlos Rogers who said that he would like to play against the Redskins twice a year. Now Clinton Portis has said that wants to do the same.

The Washington Redskins’ second-leading all-time rusher appeared on Late Hits on SiriusXM radio with Brian McGovern and Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew on Tuesday. In response to a question from McGovern, Portis, who was released by the Redskins earlier this year, said that he would like to play for the New York Giants.

“To go to the Giants and get to play the Redskins twice a year after them feeling I wasn’t capable any more, I think that would be outstanding,” he said.

He mentioned the Giants’ strong offensive line, run-oriented style and the presence of an established quarterback in Eli Manning as other reasons why he would like to play.

Portis also mentioned the possibility of playing for another one of the Redskins’ division rivals. In discussing his preference to play with “a quarterback who had the opportunity to really run his system” he listed Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles along with Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and others.

Portis did believe that his time in Washington was up. “I think for the situation that was going on in Washington for myself it was time to vacate,” he said. “The organization was going in a different direction, and I really think that Coach Shanahan is going to get the organization back on track and back to winning ways, which is what the people in Washington want to see.”

I would be shocked if he gets re-signed by anybody! He has played in like 11 games the last 2 seasons. He's done unless a team wants to sign him as a third down back. He might squeak out 6 games all season.

If he'd kept his mouth shut, he might have been re-signed here as a 3rd down back.

Nice to see you McD5, haven't seen you for a bit.

Portis did a hell of a job here, in fact possibly the best RB we've seen, considering the fact of the line he had to work with, but I don't want to start a debate, just my opinion. I appreciate everything he did here, without him we probably don't see the playoffs in 2005 or 2007.

However, it's hard for me to understand how he doesn't see why we let him go. The guy has been getting injuries left and right since 06 for the most part. Granted I still think he could be trouble for a lot of teams if he were to stay healthy.

However, Dallas and Philly are set, we seem to be set here (but I agree who could have been signed as a 3rd down back) and NY, who he wants to play for most likely will sign their FA's back.

I wish him the best, but he doesn't need to hold a grudge against the team. Stay healthy or you are gone, that's everywhere!

I think you guys are misjudging CP's comments. Thing about Portis has always been, guy just isn't able to keep his foot out of his mouth. Unlike most players who we might rightfully criticize for those kinds of comments, I don't get the feeling CP is bashing the team - he throws Shanahan plenty of praise right alongside the comments here. He's just angling to catch on somewhere else (in other words, the comments I think are intended not for Redskins fans or the team, but to potential suitors). Just my take on it though - I just don't sense any of his comments come from bitterness or anger.

Good to see you InsaneBoost. I hope all is well.

As for Portis, I would have rather seen him say "I owe a lot to Washington. I love the city and the fans, and wish them well. But I have to focus on me right now, and on being the best I can be."

But I guess that's asking too much.

What player WOULDN'T want to play his old team twice a year? It's our nature to want to stick it to anyone who doesn't value us as highly as we value ourselves. We simply HAVE to make our old boss see the error of his ways and regret not giving us what we thought we deserved. Can't blame CP for that although it's always best to tone it down lest he make a fool of himself....again.

the flip side...is that if expressed with malevolent intent....he becomes a tgt for his former teammates! seems like Boone is on to something...there hasn't been a consistent voice of anger in what he says like there was with Pierce.

He may indeed become a target, but it won't matter if he can't stay healthy. Mike correllated him with Lavar, and I think Lavar could have been that villain, but he couldn't stay healthy either.

I noted that he becomes a target if he is aggressively anti-Redskins. I don't think he has been. AGree that health is an issue. I wish him well...sidebar controversy's aside...I thought he always played hard for the Skins - and he carried the load during the Gibbs years.
