Smith wasn't going to be back in 2011 at age 33 with his gross and net averages being what they were.
So, he was a safe cut. If he had been putting up McBriar or Shane Lechler type numbers he would not have been released obviously.
Like Norv, it was an example of cutting an expendable player to cover up the general failure of the team to execute effectively over 60 minutes.
This team was in the Tampa portion of the field the entire first half and came away with only 10 points.
The inaccuracy of McNabb, the unimaginative playcalling of Kyle Shanahan and the inability of the OL and RBs to pick up the blitz were the real culprits.
