Can this be true? These guys were not flagged ONCE for a holding call, and in total they only had two penalties called on them?

Is this impressive? It sounds like it ...

For example, Okung had 13 penalties called him. Joe Thomas had 8. Yanda had 7 called on him. Chris Snee had 3 ... Winston had 10

I just would have guess the average OL would have between 7-10 penalties called on them per year. These guys played a lot of games, a lot snaps, to only be flagged once each sounds pretty remarkable. Now some were declined I'm sure ...but still.

How is TurnsTyler Polumbus supposed to hold anyone when he can't even get in the way of their first move?

I was all ready to defend him ... then I read this:

In Brown’s place was 2008 undrafted free agent Tyler Polumbus. Polumbus had his moments on an offensive line that turned out to be a solid unit in 2012. However, he was by far the biggest liability. Among all tackles that played at least 404 snaps, Polumbus had the second-lowest Pass Blocking Efficiency score and was responsible for seven sacks, four QB hits and 42 hurries. Polumbus also graded out as our second-worst run blocking tackle behind only the Packers Marshall Newhouse. An upgrade is necessary here.

Damn ... well, I still think the penalty thing is a plus. :square:

Yeah, not sure the lack of holding penalties is necessarily a good stat to hang one's hat on. The best OT's know when to hold. Lachey, Samuels, now Trent ... I don't mind hearing the occasional holding call against my OT once I've seen the replay and it shows him protecting his QB from a runaway freight train my any means nccessary.

Great player, but Okung can't manage to do the three S's everyday without getting called for a penalty.

Wow, that must mean that most of the teams the Redskins play are absolutely terrified we're going to kill their QB at least a dozen or so times per game.

Yep, the old joke that the tackle doesn't get called for holding because he is so slow off the ball he can't even get his hands on the DE or the OLB

Polumbus was an absolute turnstile in pass protection. When Cooley came back to the team it appeared to me his SOLE mission was to set up and back up Polumbus to the outside on passing downs as a secondary blocker.

You ask why Cooley didn't have more 5-8 yard receptions on third downs, even with reduced speed because of the knee?

That to me is the primary reason.
