When an NFL team gets better, moving from one level of the league up to another, the change certainly starts at the top with a new coach like Mike Shanahan, or a better quarterback like Donovan McNabb or, in the case of the Redskins, with an owner who decides to step back and let others have more control.

However, the improvement must spread much further through the team than that. Shanahan's Super Bowl rings and McNabb's accolades in Philadelphia are a catalyst. But new young players must arrive to contribute. And players who were part of the previous losing culture must be redeployed to better advantage, transformed from being part of the problem to keys to a solution.

This was a honest assessment. It's nice that this team that's had so much change since last year has been able to catch a break here and there to start this season.

This is not the team we're going to see at the end of the season and certainly not the team we're going to see next season. I just like to see them building.

We've seen Shanahan already start looking towards 2011 by putting younger guys in position to play and some long vested veterans start to be benched or already cut.

Thomas was the first this season. Dockery and Carter don't fit the schemes so they've lost their jobs. Portis has been replaced by Torain and Williams. Don't be surprised to see a few more changes before the end of the season.

I'd like to see them try to trade Carter if they can't find a spot for him. He's got some value to a team running a 4-3. Dockery too for that matter. Even if we only get a late round pick for them it beats nothing.

I guess we need to keep them both for depth at this stage but maybe this off season.

We are all excited to experience the announcement of draft selections IN REAL TIME TOGETHER. If you feel the need to be the first to 'blurt out' the team's picks you are better off staying out of chat and sticking to Twitter. Please refrain from announcing/discussing our picks until the official announcement has been made at the podium. Thanks!
