REDSKINS RE-SIGN CB E.J. BIGGERS

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent cornerback E.J. Biggers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Biggers (6-0, 185) was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round (217th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. For his career, he has appeared in 61 regular season games with 29 starts, compiling 186 tackles (154 solo), 30 passes defensed, four interceptions, two fumbles forced and one sack. Last season, Biggers appeared in 16 regular season games with five starts for the Redskins.

Biggers, 26, played collegiately at Western Michigan from 2005-08, appearing in 46 games with 40 starts and earned second-team All-MAC as a senior.

Edjuan “E.J.” Biggers was born on June 13, 1987, in Miami. He attended the city’s North Miami Beach H.S., where he was named Dade County Player of the Year as a senior in 2004.

While I wish all the guys well I will admit some degree of concern that for a secondary that struggled last season we are bringing everyone back except for Josh Wilson.

While I wish all the guys well I will admit some degree of concern that for a secondary that struggled last season we are bringing everyone back except for Josh Wilson.

The idea is that the front line was so unimpactful that the secondary was stranded and left out on its own.

Lots of people subscribe to the idea that a secondary cannot be expected to cover for more than 3 (or so) seconds, and ours was forced to cover for what seemed like hours.

The focus has been on improving pressure on the qb, and the rhetoric out of Ashburn is that Haslett was handcuffed. The team clearly believes that getting more pressure on the qb more consistently will = a significantly improved pass defense.

While I'm not sure I agree that they've done the best to fix it, I do agree with them that is the root problem.

Porter will help, I am higher on him than some folks are.

I suppose the reality of going with Meriweather and Doughty potentially again has me wishing for other changes.

Thomas may pan out long -term but I would guard against putting too many expectations on a 23 year old who missed all of his rookie season with a serious injury.

I see him impacting the team later in the season not in the beginning.

Clark would have been an OK bridge for one year but it seems clear at 34 he is pricing himself out of the market and perhaps per his tweet has too many issues with the organization.
