'The fans don’t know. They think they do. But they don’t.’

How most of us older redskins fans(those that have seen the Glory Days) feel after high hopes are dashed by this horrid start:

One of my favorite movies too :)

Boone,

A great piece once again! Congratulations and thank you.

I know I've said it on a thread here before, and these troubling times are proving that it holds true. That being the fact that just because we seemingly and collectively felt that this team turned a corner a year ago, it doesn't mean that we all of a sudden can part ways with patience.

It's when expectations are in place and heightened in sports that sometimes patience needs to be utilized even more extensively among the fan base. That especially holds true with a young roster that we've assembled for the most part.

We all know that there is a strong nucleus of young players here, and many are of the variety required to win a championship one day (or so we've stated on many occasions last year when we were on cloud nine).

Now, to go back and have serious doubt about the new breed of Redskin blood we've brought into the locker room, after all the pain and frustration we had to endure over the last 20 years or so would be silly. To start harping on the owner again and making the name "Snyder" become the focal point of Redskins conversations after an 0-2 start is silly as well, especially after rarely hearing a peep of his name in the midst of last season's euphoria. It's all wasted energy in my mind - we've been there, done that time and time again.

The bottom line is learning to stop doubting this team is like trying to get an alcoholic to stop drinking. It's hard. It takes time. It takes patience. And even when you think you got the habit kicked, it's just as easy to succumb to temptation.

Personally, I felt too proud of this team a season ago to instantly go back to the dark side after just two weeks of bad football.

Call me crazy, but I'd hate to be the Lions on Sunday.

Another great piece for so many reasons! Thanks for writing that.

And Gussy Goo cracks me up. I've never heard that term before--it's hysterical.

Diesel, great clips too. Perfect for this thread.
