Two blogs in two days? Holy Word docx Batman, what's gotten into Neo? RGIII, that's what. There is a lot of talk right now about records,...

Good Stuff Neo...............we did what we needed to do!!!!i am a firm believer that you get what you pay for....

Yup. The price was set based on where you were moving too, not were you were moving from. Can you imagine the moaning if we'd have had to give the same to move up from 3 to 2.

The good news is that we are in position to win the mythical offseason championship after losing it the last few years. Next week could put us over the top.

I disagree, there is no way we pay as much with a #3 pick in the mix as we do with a #6. not even close, and frankly if we had the Number 3 pick and we KNOW someone else is going to sell the farm to move up to get Rg3, then with a 3 we get potentially the third best player in the draft and move ahead with our number 2 option, given the draft this year and the crazy depth at certain spots, I think that would have been far better than risking everything on one player. too many eggs in one basket here.

Good job Neo.

You always try to win during the season. Always.

You do what it takes during the off-season.

You hope for the best, all season.

And that is your opinion, obviously. But like I said in the piece, apparently the Rams set the price and we were the first ones to match it. It would have been the same for the Browns to move up from #4 and that tells me that it would have been the same for us to move up from #3 had we been there instead of #6. I just don't see that as arguable.

The third best player in this draft is either Blackmon or Kalil. The first is useless to the Skins without a trigger man to get him the ball which is one reason I haven't been unhappy about the seeming lacking attention to the WR position. The second might be an upgrade over Williams at LT, allowing us to Williams over to RT but that is a lot of money to pay a RT.

*shrug*

I would have done the same thing the Skins did, namely bust my ass to win during the season and make the trade they made last Thursday.

its rare that an elite LT becomes available, almost as rare as a qb, I dont see how adding an elite LT and waiting until we can get an elite QB without sellling the farm is a bad thing, frankly, the rams trading down one spot would have taken less than trading down 4 spots perhaps a second in place of one of the first rounders, I think they rooked us, they bluffed and we blinked.

We had Chris Samuels for how long without an elite LT? How many championships did that get us? This isn't an LT league, sir. It's a QB league.

And ask yourself this, which player is better at their respective position, Grossman at QB or Williams at LT? Then ask yourself which possible drafty would represent the bigger upgrade over what we had at the respective position last year, Kalil or Griffin?

Good thread Neo. That being said, and please don't invest time in the research, but I wonder how badly another one or two wins would have hurt us in getting RG3? Maybe we would have been dead if outside the top 10.

It's possible that we won the perfect amount, and lost the perfect amount in this pursuit.

Samuels was a good LT but he was never an elite LT. Kalil apparently is a stud LT prospect.

Williams is decent, nothing more, and likely to get suspended again. but Grossman and beck are bad, no doubt, I thought Flynn would have been a good option and he wouldnt have cost us multiple firsts for a potential upgrade.

I think we could have won a couple more, sure. But generally I agree with you on finishing outside the Top 10. All indications I have seen are that the Rams definitely wanted to stay in that range with their first pick this year so a move lower likely would have been more expensive.

And Flynn will cost a lot more money too making it much harder to part ways with him if he really doesn't have what it takes to get the job done outside of Green Bay. Remember, for all that we have seen him in two NFL games and has been successful, he might never do that game in and game out after teams plan specifically for him.

We will also have to agree to disagree about Samuels. He might not be HoF but he was an elite LT.

He went to six pro-bowls in ten years. The chances of drafting a LT of that calibre is about the same as the chances of drafting a six-time pro-bowl QB ...

I can be a bit cynical at times but there is no way at age 23 you know that Trent Williams is going to be merely an average player for the Redskins.

Williams was known to be a talented player that in college tended to get by on his natural ability rather than being known for his work habits.

Evidently, those improved and he lost weight and came into the season last year in better shape and better prepared to play.

I am willing to give him a mulligan for the pot suspension this ONE TIME.

I would hope that by the time he is 26 like Fred Davis and has been around for 4-5 years that he will know better :)

sorry Neo ... :) ... there is a minor flaw in your thought process. well argued as things stand TODAY.....but at the time the argument was being made about wininng & losses...there were 4 QBs in the mix (USC, OU bubbas). finishing with fewer wins absolutely increased the odds of drafting one of these four without having to wheel and deal. not getting into the whole "you always want to win" side of the coin which is a legit pov.....

Well, if there were 4 solid QBs in the draft we'd likely not have had to trade up to get one, or if we did the price would have probably been lower.

I still have to go with what I said when this was being discussed during the season:

If this front office knows what it's doing, drafting low won't matter.

If this front office doesn't know what it's doing, drafting high won't matter.

Either way, we may as well win the games in front of us. Worry about the offseason in the offseason.

If this front office knows what it's doing, we're just about to draft a franchise QB, surround him with hard-working, high-value FAs, supplement that with a nice draft in rounds 3-7, and turn this team into a perennial winner and won't look back.

If this front office doesn't know what it's doing, we just mortgaged our future for a huge bust at QB and will be mired in suckage for the next five years.

Either way, the Seattle game doesn't matter, except in the record books.

Pretty much Heaven or Hell, huh. :scholar:

that is one way of looking at it.

another is that at any given time there are only so many resources to expend toward accomplishing a goal. increased expenditures in one area mean less available elsewhere. In my own mind, and many disagree no doubt, if you're going to *uck anyway...make the *uckage pay off downstream

But that's the problem my brother. You can't make anything pay off.

The best you can do is suck, and HOPE the suckage pays off.

I rather try to NOT suck, and hope THAT pays off.

It's all in what you hope for, I guess. ;)
