Despite the fact that it is hot enough here to get your steak done medium rare right off the hoof out in the field across the street from my place, I have been spending a fair amount of time outside this week. You see, I have been watching the sky. No, I am all that interested in clouds. Not a weather bug and there have not been any wild storms to view either.

Nope. I have been watching for the fall.

I was sure it was coming too. It has been predicted everywhere I go on the internet this week and as we all know the internet is never wrong.

Just like it wasn

So while I am not surprised that the interwebz thinks the sky is falling, I can’t say that I am surprised that it isn’t splattered all over my front yard yet. I sort of expected it to stay where it is. It only gets bluer from here folks.

Well said, sir. You are absolutely correct.

Rationally, I agree with everything you said. I particularly think your point about Robert's head limiting him early is probably dead-on. We think of him as 'Superman' and he is all confidence in terms of what he says, but he's human, and he's got to have some of the same thoughts we've all had, no matter how hard he tries to deny that or suppress them. And there's also the mental part of the game, what it takes to process decisions in the flash of milliseconds, beyond the injury thoughts, that takes time to get up to full speed.

On the other hand, I thought we looked BAD. Not just Griffin, almost across the board. Not 'not good'. We looked BAD. And the 2nd half was no total turn-around. We looked a lot better, but again, obviously Philly thought they could ride out the clock on us and that opened things up. I was not dazzled.

Yeah, it's the first game of the season. Yeah, it's not the end of the world. But this should've been a 'W' in a season where 'W's' are going to be a lot harder to come by. I'm worried. If we could pull out an improbable win in Green Bay, that would go a long way to restoring some confidence. I'm not Chicken Little. But the sky looks a little threatening to me.

I remain convinced that the first half was more of an anomaly than a precursor of things to come.

After expectations that were placed on that game; the national stage, the nearly unimagined recovery and return from serious surgery, the (dreaded) undefeated exhibition schedule,...

The team was rewarded with a visit from Murphy. Murphy's Law. What can go wrong will go wrong. As good of an example of sometimes '**** happens' as there could be. Through three early offensive possessions the team crapped the bed, forcing the defense to live on the field against a turbo offense they couldn't adjust to. Why? Because there wasn't time to. NFL coaches and players are really good at making adjustments, ones they make on the sideline while the other side of the ball is on the field. Our defense didn't have that luxury.

I'm not convinced that the Philly offense started playing four corners in the second half either. I think that they too were victims of Kelly's pace. This isn't college where you can rotate in 75 players and still have more talent on the field than your opponent. Those guys were gassed.

I expect to see improvement across the board tomorrow. I don't expect us to hand over the game again.
