2014 - Week 4 Redskins v Giants

Blognosticator - SC_RedskinsFan

It is an honor and a privilege for me to write this weeks blog! Much like others here I have never written a blog before, so if this sucks just blow it off as SC being drunk as we all know that sometimes this team makes us drink, and by drink I mean drink heavily!

I would like to start first by thanking John, Mark, and Bob for creating BGO. This place and the people in it are pretty awesome. I consider a lot of people here very close friends, and cannot wait to see all of yall at the BGO Tailgate again this year!

It was a tough loss for us against the Iggles, because that was a game we could have won. The team played fired up, even with all of the key injuries and the ejection that we suffered. Kirk Cousins showed that he is a very good quarterback in the right system. Yes he did miss some key throws at the end of the game, and we floundered on our last possession, but we all need to remember that he has not had a ton of playing time when a season has mattered. So overall I am very happy with his play this week and how we utilized our weapons on offense. I would have liked to see us run a little more, but you have to take what they are giving you.

Our defense suffered a pretty big loss with Hall’s injury, and we saw how classless the iggles fans are with their reaction to his injury. That will be a pretty big blow to our already thin secondary. We need to keep pressure on the quarterback with our defensive line to help take the heat off of them this week.

The special teams is still very concerning to me. We gave up the kickoff return for a touchdown, and there were a couple of punts where we had pretty poor coverage. I do not know why special teams has been such an issue with this team for the past couple of years, but we need to fix this asap. Also, missing what seemed to be a very easy field goal that would have given us the lead hurt. However, it is good to see that we have a decent return game for a change. We just have to stop giving up easy points and missing easy points on our end.

On to the game for this week! **** the giants, wait am I allowed to say **** in a blog?? Ahh **** it! As I see it, on paper we should be able to handle the giants easily. But we all know what happens during division games- teams step up because of the hatred they have for each other. This is a very big game for us. Since we are 2 games behind right now for the division, that makes this a must win if we want to be playing in January. Obviously, three games behind is a tough hole to dig out of.

I am torn on what I think will happen in the game this week. If we play with the same fire we did against the iggles we should blow them away like we did the Jags, and boy wouldn’t that be nice after the loss this past week. That would be just what the doctor ordered. But I also know this team, and know that on a short week like this that we could have a let down because we got so up to play the iggles.

So here is my official prediction. Knowing how big of a game it is, Gruden will have the team ready to play. I think we come out firing with big passes down the field, and will pound them with a healthy dose of The Butler and Helu Jr. The defense will be aggressive by blitzing and pressuring Eli, forcing him to make quick bad decisions. Once you get Eli frustrated, you have him right where you want him and that is what we will do to him. The special teams will step up big and get a return touchdown for us. By the time the 4th quarter rolls around MikeSr will be sipping on a nice victory Hoppin Frog beer, if he has any left! Cheers!!

Final score – Redskins 31 – giants 13
