2014 Season Predictions

The new season is about to begin and the Redskins are facing another tough sixteen game schedule. In the final offseason edition of BBQ for 2014, we will make a game by game prediction. BBQ would love to see a 16-0 record, but let’s see if we can make some accurate prognostications.

September 7 – Redskins at Texans
The Jay Gruden era begins with a lot of hope and promise. The Texans have a new coach too and expectations on both sides are optimistic. A tough defense against the Redskins is the difference.
Texans 21 Redskins 20.

September 14 – Jaguars at Redskins
A home game at FedEx Field is needed as the Redskins look to avoid losing their first two games. The Jaguars are pesky for thirty minutes, but the home team pours it on in the second half.
Redskins 30 Jaguars 13.

September 21 – Redskins at Eagles
The I-95 rivalry is a see-saw affair as both teams demonstrate some good offense. In the end, it is the Eagles defense with two fourth quarter stands and that is the difference.
Eagles 33 Redskins 28.

September 25 – Giants at Redskins
The Thursday night contest features two teams that are struggling early in the season. A win for either team keeps the season alive while a loss puts someone in a deeper abyss. The Redskins finish strong and pull to .500 in the first quarter of the season.
Redskins 38 Giants 17.

October 6 – Seahawks at Redskins
Jay Gruden’s bunch is looking to have a winning record after this game against the much-hated team from Seattle. A Monday night contest is a nightmare as the Redskins are simply outmatched and absorb another loss.
Seahawks 25 Redskins 14.

October 12 – Redskins at Cardinals
Historically, games against Arizona have been lopsided affairs – against Arizona. This time around, the Redskins are on the losing side of a lopsided affair.
Cardinals 38 Redskins 24.

October 19 – Titans at Redskins
The Redskins need a win and hope to get their season back on track. Another loss would really put a downer on the season, but a win would keep hope alive. Fortunately, the Titans come to town and fizzle before the home crowd.
Redskins 41 Titans 10.

October 27 – Redskins at Cowboys
Coming off of a blowout win the week before, the Redskins are looking to sustain some momentum toward a playoff run. The Cowboys are struggling at this point in the season and are looking for a much needed victory. Unfortunately, the Redskins oblige.
Cowboys 26 Redskins 24.

November 2 – Redskins at Vikings
After losing a heartbreaker the previous week, Jay Gruden’s bunch travels to the University of Minnesota as a new venue for the Vikings is still under construction. It doesn’t get any easier as the Redskins drop another road game.
Vikings 29 Redskins 21.

Week 10 - Bye
The two previous weeks were painful as the team let a couple of winnable games slip away. The record of 3-6 could’ve easily been 5-4 with a lot of momentum. The bye week brings talk of a seven game winning streak – a la 2012.

November 16 – Buccaneers at Redskins
An extra week of rest is exactly what the team needs and having a very favorable home game after the bye helps too. An extremely focused Redskins team cruises to an easy win.
Redskins 42 Buccaneers 8.

November 23 – Redskins at 49ers
The Redskins face one of their toughest opponents to date and fall behind early. A drive before the first half ends brings the Redskins closer. However, the 49ers roll in the second half as they bury the visitors under an avalanche of running and receiving TDs.
49ers 40 Redskins 7.

November 30 – Redskins at Colts
Football fans have been waiting for this battle since Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin, III were chosen 1-2 in the 2012 draft. Luck claims the first win in this series.
Colts 34 Redskins 24.

December 7 – Rams at Redskins
The Redskins still have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, but it is not realistic. The Rams are struggling to as they have continued woes at the quarterback position. The home team keeps their faint playoff hope alive with a needed win.
Redskins 37 Rams 17.

December 14 – Redskins at Giants
Both teams are having a dismal season, but the Giants play with a little more enthusiasm as the Redskins are officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Giants 26 Redskins 23.

December 21 – Eagles at Redskins
The Eagles have locked up a division championship and are now playing for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Redskins pull off a shocker at home as the team plays one of its most complete games of the season.
Redskins 31 Eagles 14.

December 28 – Cowboys at Redskins
Fresh from a huge upset of a division rival, the Redskins would like to close the season on a high note. Both teams are out of the playoff picture, so playing for pride is the only thing left in this battle. The Redskins score early and often.
Redskins 41 Cowboys 17.

The Redskins finish with a record of 7-9 as they are able to close the season with three wins in four games. In those last four games, the offense and defense was playing far better than a few weeks earlier. The team will be able to build on that success and 2015 will see a major improvement overall. The Redskins have the 12th overall selection in the first round of the 2015 draft as they look to the future.

This is the final offseason edition of BBQ. The weekly BBQ format will return each week during the regular season.
