Washington Redskins: How Daniel Snyder found his man in Mike Shanahan

Sarge

A good story on how our franchise has operated the last 10 years. No wonder we've sucked

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...ike-shanahan/2011/09/07/gIQA1D0oIK_story.html

On a Sunday evening nearly two years ago, Daniel Snyder hit his nadir with the Washington Redskins. Trudging down the stairwell of one of his private planes in the hangar of the Dulles Jet Center, burgundy-and-gold striped necktie askew, he mouthed an expletive passengers behind him could clearly hear. In that moment, hours after the Redskins had lost to the lowly Lions — the worst team in pro football — in Detroit, Snyder resembled less of an NFL owner than an exasperated day trader.

Careful posting articles like this Sarge, you're going to get called bitter and told to get a life. :)

Of course:)

But it does show exactly how this organization has been run for 12 years. "**** it, let's go get Shanny". Just an impulse, as has been most of his pickups. No thought, no clue. "Hey, this ain't working, let's get ........................"

Like I said, no wonder we've sucked. I hope this time that even though the Shanny idea seems to be of the same nature, that it'll actually work out.

We'll see

Nah, at least Sarge is honest about his motives.

There's a difference.

Still, the only name attached to this is Mike Wise.

A reporter.

From the Post.

Is it accurate? Could be.
Is it complete? Doubtful
Is it's main objective to sell papers? you bet your ass.

I'll never understand this perspective, no offense. You can, and should, critique the "journalism" that is (not) going on here. Wise's writing is melodramatic and over the top, and the fact that he couldn't get one single source is preposterous.

But is anything you read there incongruous with what we know of Snyder? Was there anything there that made you sit up and cry bull****? Is it possible some small facts are made up or misremembered? Sure, I'll give you that. But ask me if I have any trouble believing the core of the story is true (I don't).

Face it, Danny brought in a Bingo caller in Zorn's last year. Does the rest of this really sound over the top or far-fetched?

I don't see any reason to think this isn't true, or at least true enough.

Well to be fair this column came out before the game.

Sarge just waited until after a win to post it. :)

Basically I didnt know Shanahan or remember if i did know that he was courted so early. I think with A GM in place before Zorn is still here and successful.
It does sound like snyder trying to make Zorn apoligize to a player and not holding the player accountable

I don't have an issue with the article. I think the WP is beyond bush league putting that out the night on the eve of the opener. I'm not a fan because of or of Dan Snyder. I'm a Redskins fan.

He's not a nice guy. Nor has he had a clue how to be an NFL owner. He may be learning now, but I'm not even sure of that. As someone elsewhere said 'Dan Snyder is who we thought he was'.

So, we're in agreement here.

And, we're in agreement here. Where we may differ is, I realize that there is ZERO benefit in the information. Except, paper sales.

That's the other difference we have. I did face it. It's history. It's a dead...****ing...horse. And unless your Mommy got fired too, is useless drivel that doesn't do a damn thing to enhance your life.
I don't see any reason to think this isn't true, or at least true enough.
Agreed. But again, what purpose was served? Besides paper sales. Or trying to create drama, since there ain't none.
yaaaaawn..even in a win we get the negative nancy's.
Bingo!!!

Well said.

seems like he got caught up in being a little too negative yesterday. perhaps he should cut down on his Vitamin Hate before posting on game days.

Actually, I got caught up in watching the team do the same things it's done for the last 15 years, which is move well between the 20's and then crap out, usually ending up in a missed field goal.

It was a nice surprise that they came back and shook that off

As for the article itself, most people know I have issues with the danny. That article is pretty much spot on about how he operates a football team, which is much like a fantasy team. "Hey, let's go get......................."

Hopefully he's learning the lesson that he's not a football brain

Shanahan lived in a 35,000 sqft estate and all his wife could come up with for breakfast was take-out burritos?

Must have been the staff's day off.

I gotta' admit, there are times I'd just rather have breakfast burritos from Anita's than the finest breakfast I could imagine... :)

I was thinking the same that and, well...she is a woman, she should be making breakfast anyway, shouldn't she?

Wow. I really wish that I hadn't read that.

I'm not a fan of the Danny. Never really have been, although I don't think he is as bad an owner as Jerry.

However, if anyone here thinks this is the first time a team owner has done something like this or that Danny is unique in how he got Shanahan, I think you might want to wake up and smell the coffee. Is this how every coach in the NFL is found? I am sure not. But there is no way I believe Danny is the first owner ever to court a new coach before the old coach has had his parking privileges revoked.

True, but I'm pretty sure its the first time the old coach was hired as an offensive coordinator before there WAS a head coach, and then promoted to HC because there was nobody else who would take the job, and then castrated publicly by bringing in a bingo caller and forced to apologize to the start running back. Just my 2 cents. :)

Jack Kent Cooke could be just as miserable a mother ****er as Snyder.

However, the team won, and the slate was cleared.

But, by all means, instead of discussing our newborn season, let's forever talk about the afterbirth of previous ones.

You are very against talking about Snyder's previous mistakes, yet you keep appearing in these threads. Perhaps its like the school kid who tugs on the girl's pigtails because he actually really likes her? Come on, Ax! Just let it out - I know you want to vent. I know it!

Nah Lanky, just trying to steer my Redskin brethren toward the light of today, and away from the dark emptiness of forever living in the past, beating dead horses, and failing to live in the moment.
