Albert Haynesworth has failed every test issued by Mike Shanahan

Not a huge Sally fan, but she nailed it here

Who do you think is going to win the contest of wills between Albert Haynesworth and Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan? The guy who once played a football game with a ruptured kidney and didn't go to the hospital until he filled a sink with vomit three times and urinated bright red blood - or the guy who felt a little faint and headachy and spit up when he got out of the hot tub? The guy with the Super Bowl rings and a record of refusing to put up with malcontents who don't get with the program? Or the guy with the energy and motivation of an aspic, whose most animated feature is his mouth, unless it's those snakes in his head?

Wow, Sally Jenkins with the K.O. I'm not usually a fan of her work either Sarge, but I agree, she got Fat Albert square on the chin with this one.

Also, I had never heard that Shanahan liver story. Yikes! That's one tough SOB!

Glad you posted this Sarge. I read this on the Post this morning, and meant to bring it here, but forgot.

Good read, especially the part about Trevor Pryce. If Al would just buy in, he could have a monster year, though it seems unlikely that will happen.

He'a already saying he's not showing up for camp next year, so I doubt "buy in" is coming anytime soon

Personally, I hope it's not an issue for us

If he's not going to play up to his potential, then I hope he gets the boot. And I hope the danny can fiigure some way to **** him over as far as getting on with other teams as well

people can have a change of heart... hopefully fat albert is smart enough to understand what coach is doing. I'm tired of these mind / media games their playing.

Unfortunately, I think the only way this can end is with the unconditional release of Haynesworth. Someone posted that by skipping the mandatory minicamp, all guaranteed money in the rest of his contract became non-guaranteed, meaning he's signed his own release form, basically. I don't know though - Shanahan almost seems to get pleasure from bending the Haynesworth type to his will, maybe a smug satisfaction?

and all the other clowns on this team not playing up to potential? this is gonna be a double edged sword. this won't affect him getting onto other teams one iota. money is the issue right now. if teams will accept a TO, a Brandon Marshall and Randy Moss...someone will take Haynesworth.

if they want Hayneswrth gone then they should just accept the sunk cost and get it done now.

the bigger problem the Shanahan/Allen team have is the short-term roster management strategy that will very likely backfire 2-3 yrs down the road. sound familiar?

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I don't know how 'short term' some of these moves are, lets look at the offense for example:

McNabb could play another 5 years, plenty of time to draft and groom another QB in the Kyle Shanahan offense. Theoretically, looking at Favre, McNabb could play another 7 years til he's 40 (highly unlikely, but definitely possible).

Torain and Portis are 24 and 28 respectively. Torain hasn't been able to stay healthy, but maybe this year is the year? Fred Taylor had several injury-plagued years in a row for Jacksonville, then played 16 games something like 5 years in a row. Portis has recommitted himself, knowing how it goes with Shanahan at the helm. Keiland Williams is still a wild-card at this point, but has looked pretty good, and will probably end up on the practice squad. Knowing the Shanahan system, who knows? Maybe Williams will have a 1000-yard season in the next couple years? Nobody thought Olandis Gary would end up being much.

You have a point at WR, but then again, we've got some young guys who have yet to step up (Thomas, Kelly - Snyderatto additions), and some young guys making the most of their opportunities (Armstrong, Banks - Shanahan/Allen additions). Cooley and Davis are both young, and essentially are WRs at the TE position. They signed Paulsen & Vickers (29) at TE, who have looked good blocking.

They drafted and traded for a young set of bookend tackles (Brown is 29, in his prime), and drafted a future OT Capers to replace Brown, who from all reports has looked great in the zone-blocking system. A converted TE, he's athletic enough to fit in perfectly. Interior linemen are a mixed bag, but I'm sure we'll see more drafting of those guys in the future. Lichtensteiger, hand-picked by Shanny in Denver, looks to be the eventual replacement for Rabach, and he's only 25.

Anyway, I don't think the outlook is quite as gloomy as you make it out to be. Yes, overall we got a little older, but I can't remember who posted it originally, but we also got better in some spots, and got better in the locker room also. At the same time, Allen and Shanahan shed a lot of veteran dead-weight also. I guess the old-adage, "only time will tell" is the best attitude to have here. A lot of ifs in my stance, but your stance is pretty pessimistic.

Wow, I had no idea about shanahan's kidney as a college QB. I think he's handled Queen Albert's drama fairly well. The only person causing this crap is the queen himself.

... and the media to a degree

i KNOW i am in the minority here but thats the truth. as much as albert is acting like a primadonna shannahan is acting like a dick.

I have no problems with this. You know how it is Mike, you were in the military. When you have someone that has the "My way or the Highway" mentality, they're gonna do what it takes to break you down and rebuild you in their image.

Fat Albert has a choice. He can either play the game, or he can be treated like a bitch

if he is trying to get the 3-4, passed the conditioning test why continue to degrade him?

Because he needs it. A quote from earlier today said that Fat Al was used to playing without practicing. We all know now that Shanny don't play that.

If Fat Al put his pea sized mind to it, he could probably be a friggin superstar

Ever consider that's what Shanny is trying ot get him to see?

But like the conditioning test, this is a win/win for Shanny. If Fat Al keeps being a baby, Shanny can ride his ass all the way out of town at some point. If Fat Al comes along and buys in, then we have a monster on the D-Line.

seriously, shannahan is getting on my last nerve with this crap. why isnt anyone mad that he is telling the media he has "a headache" when clearly it is more than that? everyone seems to think it is all albert doing this but at the same time you have the tanned little guy pushing his buttons, making him look bad and just trying to degrade him as a man.

i KNOW i am in the minority here but thats the truth. as much as albert is acting like a primadonna shannahan is acting like a dick.

That's your rebellious nature Mike. There has to be something to it when nearly everybody, and I mean nearly everybody at this point since his statements the other night, sees this as Albert's fault. You know, the old duck adage?

It is the responsibility of the coach to control his team. Some players need a simple directive, some need to be handled with kid's gloves, then there are those who need to be broken down and built back up. I can tell you that I ran more than anybody else on my team because of the latter. Big Al needs to learn some discipline! Shanahan is handling this correctly. He should not bend.

All that said, you know as well as I do that when the season starts and the Cowpoops are lining up on offense, Tony Romo is going to be staring down the barrel of n angry Al who is ready to prove himself. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him have at least one sack and destroy the interior of Dallas' already suspect line.

Or...he will be traded before the season starts when a defensive tackle with the Colts or Viking goes down before the season starts. Maybe we could send him to the Saints? Gregg Williams would have a field day with Big Al trying to get him to subscribe to that scheme, huh? :rotflmao:

yes, win win for shanny...except youve already paid albert 21 mil this year and he still gets to do what he wants.

If Fat Al had done what he wanted, he would have walked into camp and skipped the fitness test. He would have been starting 1st team D

Instead, he's being treated like the bitch he is

If he wants to be treated like a man, all he has to do is get with the program and play.

It's that simple

huh? my rebellious nature? Because i dont get why people arent criticizing shan as well as albert i am being rebellious?

like i said..i knew i would be in the minority here but i dont think just because my opinion is not like yours that it has to be some nature. it could be that i see things differently.

Not a dig Mike. Just an observation. And yes, you are in the minority on this. Yes, you do see it differently. That's my point, when so many people can see how obvious this man's selfish attitude is the problem, not the coach, I have a hard time understanding how you can put this on Shanahan's shoulders.

Not saying your wrong for how you feel, just I don't understand how you could see it that way. You're going against the grain on this one, much like you have in the past. Again brudda, not a condemnation, just an observation.

yeah, he lost 30 pounds by not trying to get in better shape. you lose me when you say things like "the bitch he is". its obvious you dont like him so any rational conversation with someone who may not see what you do is pointless.

If he was in such good shape, why couldn't he pass the conditioning test?

Cranky:

1) Donovan barely survived Saturday night! 4-5 yrs may be a bit premature.

2) Portis pushes 30 Sep 1. KW doesn't look like a long-term option to me. Doesn't have that second gear.

3) I'm enthused abt the TEs. back in the day on that "other board" I predicted the day after the draft that the real steal in the threesome was gonna be Fred Davis.....:).......as for wideouts. eh. aging. the good news is that it seems the scheme is getting these guys open just the same. now....if they could just hold onto the ball and if Donovan cld connect on the long ball.

4) No idea on the o-line yet. TW is a keeper......but the depth is not what it should be. Let us hope the poor run performance was just an aberration due to B-More playing all out.

not pessimistic. the strategy is what it is. they went for quick turn-around. I would have preferred blowing it up, but I can see why they took the path they did. lot of the new signees need to come thru...other than Donovan...I'm not seeing it. but there is time as you will likely respond....

I mean, I understand wanting to blow up the entire roster - I kind of wanted that also. However, we wouldn't have been close to competitive this year. I think a huge part of buying into a new system is actually winning games, especially with someone abrasive like Shanahan. They are getting younger in areas, and I'd bet they continue that trend with the upcoming draft and we will see some more veterans get the axe.

Long story short, I don't believe its an overnight process with this team...yeah, we could have blown it up and relied on a bunch of UDFAs and draft picks, but we'd have been slaughtered (most likely).

Another angle on the McNabb pick-up that I haven't seen a lot of places, is that a great QB always makes WRs look better. I think he was brought in to aid with the development of Thomas and Kelly (not doing so well as of yet, but I'm holding out hope).

Another possible take on trying to build a quick turn-around for the team. It gives the new regime cred for staying around for several years and squashes any possibility of-dare I mention the possibility?-a return to a FO like we have had for the past decade?
