      REDSKINS-STEELERS GAME NOTES

      • The Washington Redskins fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 38-16, in front of an announced crowd of 79,124 people at FedExField on Monday.
      • The Redskins opened the season on Monday Night Football for the 11th time since the introduction of the broadcast package in 1970.
      • The Redskins opened a season at home for a second straight year, marking the first time the franchise has played consecutive season openers at FedExField since 2010-11.
      • The Redskins opened the season against an AFC opponent for a third straight year for the first time since the formation of conferences following the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Redskins opened against the Houston Texans in 2014 and Miami Dolphins in 2015.
      • Despite the defeat, the Redskins are now 42-33-3 all-time against the Steelers, including a 20-13-3 all-time record at home in the series.
      • Quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 30-of-43 passes for 328 yards.
      • With the effort, Cousins (7,525) moved past Jay Schroeder (7,445) for 11th-most career passing yards in franchise history.
      • The 300-yard passing game was the 13th of Cousins’ career, including postseason play. Cousins is now one 300-yard passing game shy of tying Joe Theismann (14) for second-most in team history.
      • With a third quarter interception on his 21st pass attempt of the game, Cousins snapped a streak of 252 consecutive regular season pass attempts at FedExField without an interception, dating back to Week 1 of the 2015 season. The streak – which extends to 298 consecutive attempts when including postseason play – was the longest streak of consecutive home pass attempts without an interception in team history.
      • The game was Cousins’ first without a passing touchdown since assuming the starting role prior to the 2015 season. His streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass ended at 17, including postseason play, and ranks as the second-longest in team history (23, Sonny Jurgensen).
      • The game was Cousins’ sixth career 30-completion game. No other Redskins quarterback since 1960 has recorded more than three.
      • Wide receiver DeSean Jackson finished the game with six receptions for a team-high 102 yards, a 17.0-yard average. He entered the game averaging 17.7 yards per reception in his career, most among active players with at least 200 career receptions.
      • The 100-yard receiving game was the 28th of Jackson’s career and his eighth as a member of the Redskins.
      • The Redskins held an opponent without a sack for the first time since Week 12 vs. the New York Giants last season.
      • Running back Chris Thompson recorded his first career rushing touchdown on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. It was the fourth total touchdown of Thompson’s career, adding to his three career receiving touchdowns.
      • The Redskins opened the scoring with a 31-yard field goal by kicker Dustin Hopkins. The Redskins were 7-3 in 2015 when scoring first.
      • Hopkins finished the game 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and pushed his streak of consecutive successful field goal attempts in regular season play to seven. The three-field goal performance was the fourth of his career.
      • Cornerback Bashaud Breeland recorded the Redskins’ first interception of the season in the first quarter. The interception was the fifth of his career and his first since Week 6 of the 2015 season.
      • Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan recorded his first sack and forced fumble of the season in the first quarter.
      • The forced fumble was the 18th of Kerrigan’s career since entering the league in 2011, the most of any active player in that timeframe. He is one shy of now-retired defensive back Charles Tillman (19) in forced fumbles since 2011.
      • The sack pushed Kerrigan’s career total to 48.5, already the third-most by a member of the Redskins since the NFL made sacks an official statistic in 1982.
      • Tight end Vernon Davis recorded his first catch as a member of the Redskins in the fourth quarter, gaining 20 yards on a pass from Cousins.
      • Linebacker Mason Foster was credited with a career-high 14 tackles, including two for loss.
      • Cornerback Josh Norman made his Redskins debut and recorded his 11th career game with multiple passes defensed (two).
      • Safety Will Blackmon recorded a 29-yard kickoff return in the third quarter, his first kickoff return since Dec. 11, 2011, as a member of the New York Giants.
      • Wide receiver Jamison Crowder recorded a career-long 17-yard punt return in the third quarter.
      • Wide receiver Pierre Garçon recorded his 100th career regular season start.
      • Wide receiver Josh Doctson and safety Su’a Cravens both made their NFL debuts.
      • Doctson recorded his first NFL catch in the four
